There was a conference once (I don't remember what or where, this is an ancedote from a professor of mine) wherin, the speaker asked "How many of you here would fly in an airplane controlled by software you were on the design team of?"
Everyone just sat there, looking around to see who would be the first to raise their hand. Finally a man near the back raised his hand. The speaker asked him "You feel that confident about your software, do you?"
He replies, "No. I just know that if my company was writing the software, the plane wouldn't even make it out of the terminal"
Well, there is your problem. Anime is not a genre, its a medium.
I agree that most people are too enamored with anything if its animated and from Japan, but thats why we have a dimunitive term for them (otaku, or my favorite 'wasians' -- kinda like wiggers, but... you get my point). In my Japanese language classes there would be those boys who would end their sentences in 'ne' and even the professors would make fun of them. Priceless.
Anime as a medium, though, can help many genres tell their stories. Sci-Fi/Fantasy being the obvious choice, and comical escapades can be helped by exagerated movements or cute little breath clouds (I'm not a huge fan, but it does help).
Frankly, when I watch an anime, my first main though is "Could this have been done better as live action?" If the answer is yes, then the movie isn't worth its weight in beans (not always, but generally).
Well, I wouldn't call myself a die hard anime fan (I can count the number of anime series/movies that I've enjoyed on my hands, with a few fingers to spare) and I really enjoyed Spirited Away.
People seem to confuse anime as a genre when it is really nothing more then a medium. I think that catches a few people off guard, in this movie and in other movies. As for this one, its not an "intelligent" anime, nor is it "goofy" anime. Its a cartoon (made in Japan so people call it an anime) made for children. Its supposed to be a magical fantasy, not a mind blowing epic.
If you went into this movie expecting to watch an anime (as a genre) then you wholly missed the point and I'm not suprised that you didn't like it. The film is animated and from Japan, but that in no way means you should lump it with such pieces as Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, etc.
SHORT FILM: (ANIMATED) THE CHUBBCHUBBS! Eric Armstrong
Ah, yes. The Chubbchubbs. That was perhaps the funniest thing about the Men in Black II feature. If its on the MIB II DVD, it is definitely worth the rental price, just to see The Chubbchubbs!
Ah, two of my favority Lucas Arts games. I know I will probably buy them (maybe even on the release date), but I am skeptical as to how many others will be standing in line to get copies.
No kidding. And not to mention that Safari's tabs are much much better then Camino's (in my opinion).
I have Camino installed on my machine, but did I get it the first day it came out? no. I waited a bit, and on one slow day, I decided to download it and try it out. It didn't wow me enough for me to switch to it (versus v64, one of the leaked versions). If all I had was v60, I probably would have switched back to Camino as my main browser, but since I had a leaked Safari, I stuck with it instead.
Actually a new rc5 client is soon to be released (may already be release by this posting) with AltiVec instructions. There are claims of a 300% speed increase in checking rc5-72 keys.
Everyone I know who uses Macs alot (real computer people, not just people who only use AOL or something like that) have bought 2+ button mice for their Macs, because they are simply superior in usuability.
BS. Real computer users don't care how many buttons they have on their mouse because they use the keyboard almost exclusively.
... Windows wins hands down for GUI file management with any remotely complex directory structures.
This is 100% true in my opinion. I love OS X to death, but you will rarely see me with finder windows open. I *much* prefer just using the command line with open filename

What is so great about it as a genre?

God that man makes me ashamed to be a liberal...
Isn't there a law somewhere that every electronic device that come out has to have Tetris programed into it?
If not, it should be...

From what I've heard about Apple, no, you are not allowed to take your work home with you.
They tend to take industrial espionage very seriously.
Is his company hiring atm?
I dunno, but you can send in your resume here

No kidding, I couldn't stomach the really really bad plots and dialogue of the first 12 episodes.
The next 12 surely redeemed the series for me (and ironically enough, really made me appreciate the first 12 a lot more).
If there is anything I've learned in life, it is this simple fact. Ninjas make everything cooler. Ninjas or pirates. or maybe even Ninja Pirates.
Oh dear god. I wouldn't last through the night.

To my knowledge the digit '1' is not a roman numeral. But I could just be an idiot.
Liteswitch helped make cmd-tab very useful for me.

Yeah, I felt a small victory when my picture was the first to come up on a Google Image Search on my name (Nicholas Hansen).
:)
A few months ago I stopped working for the company that hosted that particular picture, so it doesn't come up anymore, but it was a good few months
I had 1-4, but after about 10 minutes it told me I needed to reboot.
And at some point, you'd probably try to get the two to ... you know ... network
How about how the batter estimate on my laptop counts up while charging, yet the text string says "X until fully charged"?
You do realize thats like comparing an Escort with a BMW.
Yet BMW still sells.
It is probably because you have "--" in your sig, and have the "put a '--' at the begining of every sig" option checked.
Just like me.
My exact thoughts too.
Farkers, unite!
