ouch. that's a massive hole in security. I take it that would require re-write on the server side to prevent execution.

it is not the job of the government to tell a company how to invest it's profit. Unless you re-write the laws to make cable a "utility" you can't govern the way they provide service. The most government can do (and should do) is prevent a company from having a local monopoly. Have Comcast compete with Cox and Verizon and see how fast this type of bullshit goes away.

  3. Re:Comcast sucks Cheney's balls on Comcast Finally Files Suit Against FCC Over Traffic Shaping · · Score: 1

since local stations are owned and operated by large corporations, and since large corporations are governed by media laws, ergo you can't have more then two "ABC" stations in the same market. That would constitute an unfair advantage. It's the reason why broadcast stations have "monopolies" in local markets.

A small change in Limewire should take care of problems like that (for example asking you to select/confirm which folders you share every time you open it up). I don't find the idea that parents who don't know what their kids installed on their computer is an acceptable excuse. If you have a kid, you better know what's installed on that computer... It's called parental responsibility.

I don't see the connection between rocket development, moon exploration, and SALT II. Reagan would still have been a nuclear abolitionist, his meetings with Gorbachev would still have discussed the reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons, maybe even more so if there had ever been nuclear bases in space.

To me it's sad that what seems like a very plausible counterfactual of what would have happend had congress not hamstrung NASA in the late 1960s is now a work of science fiction. Then again, all is not necessarily lost. Maybe something can be salvaged, even if I will not live to see it come to fruition.
