As crufty sounding as this is going to be! Python IS open source! It doesnt have to be like that . If you really really dislike it and think Python is great, hack it and release the changes.. (id use it to if there were no tab rules. Mostly out of boredom tho and I can pick up most any language in a couple of weeks now but.. bleh. hehe.. Never felt proper motivation to make python not get ticky about indentation and such.. but im sure it is a doable hack. And could cause some interest in Python? Yes no? Use the source at any rate..:-)

Come on.. This is not even a solid *anything* just some 'internal memo' believe what you want I am *sure* there are about this many of small things in W2K. yeah and with a binary program your chances of spotting that fun assembler patch are next to NOTHING. At least with source you can see it. Of course I know some people who think binary is just as good as source but we wont talk about there state of mind
I usually see... 16-20 fps difference:-( Mebe I just have a baroke G400. I read benchmarks before I posted this so I was not just rambling and its just not up to par. and I dont *want* a Voodoo because for one I use windows and the G400 is far better for regular 2d displays and In doze on my 19" monitor I can crank the resolution way up and the refresh way up and the voodoo just could not compete.. I like my g400, I just wish there were ZERO gap between the two..:-( JA

Okay now take into consideration the actual size of the *nix desktop gaming market.
Its NOT that big yet people are seriously stressing this stuff.
And the system is not even ready to cope with a full blown Game yet. Even ID Software hacking drivers and other fun things like mad cannot manage the speed of a windows game..:-(
Id play every game I owned and I would buy every game for Linux that was good.
But not until it can compete with that sucky operating system named after a piece of glass.
I dont have a super buff PC and Q3 is playable with my G400 in doze but just a little to slow in Linux. I even bought the Linux port of QuakeIII... Dont put pressure on the markets unless it can compete? Please..... be patient. It takes time to overthrow a giant.

That is unique hits, The site has around 5 times more than that that actually go to it in a day as returns trollers etc. etc. It is real dynamic and database driven ColdFusion + SQl 7.0... *ahem* We have a T3 on sprint and this site pays for 90% of the T3. It has.. hmmn two IIS servers and one Big ass SQL 7.0 Server sitting on it. It is targeted at a very specific audience and it gets more hits than any other site like it. We have some very nice contracts with various products related to the site which nicely pay for it. Perhaps its a bit over priced but not by much if you consider the click-thru rate they get and the number of impressions served. I am not going to provide hard core statistics because that is not my place but I can tell you that web advertising can be pretty lucrative. Oh and Ive tried and tried to get the bosses to convert the site to Php3 (I even could do most of this in like 2 days) Oh well.. I dont much mind reboot the NT servers once every day or so scream at them go through patch hell and a day of downtime every month life goes on.

I have a site that gets just 9-10K hits / year and it pays for the T3 it sits on! Its stupid to screw with editorial content anyways because they lose the one thing they really are gaining from this deal because it will lose many hits and thats losing advertiseing.. Calm down it doesnt matter because you can always choose not to visit/. if it goes to hell in a hand basket which clearly is NOT going to happen:-) If anything this is good for slashdot as a whole becuase I wont get !connect and timeouts.

I think they need a lil spanking and open up specs for things like MS Word (oops.. there went your stranglehold on the market, I know I know it takes more than that.. but with that you can just write superior software and it will show.) and made to play a LITTLE more fairly. But no dont break them up or anything. Microsoft does a LOT of positive things most people never even hear about. MS Backs a LOT of standards, good stuff that really NEEDS to be backed by someone as big as MS so that other companies are pressured to use it and not go proprietary. HELLO! Thats GOOD. Sure it benefits MS but it helps us out a lot.. a Prime example is ANSI XJ12. Certain companies have a STRANGLE hold on Data transfer of Insurance companies data. They use a proprietary format that can differ so much its not even a fucking standard. Its just plain out FURUSTRATING to write systems that span multiple systems and deal with all the fscking different systems out there. Oh did I mention this is all over old 2400 baud modems??? ANSI XJ12 solves all the problems (all net based..woohoo) and MS among other companies sit on its board which pushes things like this through. A lot of companies are bad but Ill take the MS dominated world over the *nix desktop/Sun Piece of shit net terminal world and day.

Everyone seems to think Open Source is some invincible little badge Linux has that can protect it from all of the bad stuff out there? It has a better chance at making it than most models of development. When you go play with the big dogs you are going to get big dog type problems.. It WILL happen and just sit back and watch the world of linux quickly fall away. Then everyone will forget about it and whatever is left will still be here. Just dont think it will not cause some negative changes along with all of the positive.
Just thinking a little about the/. story and the way it was posted. Before someone goes after it.. Meaning that perhaps the poster of this story expects people to attack it and is aware that it currently does not violate any patents and just wishes for everyone to have a chance to have the source before something morally wrong happens and we are depraved of another good project? Ugh.. Linux (unix) Is a server oriented system.. To do dekstop stuff we all know it needs to get easier.. Its awesome at being a server. Nothing needs to change interface wise to make the server aspect any easier to use. Desktop wise a lot of work needs to occur. It should surpass MS in ease of use WITH a GUI if its going to win.. I dont care whatever is better I will use. Hope Linux wins and becomes somewhat easier to do.. I hate hacking a WM config all day. Now.. About the we need only text interfaces for everything. Come on.. Think about that. MOST peoples minds work at a much higher and quicker level of comprehension and speed with VISUAL tools. NOT everyone wants to or CAN or has the time to train there mind to be highly effecient in a text based environment. Many people learn and work more effeciently with a Graphical (windows and purdy stuff) Interface. And anyone who says it should be text only and everyone should like it is missing the point if they ever hope it makes it to the desktop.. but I dont think these people even want *nux on peoples desktops..?? Or do you. Its a very ambigious feeling I feel from the community right now. but people DO need a graphical user interface. Why do you think people use symbols to represent everything? Why do you think the Dell sitting in front of me has a symbol for power HD light and reset and not just numbers 1 2 3 or labels POWER HDD RESET out by them? Your mind can usually memorize a symbol easier. It improves memorization time and comprehension rate drastically.

MIcrosoft has full html support for its documents now.. But they are locking you into proprietary formats and all so dont use it.

I think what makes this theory a lil more exciting is that silicon actually can burn at the proper luminance and length times of a ball lightnin.
