Game companies are sitting on a gold mine of old games. People look at their past console experiences through gold coloured glasses. Phantasy Star/Monaco/Fantasy Zone, those were gold for original Master System. Sega, to prevent losing funds on these titles because they are basically abandonware, decides to rerelease them individual. The only extra content is a glorified emulator so that these games are playable on the new hardware. Listen up folks, compalin to Sega, don't purchase these. The amount of revenue Sega is making off of these barely justifies the cost that they are expending on them. Hold out for the Phanasy Collection or the Alex Kidd Collection. Let Sega know that you want your money worth.
The people of Japan most likely used the disk "rewriters" for their given purpose. That is making legal backup copies of their games. They probably didn't proceed to pirate their games all over the net like the Americans.
Windows Update came around in the early days of mass internet adoption. Before that there really wasn't a need for the service as most machines were not connected to the internet.
This isn't news. It came out a while ago that in their pre-Catalyst drivers ATI had heavy optimizations for Quake3 Arena. Fortunately, ATI seems to have turned thigs around. They are releasing quality drivers on a regular schedule. Drivers that run games (including Halflife) at a good clip.
Have you ever hacked into someone else's computer? Have you ever considered it? What would cause you to think of doing this? Would your tools (nmap, etc.) be enough to allow you to do this?
When are we going to see news on Linux games? I know games have been traditionally released for Windows, but I feel that Linux has reached a point where its stability and graphical speed can be a huge advantage over Windows. I have been doing all my gaming in Linux for just over a year now, but I need something a little different now. KMines is starting to get old. Any suggestions?
I do hope you realize, that once you lower yourself to their tactics that you are no better than they are. You probably support the death sentence as well.
I salute your efforts, fine sir. And I know you will read this as you have bookmarked my user page. Please enjoy reading the contents of it, as there have been some particularly good trolls there. And yes, I misspelt ensure on purpose.
Do you people not proofread the submissions around here? Such a glaring gramatical error should not have been allowed to slip through the cracks. If you're afraid of changing what people have written, just state in the submission area that submissions will be checked and changed to insure gramatical correctness.
Slashdot seems to have thrown in more advertising. Trying to pass that off as a "related link" is simply wrong. Anyone wishing to compare prices on computer hardware and software will know where to go anyway.
Slashdot got rich off of the backs of opensource programmers. And now they're trying to make even more money by getting their unsuspecting readers to click on ads that don't look like ads. I think you should boycott slashdot immediately.
Most optical mice out there (at least the Microsoft ones) have more than three buttons, usually five. I don't know about the article poster, but the scroll wheel is a very useful technical advancement.
Slashdot has always been against the use of the term "hacker" for someone that destroys or steals things. Slashdot and the geeks that read this site have seemed to always want to refer to these people as "crackers." A term that has been legitimately used to denigrate white people for ages. And yet here we have Roblimo, one of the slashdot founders advocating the use of the term "hacker" to describe someone who has stolen things, and inspired others to do the same.
Can someone please step forward and once and for all decide the true meaning of these two terms?

First of all, it would prone to heavy abuse. Having a documentation system world editable will lead to the possibility of countless exploits. However, setting up a cvs server where contributors could send documentation, knowing that what they write would be edited may be a better approach. It would work just like OS software projects. One person would be the doc maintainer/editor.
Check your License Agreement before you do anything. This should be common sense. Cable internet providers rely on little configuration text files in the modem to throttle bandwidth and so on. They probably have a section in your license agreement that allows them to upload information to the cable modem. You probably cannot use their service without agreeing to this. Whether or not you own the modem is irrelevant here. You use their service, you play by their rules.
KDE is the most professional (and non-microsoft) looking desktop available for Unix (and Open Source) systems. Gnome, while it may be a nice system if you're an illegal h4x0r, is an ugly looking system. It uses the hideously ugly GTK widget set. God do those things look like arse. While Gnome is only at Version 2, the JDE people have skillfully released 3 different versions of their desktop in less time. All while coming up with a better office app (KOffice), a better groupware implementation (Kroupware), and an Outlook/Evolution killer in KMail. Three cheers to the KDE developpers! You make using Unix fun!
Linux has the most mature sound drivers around. The OSS drivers in the kernel are very mature, and produce a full output with just the right amount of base. Also, all of the software is FREE. How can you beat that? While you may be able to receive support from vendors of Windows Sound Software, Linux has thousands of unsocial geeks with their only wish being to bring others to the cause. If you run into trouble getting your soundcard working, feel free to stop by #debian on irc.openprojects.net. They have always been very helpful to me, even when I wasn't running Debian.
And Palm has always had the largest and most dedicated development communtiy. So in this case I would go with them hands down. PalmOS also has a Graphical User Interface. I (and many others that I know) would much rather use a Graphical User Interface over the Command Line Interface of Linux. Also, PalmOS will run on devices with as little as 512k of ram, Linux would probably be rather sluggish on those devices.
They are paying you to code something for them. You are a contract firm. What you code for them is their property. Would you get to keep your code if you worked for a company? No, the code would belong to them. This company is paying you for the code, and so, when you are done, then the code belongs to them. They lose their monetary investment if you get to keep the code and resell it to their competitors.
I really hate to disagree with this comment. Especially seeing as BeOS was one of the least functional OSes in history. Not since the original Xerox PARK project has there been something as hideously ugly as BeOS. But we are taling fuctionality here. And on a whole, BeOS had more of it than Linux. It supproted a Journaling File System first, it played commercial games sooner, and it was one of the first OSes to have an alternative office suite (Thanks to Gobe Productive for this, I don't say this often, but in this case, Microsoft really messed up, Gobe was great!).
So what I am saying is this: Linux is intrinsically less productive than BeOS, even though BeOS looks liek arse when compared to WIndowsXP.
Not only do they have one of the most stable OS' around in XP, they have a very professional and easy to use GUI. And hey, if you don't like it, there're thousands of themes to download at themexp.org.
Now, the main point for this comment is that I really don't like the GUI offerings for UNIX. MacOSX is childish and unprofessional looking, and KDE is nothing but a copy of the XP UI. Gnome is a hacked together crutch of a DE that cannot decide what it needs for a window manager. Until there are some standards in the UNIX UI field, it will never be a success on the desktop.
Telling your publisher to "stfu imo" is a good way of impressing your fans with your business acumen and knowhow. Idiot.

Has anyone forked thist yet? Since we won't be seeing any further Nullsoft releases, how come no one seems to have started ahcking the source?
Believable.

It looks like you (quit) ATI at the worng time.
in a negative manner?
Have you ever hacked into someone else's computer? Have you ever considered it? What would cause you to think of doing this? Would your tools (nmap, etc.) be enough to allow you to do this?
And if you haven't, why is that the case?
No.

Keep on rocking in the free world!
