One way it may *not* make economic sense is the much higher up-front price premium for a TDI. The TDIs have a 25% - 46% higher purchase price on the tag. Because of the demand, the dealers won't negotiate down the price on a TDI... if you can find one at all.
Sure it'll pay off *eventually*... but it'll take awhile. By the way, don't forget to add the additional interest you'll have to pay for the bigger loan you take out to be able to cover the higher price - a loan that will carry a higher interest rate than the incentive rates you could get on a loan for the non-TDIs.
By the time you add it all up, the cost savings from fuel take quite awhile to match the difference in up-front costs.
Hacks that add functionality I get. I guess I just don't see the point of this hack when you're removing capabilities (all optical drive functions) for very little (if any) real gain. I guess if you never need optical drive access again (have fun with those software installs) then this would be fine... but I don't see it being worth anything... unless you get your jollies from doing it "just because you can" as UnknowingFool said above.
I'm not sure what the point is when you can keep the same desktop footprint with one of the many stackable external drives that have been manufactured with a Mini form factor. There's a list of links on a post here.
It's just that some native English speakers are more confused by some English than those of you who have to work at it. Part of the problem is probably the fact that in common speech, "affect" and "effect" sound pretty much identical in many parts of the U.S. (something like uh-FECT).
When I moved to Missouri a few years ago, I was rather surprised to find that "hoosier" means "redneck" here. I've lived in or visited several other states in the midwest and southwest... but Missouri seems to be the only place that defines "Hoosier" as anything but "a person from Indiana."
The dictionary definitions of fact center around truth - either that which is proven true or is said to be true. The implication when using the word "fact" is that it is something that truly happened or exists. Check the dictionary.
Roget's Thesaurus lists the following as the antonyms (opposites) of "fact": fabrication, lie... which have as one of their synonyms, "falsehood".
So basically... there were no facts included in your post.
Plus there are cities named Cambridge in 9 other U.S. states besides Massachusetts: Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Ohio.
Are Adobe's programming practices the fault of Apple, the OS and the file system?
As an aside, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what is being lost by not being able to have files named file, File, fIle, fiLe, filE, etc... other than quite a bit of confusion. With 255-character name limits, why would one not use file names that are descriptive of the contents or function of the files? Unless of course the names _are_ descriptive and the difference between "file" and "fiLe" is that the second one contains no lowercase L's (but I still think "file-lowercase" and "file-uppercase" would be clearer).
...every newspaper, news broadcast, book publisher and public speaker in the country is being sued for having ever mentioned an entity with a trademarked name.
I agree..if they don't tell you what they believe, you get the fun of trying to figure out why it is they make certain decisions. Makes the puzzle all that much more challenging. Gotta love it.
...I hate when people can only look at surface level things, such as the price of one's outfit, and can't take the time to base opinions on a person's abilities, talents, and work ethic....
...Personally when I'm hiring (as I'm a geek in a high position; that scares you doesn't it) I dock people if they show up in a suite and tie; I assume they are trying too hard to cover up some lack of skills.
To summarize:
You hate when other people judge you and your abilities by how you dress, but it's pretty much a requirement for you to do the same, especially when you're hiring someone else.
I think you can summarize your philosophy in two words: arrogant hypocrisy.
"Many of the features that I use on a regular basis are available to photoshop users only if they buy commercial plugins from third parties."
I'm not intending to be rude, but you replied without answering the question (and I'm kind of curious about what the answer is). What features or other abilities does the GIMP have that are not available in Photoshop without commercial plug-ins? I use Photoshop almost daily for work and/or recreation, but wouldn't mind knowing if there are some things I'm missing by not adding the GIMP to my toolbox as well.
Agreed, it's censorship of what content/merchandise they choose to provide. But the assumption here seems to be that any censorship is inherently wrong...even if a private entity censors what they will and will not sell.
As for the your rights online listing? This has nothing to do with our rights. We still have the right to buy or not to buy at Wal-Mart or elsewhere as we are inclined. But if we say "Wal-Mart has to sell such-and-such"...then there are some rights being infringed upon...but they're not ours, they're Wal-Mart's rights as a private entity to sell or not sell what they wish.
I censor what I watch, listen to and read...but I'm not infringing on anyone's rights. There are just some things I don't want to hear about. Everyone has the right to free speech...just not free guaranteed delivery to every soul on earth.
That's why print adverts often have the "call and quote code ABCX1" - it's to measure not only how many eyeballs see the ad (how many copies of the magazine was sold) but what proportion of those people become customers
There are even more transparent means of tracking as well besides quoting codes. There are companies whose entire business is tracking calls linked to an ad. This is done by setting up phone numbers that are published on only one ad. The phone number terminates at the customer's main line just like any other incoming call. But at the end of each month, they can see how many calls came in on that number and calculate what the ROI was on the ad on which that number appeared. If they have these tracked numbers set up on several ads in different publications, web sites, yellow page directories, TV ads, etc...then they can compare which advertising strategy is working best for them and invest their advertising dollars appropriately.
Cingular/AT&T has what they're calling their "Unity Plans" now. Under any of these plans, calls to other AT&T customers (residential/business, landline/cellular) don't count against your monthly minutes. If you're in AT&T's footprint, the majority of your calls are probably going to be to other AT&T phones anyway...so you're not going to need as many monthly minutes. A 700 minute family plan is $70. Add $5 - $40 for messaging and/or data and I think you've got a pretty good deal.
I had to read that twice to even see there were two different words.
To quote an earlier post, see the Wikipedia entry on "senses".
um... there is no sea between us and Mexico. And if there were, it would make one nice-sized cup of coffee once the beans were spilled.
It's hard, but I've had a few years to learn to deal with it.

No... ud. entiende bien como uno debe usar esas palabras.
effect = efecto [the noun]
affect = afectar [the verb]

Are you just saying that to get us to trust you?
Too bad someone else didn't execute as well as the initial someone planned.

All members donate a hundred bucks a year to it (also a handy way to ensure that there are not too many duplicate accounts)...
I think what you meant to say was:

That wasn't a very nice thing to do on National Grammar Day.

I'm sure we could...probably at the same time we have the discussion without the comparisons to Nixon and Hitler.
