I agree with the first part "the main reason people upgrade is for gaming sake" but disagree with your second part "90% of computers are used for gaming" -- most computer sold are used for shitty office work. Every business has computers, and many businesses have a computer for each employee-- even if it is a 'cash register' type computer. Every home does not have a computer, especially in non-upper/middle class areas.
Office computers are generally so poorly equipped that they can't be used to play games (except Solitaire maybe).. integrated graphics cards, bottom quality HD, cheap keyboards, small monitors.. Trust me, I have to use one of these things.
Their product can be downloaded for free and there are dozens of competitors offering the same thing for a lower price (other linux distros). Let's face it-- most linux people don't need tech support-- and that is the only thing Redhat -really- sells.
What happened to that Linux Standarization project (sorry I can't even remember the name)... They were going to have a base distribution which every other distribution would have to be compatible with to be considered part of the standard. I remember Slackware refused to participate and Bruce Perens (I think) got in an argument with the group then I never heard anything about it again. Are they still working on it?? If so, why is it taking so long?? Just wondering, because the longer we wait the more fragmented linux will become and more and more difficult to standardize!
Why should a mage be allowed to use a heavy sword or a fighter magical scrolls?? It doesn't make a lot of sense for them to be able to, does it? What is the point of having classes if they are all the same?
If it is like debian, you have to install the 16 color VGA server if you want to use XFSetup. Also the guy above who thought it was only on freebsd-- that is not true. Xfree is the same on freebsd and linux.
Heh. Clunky and old? Well, clunky is true, but just because it is old doesn't make it bad. Unix is old but still good, so is vi, etc etc. X is bad though. Bloated and obtuse are how I like to describe X. MS Windows is primitive and unstable. MacOS is pretty but crash-prone. Okay, I'll shut up now..
This religion, just like any other, wants as much publicity as they can possibly get, just like the 'Free Tibet' we-want-our-own-theocracy morons.
The more people hear about them the more recruits they will get. It is a shame that Slashdot had to publish this artificial publicity for their organization.
This guy is really running out of ideas. Every time he writes a new book I read it and have less and less respect for him every time. I should have just stopped on Enders Game when I still thought he was a decent writer.
I'm happy for you. However some of us don't care if the source code is available as long as it runs well and is bug free.

I bet he will be begging to get his old Altair back after he sees Windows 98!!!!
More insane delusions by Slashdot reader. Shouldn't you be hiding out in your "compound" cleaning your rifle?
Be realistic PLEASE.
Only if they use public services. Roads, schools, etc.
You were smoking at a gas station???
Can't you just summarize it for us?
Cybersquatters are just as bad as spammers IMO. I'm all for making it illegal.
Can you PLEASE turn off this "Slashdot overload" function??!!
I think the Netwinder has been abandoned by Corel... They sold it to another company as I recall.
How do I turn off this "Slashdot overload" shit?? It won't let me display more than 25 comments even though I have the limits set to 1000!
What do you need strong crypto for??
"obvious sovereignty?" If it is so obvious then why are there so many disagreements about it?

Is Red Hat really worth that much?? I notice Be has sunk to $6
Haha. Yeah, right. Watch Red Hat go bankrupt :)

Hehe.. Yes, Pascal is great for writing BBS door games. I wrote several door games and utilities myself. It was cool.
Congrats! You win the asshole of the year award! I bet you're a real pleasure to work with.
