What the hell are you talking about?!? India is one of the largest consumers of gold primarily used in local jewelry (https://www.thehindu.com/business/india-gold-demand-seen-rising/article23763376.ece). Its pretty common to see trucks, cars and tuk-tuks blinged out with all sorts of decorations. If anything the iPhone style is too western in its minimalist style. I'm sure the gold phone will sell like hotcakes and if they can have one with 10 colors on one phone that will sell to.
Now you would be correct if Apple were to open a store in an Amish community.
Most homes will be built near the corner of Cambridge and Analytica. The Home Owners Association will demand that none of the houses shall have locks and no windows will have blinds/drapes .
Uber is a taxi service plain and simple. Unless you, the driver and fellow passengers are actually splitting the cost of the trip equally it is not ride sharing....it's hiring a driver to take you somewhere.
We were the fucking vanguard of the galaxy. The Solar System was the place to be. Then some other system comes out with 8 planets. Were we scared? Hell, no. Because we hit back with a little thing called Pluto. That was a honey of a planet with a sweet ass name. But you know what happened next? Shut up, I'm telling you what happened—the bastards downgraded it to a dwarf planet. Now we're standing around with our cocks in our hands, selling 8 planets and a gimp. Gimp or not, suddenly we're the chumps. Well, fuck it. We're going to 12 planets...and a moisture strip.
I've struggled to find the logic as well in that thinking and I realized I was incorrectly using logic to solve an emotional problem. I think the reason they vote against their interests has more to do with pride than any real fear of socialism. By getting government backed healthcare, it's an admission that they aren't succeeding at life and are just like any other welfare recipient. I also suspect that many going on "disability" to collect a monthly check is a way to save face for many people.
Now do you vote for the politician who supports "medical welfare" or the one who is going to shut that down and get people back to work getting insurance through their employer. Through that perspective the decision is more clear.
I suspect the laws were either weakly enforced, not well defined or the fines were so small as to only discourage thinking about it. Airbnb now makes it so much easier to tap into a large market to make a lot of money that those small fines could just become the cost of doing business.
.....for free. Once you charge money for individuals to stay at your home you are in direct violation of zoning laws put in place by the local government voted in place by you and your neighbors. You want to turn your house into a short-term commercial rental, then get the zoning and/or laws changed to allow for that use in a residential zone. Those zoning laws are the same reason why I can't buy the house next to you and on a whim decide to bulldoze it and put up a small factory.
"I mean, should I pay a living wage to the kid down he block to mow my lawn or rake leaves...or baby site my kid, and throw in full blown benefits too?"
I easily pay $25 for the local neighbor kid to cut the lawn which would be considered a living wage for an hour 1/2 worth of work (and cheaper than professional lawn care services). Baby sitters also make good money as well as I recall.
So the answer is yes, you should pay a living wage. No, you don't have to pay for full blown benefits, you're not a company.
While 76,000 vehicles may seem like a lot, compared to other car company assembly lines that's actually quite slow. At full speed with all shifts running an assembly plant can push out more than 1000 vehicles a day. Most of the big car companies usually have upwards of 20 assembly plants around the world. Not all run at that capacity but it gives you some scale. If they can continue to solve some of the supply chain issues and further increase production they should be able to drive the price of the Tesla down or make a bigger profit with some economies of scale.
If that's true that gives me a great idea, we can put a coal plant next to a windmill farm and fire that bad boy up to keep the windmills turning when the wind dies down. Genius!:P
Please stop using the word "-gate" on any story that has some sort of scandal. Watergate was over 40 years ago....LET IT GO! and just use the word scandal.
I agree with you on that is what maintains an individual's investment in the conspiracy theory. I believe also that people are 1st drawn to a conspiracy theory because they are looking for easy answers in a world that is more chaotic than they are comfortable with. It's a belief that an all powerful entity (Illuminati, Government, Aliens, Corporations, etc.) truly is in control of all the bad things in the world and if we just know what they are up to we can solve the evils of the world.
Next you'll tell me the Romans weren't conquered by long black haired brooding types smoking cloves pondering the meaning of it all while bards sing in low guttural tones. How else can you explain the fall of the Roman Empire?;^)
I'm not an educator and I might be naive here but have you gotten in contact with your local colleges and universities where it comes to computer science? Many of your students will likely end up there and those departments should be interested in helping you on a curriculum and focus that can fill in gaps before they arrive.
The title should say:
"IBM Used NYPD Surveillance Footage To Develop Technology That Lets Police Search by Physical Features"
It's one of the "Four Corner" states right next to John, Paul and Ringo. :)

We'll all stop calling them startups, whats next on the to-do list...ah yes, world peace.
If you have stock in Apple I highly recommend selling your stock...because that company has just jump the shark, HA!
In this age I keep reminding myself:
Business is Government
Government is Sports
Sports is Religion
Religion is Business

If more people knew it cost them $5.54 a month just for ESPN there would be a lot more cord cutters.

Who knows if the government checks the list but couldn't hurt.
