  1. Documentary? Please. on Michael Moore's New Film Leaked To BitTorrent · · Score: 1

Anyone who thinks that Michael Moore makes documentaries doesn't know the meaning of the word. Just to help some people out, here's the definition of the word: documentary (dk'y-mn't-r) pronunciation adj. 1. Consisting of, concerning, or based on documents. 2. Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.

Moore's films have very little to do with fact and more to do with his personal agenda. A real documentary will use 100% facts, not just pick facts that only support your view and then fill in the holes with opinions.

After all, they aren't the kind of people they want working for them.

Something isn't right with this story and I don't think we know both sides of the story yet. This whole MySpace, Facebook, etc... crowd is probably hurting themselves more by using these services than doing good. I know that my company checks all of the "social networking" sites when someone applies for a job and more times than not, their online profiles cast them in a negative light.

Now before anyone accuses me of being a prude, I've done most things shown on myspace. I had a great time at college(s). There is a time and place to be crazy. When it's time to look for a job it would be best to clean up the online profiles or at least make them private.

I don't know of anyone who will choose buying a CD or movie over paying the electric bills or putting food on the table.

"Our current state of affairs is largely because of our own shady dealings in the middle east. Your question supposes that we are just innocent victims, but if you look at the history, 9/11, or something like it, was long overdue to occur."

I wasn't alive when these "shading dealings" started. Especially since Israel was formed back in the 50s. My question doesn't suggest one way or another that we (as a country) are innocent. I asked how we are supposed to defend ourselves.

"People have died for the right to privacy and the right to freedom, so now we want to give up those rights so we don't have to die? It doesn't work like that and you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking it."

I'm not asking anyone to give up anything. I knew that I was being watched by the government and I knew that before 9/11. Am I concerned that they might misuse the information? Sure. But I also know that there are private companies out there that have just as much info on me as the government does. My rights as an individual go as far as to not infringe on anyone else's rights. So if someone says in a phone conversation that they're going to fly an airliner into a building and then has also taken the necessary steps to prepare for it, I would expect the government to do everything within their power to stop it.

"Millions have fought and died to insure the American idea of basic human freedoms, so to erode them in exchange for safety and comfort is disgusting and cowardly."

Let me preface my next comment by saying that I love this country and all of the freedoms that I take for granted. With that said, I'm not pleased to see certain groups of people slam the government for trying to protect it's citizens. How is a completely open society suppose to protect itself? How can we keep our plans for protecting oursleves a secret when we have people forcing the government to reveal it's plans? This is something that we have yet to find an answer to.

I also find it strange that there are people who blame Bush, Clinton, the cabinet members, FBI, CIA, NSA, and Congress for 9/11 but they won't let these people/agencies try to protect us against future attacks. What happens if there is another attack on our country and we find out later that one of these "questionable spying techniques" would have stopped the attacks and saved lives? Who's to blame then?

These questions need to be out in the open. Why aren't our representatives putting politics aside and trying to come up with a protection plan that most of the country will support?

My experience (in central Iowa) is that the cable companies have been upgrading their systems for the last 5-7 years. They're spending millions and millions to upgrade their own networks. They've obviously been planning on offering new services (cable modems, VOD, more channels, more ppv, hdtv, VOIP, ...) for quite some time.

Why haven't the telecoms be doing the same? Why didn't they push this issue earlier? As far as I can tell, Verizon is the only telco that is really serious about upgrading and using fiber to the doorstep.
