You're giving the free entertainment crowd a lot more credit than they deserve. Is that the natural Slashdottian tendency to believe Europeans can't be stupid, greedy, venal people?
Wait, how is desiring to collect more entertainment than could ever be consumed in a human lifetime without compensating the creators not a form of personal greed?
You can make that argument only if you oversimplify everything to the point of uselessness - at which point you can make just about any argument you want if you're clever enough.
Hoping to somehow achieve environmental stasis is about as good an approach as prayer, so it's nice to see you conflate that in your attempt to be witty.
What I love is that there are people out there who believe you made a good argument.
No, the only problems they seem to cause is that they make it harder for people to just rip something off and give it away when somebody else did the hard work of creating it already - which is actually the exact reason we have patents in the first place.
Oh, I'm supposed to have sympathy for people who got caught taking something they didn't want to pay for... no, sorry. Not even your scare quotes and emotional cues are going to make that happen. The greed of the entertainment collectors doesn't trump the greed of the producers no matter how populist your stance might be.
The truth is, and boy is this a hard one to offer up in mixed company, that Abraham Lincoln fucked this country over permanently by showing that the bounds set by the Constitution were freely ignorable.
Unless you live completed disconnected from society at large, in some way you constantly make rich men richer. This has always been true, everywhere, and likely always will.
Wait why do you get to define the real question? Or all those other words you redefined in that rant? Was being born your entire contribution to this, or have you actually achieved something?
Oh and if you like, take a stab at answering my original question. 10+ years of Slashdot and I've never had that one answered.
Well, no, I don't see the irony. The copying costs were never really the main consideration at any point - they were more the baseline costs.
Maybe you can explain the irony to me.

The most liberal don't have the ability to finance their own lives, never mind subsidize others.

Yeah pretty much everyone thinks everything would be great if everyone just listened to them. Doesn't make you right in any way, though.

Yeah we totally need the European government making decisions for us all...

Why? DRM free digital recordings are widely available for reasonable prices. They seem to have figured out the right way to offer things.

Awww now I miss the the stupid things the government did before 9/11 turned them into wholesale Constitution tramplers.
Hahahahahahahha it's being overrun by tomhudson? One of the oldest accounts here....
Suppose hypothetically you and I were playing chess. Would it be moral for me to use my queen if you voluntarily decided not to?

There's this new thing called "getting another job" that I hear the kids are starting.
The Annihilatrix cost 20 billion.
what if i admitted that i lied about doing that? would that make me a better person, or worse?
Anyone know the cost/weight? Absolute capacity is nice but dammit I'm not getting my trip to moon at these prices.
Maybe. Is there some way I can tell?
Are you basing that on the facts as presented to the judge, or are you merely offering a judgment based on your understanding of a Slashdot summary?
Cause I'm just gonna go ahead and guess you aren't nearly as qualified to render that judgment...
