That is a common mistake caused by all those attorneys who refer to both as "Intellectual Property"
Picture if you will a person creating an HTML page. Picture that they don't really know much about computers, but consider themselves to be "programming" in some way. Is this Tim Berners-Lee's fault for specifying HTML to look, to the lay person, like a programming language?
I'd say any confusion about legal issues is more likely caused by the fact that being a nerd doesn't imply being an attorney, but it does imply acting like you know everything.
I'd like to note that the fact that smartphones mainly run Unix variants isn't really all the relevant in any sense but the pedantic - it's the UI that makes them or breaks them in a very real sense, and there's nothing Unix-specific about that.
In any case, Microsoft certainly isn't sitting around waiting for the desktop to die. They have a new smartphone entrant of their own, and they just released a major new interface paradigm that, while not exactly fully baked yet, shows interesting promise for the future. Counting them out based on a few years of phone sales (a turbulent market if there ever was one) might be a tad premature.
Your argument is built on the implied supposition that you have some sort of right to access the content. Care to explain how you became the recipient of such an entitlement?
Yeah, and there are five people who legitimately want to back up their blu-rays. So what? You know and I know, this is primarily a tool for piracy. Mod me down to oblivion, that changes nothing. I'm not expressing an opinion, just a simple fact.
I'm not the one who has to pretend I'm saving the rights of "The People" or sticking it to "The Man" while I gorge myself on free entertainment.
It's full of opinions masquerading as facts, as well as outright falsehoods. It has now reached +5 Insightful because of the well known Slashdot tendency to mod up anything that bashes Microsoft, no matter how tenuously said bashing is related to the topic. In fact, I suspect that's why you liked it.
Hopefully you're the only person who ever maintains your code. I sure don't have that luxury.
That "major bad PR" would be people who already hate Microsoft hating Microsoft more, if possible. It's probably not really much of a consideration.
Go fuck whichever parent is more decrepit you cunt.
Is that better?
I don't really know of any reason to assume that naivete automatically indicates generosity or goodness.

Clearly you have memories of Slashdot from before its very existence.
If people who thought like you had their way, the text on our black screens could be any color we liked, as long as we liked green.

You definitely had better drugs when you were watching it. The old show has more cheese than a Man Vs Food nacho episode.
This is a totally black and white issue. The US is not subject to censorship by any foreign nation. Period. The reasons don't matter.
That may not be how things are resolved, but the principle is clear.
Where, exactly, did this idea that constant innovation is some sort of ethical requirement come from?
Wouldn't it be logical to say they are still surviving in the evolutionary sense if we're finding their genetic legacy in living people?

It's the poetry of the Slashdot echo chamber. If you listen long enough, you still just hear the same retarded shit over and over.
Yeah, there's another few thousand of you screaming into the Slashdot echo chamber.
If you get loud enough, reality might pay attention to you.
Awww, anyone who doesn't wholeheartedly approve every shitty thing the Jews do is an anti-semite, huh? I like that theory.
"Science" doesn't believe anything. Science isn't a person, and as far as we know, only individual persons are capable of belief.
You clearly don't understand the mind of the gamer. Any time a gamer has to pay for something, it's unethical.
Simple, isn't it? If you still don't understand, I can't help you any further.
Also, in a small way, the boss contributed to the shorter car commute time by not having his car on the road.
The "me first" attitude only ensures that everyone loses.

Not anymore, so you can stop worrying. Your right to free entertainment is now saved by the heroic pirates.
I hear the police have also noticed that all pedophiles require food to survive, so we can add "eating" to the list of suspicious behaviors as well.
The more you know...
No!! The only possible intelligent choice is to lean left hard. Anyone who doesn't agree must be stupid, because if they weren't stupid, they'd agree!
Note my asshole, lingering over your forehead while you sleep. Note that I am stamping your forehead with my asshole.
