    I'm fairly certain that this is what 'lecture' means--e.g., to 'read', since lector is a reader in Latin, etc. That is, as you point out, kind of the idea behind a lecture. In Spanish, 'lectura' doesn't mean an aural/oral lecture, it's your assigned readings for the class.

    R seems to be pretty much all I need if my company didn't go with proprietary stuff (http://www.r-project.org/). A really great program based on S and S plus with pretty much all the functionality of any commercial software with benefit of huge user community from many fields of science/research. Bonuses for /. crowd: Open-source and Linux based.

    No, Yoda is from the Hebrew "Joda" (J, as we all learned in Indiana Jones ALMOST Last Crusade doesn't exist, so it's really I, which sounds like Y if you say it fast in front of an O... but anyway...). So, Joda is apparently in the lineage of Jesus (yes, I've been bored at church, too). So I guess Lucas wanted Yoda to be the great-grandaddy of Jesus symbolically? Or he saw those huge lists of uncommonly used names, and when short on creativeness... So no,... Yoda isn't Indian, he's Jewish. Or I could just be making crap up.
