If you are wondering why nVidia said 100C was okay it is because manufacturers like HP wanted to make quieter and thinner laptops, which means lower speed fans a smaller heatsinks/vents. Thus a chip that can run very hot without problems is ideal, except that as well as causing the soldering to fail it makes the laptop case so hot it can burn you. In fairness under normal circumstances the cooling system works well enough to prevent injury to the user, but where the heatsinks are small and made up of closely spaced fins they tend to clog up with dust very quickly. Sonys and older Toshibas are terrible for that too, but it is becoming more and more of a general problem with laptops. Naturally dust clogging is not covered by the warranty.
Yup for that reason I'll never buy a laptop with discrete graphics again. Now that I'm out of college, I only use a laptop for work, and have a desktop PC for games.
1. Download a Ubuntu Live CD. 2. Open a terminal and type "sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng" 3. If aircrack-ng installs successfully (you may need to connect an ethernet cable to get an internet connection), type "sudo airmon-ng start wlan0". 4. Type in "sudo airodump-ng mon0" and you'll get a nice list of all the wireless access points in your area (even the hidden ones). Aircrack-ng (and airodump-ng) documentation can be found here.
You can also try NetStumbler, which runs on Windows, but it much less powerful.
A lot of porn producers do use h264. Frankly, not supporting h264 is going to be the end of Firefox, not a reason not to use h264.
The thing most people developing with Flash seem to forget though, is that while 99% of browsers may theoretically support it... it runs like shit on any Mac, it's not available on iPad or iPhone, many business users don't install it in work systems, and many people deliberately don't install it on their home systems.
Probably 90% of people on Slashdot have a computer hooked up to their TV, one way or another. But more mainstream options are still limited to things like AppleTV. Hopefully this Google offering helps make the usability level low enough that the technologically challenges masses will start to get some of the same benefits. Maybe it will hurt the entrenched content providers enough and provide enough of a market that we will be able to purchase shows ala carte at reasonable prices over the internet; without all the middle men taking content providers' money.
I myself have gotten rid of cable TV and am looking for a good solution to download movies and TV, so that I can, um, watch TV on my TV.
I was going to use my Xbox to stream video from my PC, but with the limited format availability, it looks like I'm going to be assembling a media center PC from old parts. Plus that is a cheaper option than purchasing a wireless adapter for my Xbox.
We should follow England's model and have the actual cables be installed by government contracts, and then have the government lease the lines to carriers.
Because then some people might figure out what they're actually agreeing to and stop buying their software?
This will break a lot of corporate intranets.
Yes, we are all trained to think corporations are evil. But have you ever chosen money or convenience over what's best for the environment?
Do you drive a car to work?
Do you buy reusable shopping bags?
Do you throw recyclable materials in the trash?
Do you use air conditioning?
I could go on, but the point is, almost everyone is motivated by cost and convenience.
of the vastness of the reserve and how much oil and natural gas they could get from it since they can collect it now with the cap on it.
And they'll still charge us $3 a gallon for it.
Do old computers use more power than new ones? Power supplies have been increasing their wattage in the last 10-15 years.

So Flash will be the end of Apple!
A lot of web sites used to use WMV instead of flash. It gave me 4% CPU usage and even worked on Linux.
Flash almost always gives me close to 100% CPU usage.
If it aint broke, don't fix it.
1. Find a picture of a hot chick on the internet and make that your Facebook picture.
2. Send out thousands of friend requests.
3. Profit!
Do you think that six months of wait on 1/100th of the Gulf wells will destroy the economy?
It shouldn't, but I'm sure they'll use that as an excuse to jack up the price of gas.
I thought they already did this.
Well, now that's the case, but wait until HTML 5 becomes widespread.

There, fixed that for ya

Ubuntu installs a Bittorrent client by default.
Say hello to:

So, this is proof that religious people aren't using their whole brain then?
It would explain Mac users...
It's just a metaphor.
Why would there be bones in ice cream? It's not made with animal parts.
Yeah I've been using it for years and so far the authorities haven't ...
NO CARRIER
Half an hour in the sun each day is only a "modest exposure?"
Move somewhere where it doesn't snow.
I used to wonder how Slacker made money. Then one day, I got a new job, and went there using my virgin install of Firefox.
I don't know how anyone can use that site without Adblock.
Or Tylenol.
