it is not the job of the government to tell a company how to invest it's profit. Unless you re-write the laws to make cable a "utility" you can't govern the way they provide service. The most government can do (and should do) is prevent a company from having a local monopoly. Have Comcast compete with Cox and Verizon and see how fast this type of bullshit goes away.
since local stations are owned and operated by large corporations, and since large corporations are governed by media laws, ergo you can't have more then two "ABC" stations in the same market. That would constitute an unfair advantage. It's the reason why broadcast stations have "monopolies" in local markets.
except that in case of roads, you have a choice. Most times, you don't have much of a choice in terms of internet providers. Break the local monopolies and stuff like that won't happen.
hear hear. what they suggest makes sense (yes, privacy is important, and so is making sure they pictures are used in a manner consistent with the spirit of the event). But spell that out in the EULA don't use a hatchet job to get it done.
A small change in Limewire should take care of problems like that (for example asking you to select/confirm which folders you share every time you open it up). I don't find the idea that parents who don't know what their kids installed on their computer is an acceptable excuse. If you have a kid, you better know what's installed on that computer... It's called parental responsibility.
I don't see the connection between rocket development, moon exploration, and SALT II. Reagan would still have been a nuclear abolitionist, his meetings with Gorbachev would still have discussed the reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons, maybe even more so if there had ever been nuclear bases in space.
To me it's sad that what seems like a very plausible counterfactual of what would have happend had congress not hamstrung NASA in the late 1960s is now a work of science fiction. Then again, all is not necessarily lost. Maybe something can be salvaged, even if I will not live to see it come to fruition.
I would hope we can use it to defend our civilization from both outside and inside attack. Maybe put a few of them in orbit that would suck in the drudgery of the reality shows and entertainment-news talking heads so that no outside civilization will feel the need to demolish the planet to build a hyperspace bypass. Plus, we won't have to listen/watch this crap anymore. A world without Fox/CNN/MSNBC... wow. I can only hope.
Sony was, reportedly, also interested in a deal with Pirate Bay to distribute it's share of Sony-Ericsson over the net. Fortunately, the deal fell through... for now...
for those of us that have not fallen to the Apple Side (yet), any chance we'll get a blackberry app from Amazon soon? And for that matter, what about the Windows Mobile application?
I would like to be able to read books on my BB, especially when on long flights.
"No victim interaction is required, and the attacker is not required to be in the victim's buddy list (under default configuration).
ouch. that's a massive hole in security. I take it that would require re-write on the server side to prevent execution.

"Anonymous Coward" is slang on parts of Slashdot for making really douchey comments. :)
you know what "the Shack" is? it's the place you go to watch "SyFy"
nevermind. it was 150mil stake of non-voting stock. So I guess no board of directors position.
I thought Microsoft had a big stake in Apple (which would assume that someone from MS would be on Apple's board). maybe i'm wrong.
Hey, I do my part. I drive like a jerk at least 40% of the times. The other 60% I drive like a really big jerk. :)
maybe it's just you.
the parent is about as useful a comment as saying "first."
hehe... it seem the Chicoms have mod points :) So they take Mao Candle from you.
here's to needing surgery in multiples of 10mm3. cos if you need 15mm3 removed, you're SOL.

because it assumes that the UK government does not have the technology already, and as such it is both funny and naive :)
where are my damn mod up points when I need them??
"The Internet does not forget, does not forgive and cannot be stopped. Ever." that's why I'm adding the internet to my Fav5.

CWIHP - www.cwihp.org - also has quite a few of the Mitrokhin notes. just click on the link on the front page.

would be a way for the apple software to prevent people from posting "First" comments on any website via the iPhone.

wouldn't methane at -180C be in liquid form? (boiling point is -161C)
