Reminds me of my plan to reform our failed drug laws, social security, medicare, and the poor treatment of old people:
Let everyone over age 65 grow pot. Hell, most old people like to garden anyway, so why not let them grow a highly profitable cash crop. It lets them generate a decent income stream, so they can buy their own medicines and health care. We'll also find that their grandchildren suddenly have a renewed interest in hanging around them. If we let them control distribution, it also lets the older, wiser folk control the consumption.
Now that I think about it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to let them control alcohol and tobacco as well.
I've been thinking of something like this for a while.. Maybe even support SMS messaging your source, destination and time and let it send you back the best fits.

Well, he got it on with Debbie, and she's a skinny blonde...
Yes, instead of a nice big downpour its more of a continuous misting...
I might as well mention that I was up there a few months ago visiting relatives and kicking around the idea of moving up. Unfortunately it looks like the californiacation has already begun. I couldn't believe the new developments with the giant homes and near-zero lot lines.. ugh..
Still, its pretty nice if you can handle the weather. It just takes the right kind of person.
I've been on both sides of the fence, working as a consultant and as a engineer dealing with outsourced work. Outsourcing can really pay off but you have to follow some simple rules.
1. Generate a clear statement of work that lists everything you want accomplished in unambiguous terms.
2. Generate a comprehensive acceptance test document that exercises all aspects of the product. It should detail testing procedures that can be used by both parties to ensure compliance.
3. Get a good lawyer to draw up a contract that neither screws you or the consultant. The last place I worked, the big boss 'visionary' CTO blew 1.25 million on outsourcing because our contract never actually required them to deliver anything.
4. Maintain good communication and have weekly conference calls between your engineers and theirs.
5. Make damn sure your people know this isn't about replacing their jobs. The consultants may need a lot of advice from your guys unless they already have a good understanding of your industry. Poor attitudes and bitterness can screw up a project beyond repair.
With a clear idea of what needs to be done and what it means to be done, you'll have a much better chance of avoiding problems.
I knew it was too much when I was out driving one day and when I wanted to change lanes I found myself searching for my strafe key... felt kinda weird for a bit... then there were the half-life dreams where I was gordon freeman for a few scary nights.
I get hangover-like headaches every so often when I don't drink enough water(3 liters a day or so). I get nauseated, light sensitive, feel like I'm either freezing or burning up, and generally want to die for about 4-5 hours. I tried cannabis but it only seems to make it worse.
Now I'm not claiming I have a typical migraine, so maybe its better for what most people experience. But aren't migraines caused by overdialated blood vessels in the brain? If so, I would think THC could make it worse, given one of its side-effects is to dialate the blood vessels in your head.
After a 2 1/2 week stint in Japan a few years back, I came to realize that, at least as far as engineers are concerned, the Japanese don't work much harder than Americans. They also had about the same distribution of slackers vs. workaholics.
They did seem to have longer commutes, and they definitely partied harder, but work? Nope.
I *loved* the original metroid series. So when I saw Metroid Prime on the gamecube, I had to have it. While its a pretty nifty game, and still has a lot of the elements of the originals, I felt the controls were cumbersome and distracting. The field of view is horribly narrow, forcing me to spend most of my time running a bit, scanning, running a bit, scanning..
It might work better if I had a mouse for rapid movements, but it doesn't work well with the standard controller.
For those who think `emerge sync && emerge -uD world` will update your system:
Don't forget to update the/etc/make.profile link after an `emerge sync`. The sync will place the new profile in/usr/portage/profiles. From the Gentoo Upgrading Guide:
substitute $arch with your arch # rm/etc/make.profile # ln -s../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/$arch/2004.3/etc/make.profile
No, it sounds like two completely different gods, or maybe a god that changed his mind on how he deals with people.
But at least you've clarified that you have no problem with killing children for making fun of 'god 's messenger'. At least your omnipotent god chose a relatively painless way to die, as opposed to just striking them dead, or even worse, instructing Elijah to teach them in his superior ways.
This is the same god who's all loving, omnipotent, and 'desires all men to be saved'. Yet, narrow is the way that leads to salvation, so I suppose less than 50% of people actually escape the eternal vacation in the lake of fire. But, he keeps the whole game going year after year... Is hell not full yet? Maybe that's the 'fullness of the gentiles' he's waiting for.
For the record, the default compiler for VxWorks/Tornado is GCC. As of 2 years ago, it was an outdated version as well. IIRC, the debugger is basically gdb as well. Sure, its probably got a few custom patches, but its more or less the standard version.
I agree with the parent, having sold my WRS stock long ago. Years ago I remember having an argument with a manager at WRS about embedded linux. He laughed it off, swearing it wasn't going anywhere. Now they've seen the light and are trying to support embedded linux... go figure.
Modifying the URL to go to an arbitrary day is easy. Just modify the YYYYMMDD code in the URL: http://slashdot.org/index.pl?issue=19990722
It would be nice to see the/. editors put together some slash-way-back stories to dig deeper into some of the more popular fads and see where they're at now.
Get a bunch of photoresistors from a electronic supply store and build a small, say 4x4, array of them and experiment with ways to get that into a parallel TTL interface. Hook it up to your parallel port, or maybe even a Cypress USB dev kit which you can program dynamically via the USB firmware loader.
I believe you can also use LEDs as detectors, which would allow you to use an old LED matrix from an LED sign as a nice big array. A small array could also make a nice optical mouse.
Once that's done, then think about an old CMOS chip, or maybe a CCD.
Start small and concentrate on the theory and science, not on making a gigapixel camera. You'll learn more and what you learn will be applicable to modern technology as well.
Funny, I just happened to look them up the other day and found out about the legal mess. Its a really sad situation for everyone involved, and my opinion of all of them is much lower as a result. Its hard to separate the facts when all of the info I can find online is he-said-she-said. More info on the A.T. website and the 'official' band website.
My guess is Jello has gone off the deep end while the rest of the band grew up, got haircuts and just wants to get rich making music. Both of which are a sad endings to a truly great band.

So a 2,000 lb small passenger vehicle wears the road as much as a 5,500 lb expedition? What about Arnold's 6,500 lb Hummer?
I seriously doubt this would make it very far though. This smells like a 'e-mail tax' panic story.
I've got a friend over at NASA who gave me a preview of some of the pictures.
Pretty fascinating if you ask me.

Maybe he is, but I'll second his post. Repercuss away. :)

Flame away.
IIRC, the lead scientist for the ESA in the 80's, Peter Schilling, already had a similar plan drawn up.
Weren't the PII's soldered into a carrier board along with the cache?
Lately I've started going back and viewing the slashdot headlines from 5 years ago. Its really hilarious to go back and see where we've been.

How about using this?
Do you mean PHB's, or was that a jibe at the scripting language?
