    I can see it already. Someone in Wall St is look at this thinking they can automate their buying and selling of stocks and beat the market, then they'll say they aren't making enough so they'll create a derivatives market in social media futures, then they'll fiddle things slightly to improve it, then when the bubble bursts (again) we'll look back at this and wonder why it happens again and again.

    Both, which is sort of what the whole case was about. Just looking at 5747282 for example, the majority of the claims are for a specified sequence, then look at claim 20:

    20. A method for screening potential cancer therapeutics which comprises: growing a transformed eukaryotic host cell containing an altered BRCA1 gene causing cancer in the presence of a compound suspected of being a cancer therapeutic, growing said transformed eukaryotic host cell in the absence of said compound, determining the rate of growth of said host cell in the presence of said compound and the rate of growth of said host cell in the absence of said compound and comparing the growth rate of said host cells, wherein a slower rate of growth of said host cell in the presence of said compound is indicative of a cancer therapeutic.

    I'm still reading the judgement (156 pages) but the impression I get is that the whole lot is invalid because page 136 onwards says so.

    My experience is that the wheel doesn't lock until the key is actually removed though that may vary between manufacturers.

    Not quite true. You may lose "power assisted" braking and steering but the wheel will still steer the car and the brakes will still work, it will just take a little more effort. Those old enough will remember a time before power assisted steering and braking.

    Reading between the lines I would guess that this "developer" has performed some sort of chip mod or other somesuch modification of his rice rocket and is worried that the firmware update will brick his car much like Apple bricked jailbroken iphones. Thus having performed an out of warranty mod he is worried he will be liable should it go wrong not the dealership.

    Is it a waste of my time to point out that the UK has had a Bill of Rights since 1689 thus predating the American version by some 100 years.

    Not to mention the more recent European Convention on Human Rights which was written in the 1950s by a Brit.

    To infringe claim 1 it would seem that you need at least one electric motor driving one pair of wheels and a second electric motor driving a second pair of wheels. i.e. four wheel drive with two electric motors (plus a third electric motor coupled to the IC engine).

    Not sure (without hunting down that judgement) how given their extensive citing of Toyota products in their spec that they somehow convinced a court to award a win in 2005?
