I don't know why people have such a hard time understanding that Capitalism working means the workers get screwed. it isn't useful to have happy employees.
In a truly free market, employers would treat their employees well so that they don't go work for their competitors.
To have a free market, however, you need some level of regulation. Otherwise, companies will just merge or collude until there are no competitors and then they can do whatever they damn well please.
I used to buy PC Gamer because it came with a whole CD of shareware games (back when I had dialup). Sometimes Steam will have a free weekend for one game, but it would be nice if they could do more things like that.
Do your car keys lock you out of your car after you use them 5 times such that you need to call your dealer during their regular business hours to grant you 5 more accesses into your car? No? I didn't think so.
I think his point was that not all of the people asking for DRM to be removed are trying to pirate games.
Does the software have any applications outside your organization? If so, you may want to at least work out the details so you own the copyrights, even if your company ends up not paying you.
It doesn't mean what you think it means. Please, "ironically" has been massacred enough already. Let's this word rest for a couple of decades, unless you are one of the two people in the world that actually uses it appropriately.
Ironically, by drawing peoples attention to the word without providing them an explanation of how it ought to be used, YA_Python_dev exacerbated the problem and increased his own suffering...
Plus he threw everyone who uses that expression under the bus. Literally.
While texting and driving is illegal in many states, studies show that accidents caused by doing so are higher in states where it's illegal because people who do it hold the phone further away to avoid detection.
Making something illegal does not stop people from doing it.
I like having everything visible in Gnome2, and not having to search for the precise name of what I am looking for. Sometimes I don't know it (e.g. to change the screen resolution, it can be under "Display", "Monitors, or "Screen resolution.") I guess it's the whole Windows 95 style of putting everything into a menu so you don't have to come out of whatever app you're in to find the option you want.
It's funny that most mobile phones now have what's basically the Windows 3.1 interface. The home screen is a bunch of icons for all their apps, and one of those apps is the Control Panel that lets them configure system settings. It works really well for small touchscreens, but with a large screen and a mouse, it's rather annoying (see: Windows 8).
As much as I like the eye candy newer GUIs provide, I miss the old days when you had to be smart to use a computer. Sigh...
Unfortunately, computing is going to be like TV - if you want to maximize profit, you cater to the lowest common denominator. Hopefully Linux will continue to be Team Discovery Channel.
And thanks to our stellar legal system, it's damn-near impossible to go into business without incorporating or getting sued and losing everything you have.
Long term, wages in the US will fall and they'll rise in China until they eventually meet in the middle.
Most of the world lives in deplorable conditions.
There goes everything our (great) grandparents fought for...

Not a bad idea - use the program as justification when you ask for a raise.
Also, if you ever leave the company, you can get them to pay you as a contractor to support it and make a few bucks on the side.

So if you're using your right hand, how to you say 2?
I was trying to be funny by using more cliches. Sorry.

I thought Tor relays were configured to reject P2P packets...

IMHO, Windows 8 looks like it's going to be Vista 2.0.
Bank? Oh, I remember those. People still use them? I've been with credit unions for years.
I don't know how BofA still stays in business...
And if that doesn't work, 2012 is right around the corner.
Beethoven?
When are we going to start requiring congressmen to take basic economics before serving office?

Isn't this what ad companies have been doing for years? I get "related results" all the time in the form of Google Ads.
What are you talking about? I've had an Alex Chiu immortality bracelet for years, and it still works!
I think Louis CK has the right idea.
Maybe there's a patent for encrypting patents.
