To me, the ribbon is an oversized tool taking up too much space, displaying too much information and has been change for change sake.
When it comes to supporting users. The ribbon is seen by many as a drastic change. The people who it took years to get used to the idea of looking in one place for information now need to get used to looking elsewhere.
I like the idea of a customisable toolbar (much like Office 2007+ Quick Access Toolbar) but coupled with Menus. I want less clutter on my screen, not more.
Menus keep relative functions stored in a neat and accessible way until needed. They encourage the learning of keyboard shortcuts through their underlining and display rather than having to rely on pop ups.

LibreOffice and OpenOffice both still seem really heavy. Java probably has something to do with it, but they just aren't nice to use. On top of that the UI starts to get kind of old.. I started using Office 2010 just lately and I have to say I love the Ribbon interface. It keeps useless stuff out of the screen and is fast and pleasant to use. It takes some time to get used to, but once you do there's no going back to the old clumsy interfaces.
I agree with the Heavy and the Java bit - But no, I do not want a ribbon!
I use OO
Customisable toolbars = yes but a ribbon and no menu - No thank you.
Over the months, I have had dozens of these calls. Seriously, I think in June, they would have called my landline more than anyone else.
First when they called they said they were calling from "Windows operating system" and that I had an error on my computer.
Letting them know I didn't use windows, they wouldn't take no for an answer.
Telling them they were not going to catch me with their scam and that there is no company called "Windows Operating system" and besides, I do not have a windows device in my house did not count.
The conversation went downhill. I was accused at being a smug Apple user that did not like Micorsoft (halfright - linux user) but when letting her know I did not use Apple she again assumed I must be on windows and was wondering why I was hampering her efforts at trying to help me.
At one stage she yelled at me for not listening, I yelled back at her for being the thick one not listening.
It is from there that she angrilly told me I was wasting her time and hung up on me.
Most other calls, I just hung up - or told them to go away, and that they weren't going to get me with their scam although there were a few that I let continue for a few minutes. And always the same.
One time they called me:
"Hello I am from....." "Oh not again, Will you stop calling here with your scam" "So you have been called before - well why wont you check the computer?" "Because I know enough not to fall for it" " For what?" "You are tyring to get my information and money" "Who told you that? We are trying to call to help you with problems that have been reported to us on your windows computer" "Which computer? I don't use windows" "You are Mac?" "No" "Well then you are windows and that is the computer"
The people doing the calling, always female, always persistant. I sometime wondered if they even knew that they were a part of a scam given their dilligence in tying to "get" me and their inability to quickly recognise when their attempts were going to be friutless
I don't think that anyone actually wants us to use the internet.
We have always been penalised because of and by it. Expensive and slow by international standards. . . and now this finally passes (it has been on the books for some time)
I would write more, but I am likely to go over my data cap any minute.
"They have a growing fleet of autonomous vehicles that roves the ocean collecting data from a variety of onboard sensors and uploading it to the cloud"
Utilising the natural formation of clouds from the ocean. Collecting it again no doubt when it rains.
Imagine the future where we can all harness this sort of force of nature. I cant wait for the (bit)torrential downloads. Irene will be nothing.
it's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe you say the...if the universe is indeed infinite then how what does that mean? How far is is t...is all the way and then if it stops what's stoppin' it and what's behind what's stoppin' it, so what's the end, you know, is my...question to you....
Do you not remember the concessions made to the current employment law specifically around the Hobbit Filming?. . Or am I rememberising things wrong?
Except if a big player like Warner Brothers makes enough of a stink about it. . Then you just change the law to suit.
Agreed, It is a sad reflection of our cotton-wrapped world that this list constitutes even one persons idea of dangerous toys.
You'll lose an eye
The gender of the person that conducted this study. Because if it was done by a woman - That just negates their results.
Zuma and his cronies haven't looked good for a while. >It's a tragedy.
Onlu a while? I can not recall them ever looking good.
At 33 my laziness was justified in "past my prime", but typical as with everything, the goal posts are moved on me.
Terrified of change – no.

Cookie Monster has been castrated. Cookies are a "sometimes food", and he mostly eats vegetables now.
I thought the show jumped the shark when Snuffleufagus(sp?) was discovered as real but this is worse.
Whats next? Oscar the Grouch starts liking things and keeps clean.
Super Grover no longer flys just incase other children try to imitate such things?
And Elmo is the antithesis of all that was ever good about the show.
Agreed.
What about when they get to E=MC2
Because last time i checked, C is for cookie, thats good enough for me
Now I know many countries have proposed or implemented a 3 strike law (much like my own - NZ) mostly to cosy up to the US.
How cosy does Italy want to be?

Seems to me that Casio just wanted to keep their relationship with M$ cosy whilst utilising the full range of technology available to them.
The subject line read to me that microsft employees were being paid to use Linux.
I was wondering where I could sign up for the same deal.
I was lost on Thomas when they went PC and they started calling "The Fat Controller" "Sir Toppham Hat
Seems to me that work contracted for government departments never ends.
Odd - especially given its name and all.

How long until someone tries the "It was the bacteria that made me do it, so I am not culpable" defence in court?
In scarier thoughts, how long until it works?
it would have all the have everything)
I guess, I should actually read my replies once they are in "preview"
Sorry. That link was not for the right model (I assumed that by being a later model, it would have all the have everything)
This is the model
