What published peer-reviewed studies on the backscatter scanners are you referencing? I'm curious, everything I've seen so far has extrapolated the risks based on other technologies.
One killer feature of Java is that it is extremely amenable to static analysis, and hence tooling. Large team facilitation and automation of various parts of development are two of the major benefits of this.
The other killer feature is the huge library of components available. Much like Perl has CPAN, Java has library support for basically anything you could dream you need.
The platform independence is nice, but in practice that mainly means developers can run their code on Windows workstations and deploy on Unix servers. That accounts for about 75%* of Java use. There are a few uses of Java as a client app, of course, but those are dwarfed by the bespoke corporate server software written in Java.
Go figure, the association of professionals who actually do the work to create things, not just call them obvious once they've been created, support the idea that they should be rewarded for the work.
I'm shocked.

Why do you prefer the memory to be free? Does it make you feel better knowing it's unused? The OS will automatically terminate processes and clear RAM as needed, so doing it manually doesn't have any technical advantages.
You mistake the purpose of amendments, which is to amend (hence the name) the constitution, with one use of the amendments, which is explicitly enumerating certain rights. Arguments like yours, which spring from an apparent misunderstanding combined with a poorly reasoned opinion, serve only to muddy the waters.
No, a fair market is what you're defining. Redefining free to mean "you're free to do as I tell you" is a popular way of trying to package up control (see Richard Stallman et al). Free, however, does not guarantee everyone can do whatever they want and never has.
It's not like the "phone" aspect of the iPhone is all that important to Apple. The iOS aspect is what counts, and they are clearly way ahead of Google in adapting their OS to different market segments. This will remain true as long as Google continues to wait for Apple to come up with something, then copy it, which, let's be honest, is what they've done so far in this space.
Well this is Slashdot. The first mistake is assuming that it should be allowed to be sold at all. Artists are supposed to be forced to create for no compensation so that everyone can enjoy free entertainment.
Did you somehow miss the last decade+ on this site?
Intelligence does not necessarily equate with criminality... not sure how you drew that connection but I guess believing that makes you feel less scummy.
Has all of Slashdot become ignorant as to the definition of monopoly? I swear, you people long for some enemy to rage against. You must all be great fun at parties.
You may have misconstrued my stance - I don't really care if Apple gives things away. I'm not one of those fools who believes everything should be free to satisfy my own twisted sense of entitlement.
And I used Konqueror before Webkit made it irrelevant. It was crap.
My theory? I just took a guess at what the OP meant. Sheesh.
In any case, how the hell did you get from that to the Iraq war to corporations that are too big to fail? Your objection to a proposal for a new political system is that the current one doesn't work?
Basically, I'm convinced that whatever side you're on, opposing you is probably the thinking man's position.
Any one informed person in a consensus would either have convinced everyone to his point of view or deliberately voted against himself, presumably in an informed fashion. It follows from the definition of consensus, which means everyone agrees.
I can't get the link to open, I'm just guessing, but it's pure logic so I think I caught the gist.
Well, all you'll need to do is learn how to predict the future - or dictate that your opinions are the only ones that count.
Somehow I suspect you're fucked, but at least your complaints will be semi-entertaining.
360: games as good as PS3
PS3: games as good as 360
so that basically got Sony... nothing. Third place. A tight third place, but third place nonetheless.
So you spent a month in one city with university students (hardly culinary experts) and you judge an entire country based on that? Genius!
Okay, any references then? You said you've reviewed them and they indicated there are no problems, so what are you referencing, specifically?
Oh so it's only a tiny unnecessary risk caused by unwarranted intrusion. I guess I'll line up for it twice, then.
What published peer-reviewed studies on the backscatter scanners are you referencing? I'm curious, everything I've seen so far has extrapolated the risks based on other technologies.
Only a nerd would interpret lack of interest in social activity as a sign of intelligence.

*I pulled that number from my ass.

On a flight?
Yeah! Only stupid people would like something you don't like, right?

His primary goal is to ensure everyone has the freedom to choose what he wants them to choose.
Idealism leads to funny morals.

Hahaha only on Slashdot would that be considered a troll.
If you don't agree with the superior opinions of the nerds here, you're a sheep being told what to think...

Shhh! Apple doesn't give everything away for free, clearly they are evil and must be stopped!

I don't see a single thing in the parent post that indicates loyalty to the Republican party.
Do you find that "you're either with us or you're against us" presumption to be helpful or harmful?
