Have you considered the possibility that the act of monitoring new media would make it better than the old media? If blogs are turned into blocs of unregulated special interest conglomerates, how different are they from the networks?
Because it takes an email address to start one? I am far more interested in the FTC protecting American Freedoms and Rights with regard to the management of the medium of communications, not whether all communication is "fair and balanced". Yes, it is some form of Net Neutrality that we need to ensure that any little guy will always be able to express his thoughts to the world through use of the Internet. Failure to protect us from that conglomerate is far more important than to protect us from someone saying something nice because they were paid to do so; I can make informed decisions as long as information is free!
The private sector does EVERYTHING better, because it is done voluntarily. They don't force you to make a decision against your will.
WRONG! The private sector does not do things well when it requires massive integration and cooperation among many different groups to make a decent solution. Roads are the easiest example. Could you really imagine privately constructed, maintained and designed roads? One block this way, the next a different way. Would the private police and fire not do their job if you hadn't paid them? Isn't that covered under RICO?
Look, I'm all about free market, but to say everything is better in the private sector is just about as dumb as any other blanket statement (including this one).
I don't know if this is a very accurate site, but I think I have used it before. Check out the stats on income and house prices... it's insane! City-Data for Montana City
Well, considering the city has a population of about 2200, they are all probably each others friend on facebook anyways. Small towns like that... you already know everyones business.
Actually if you are in power of a small kingdom, what better way to expand your power than spearheading a campaign to eliminate all other small power and rule as the supreme overlord.
WTF? The trolls are openly signing up for accounts now? Just had to make us use 2 mod points to get you down to -1, huh? 999 internet points to the guy that writes a screen scraper to auto mod down the trolls (linuxisashittyos).
You got a point there, AC. IF this were US based, they might be able to prosecute the hackers for murder. We were able to prosecute some lady for hacking when she harassed a little girl to the point of suicide.
I always took those at home IQ test and always scored about 99 percentile on those. I just wanted to see if I truly was in the top 2%. I have, as many other members, never attended any function. If it were not for the MENSA Bulletin, and the chat groups I might not renew. But MENSA also does some good for the community. And in this age of smart!=cool, I think just supporting a group of people not afraid to "own" their intelligence is nice.
This is a good idea, but it won't save any money, this year at least. Now you have to undergo a major project to source ebooks that are suitable, find the proper distribution method, ensure all schools have the technical capability to allow every student to access these books (at the same time no less - so no sharing computers/internet connections). Teachers might all be teaching out of new books, with new errata, and a new "feel". There are a ton of things to think about.
I like the idea, but the thought that this will be a money saver in the short term is, well, short sighted.
MENSA requires an IQ in the top 2%. I am a member, and trust me, that does not make a genius. A true "genius" would probably be in the Triple Nine club (99.9 percentile). But many people in either of these, are as regular as you and I, as dumb as your neighbor that never picks up his garbage cans, or as crazy as the cat lady down the street. Intelligence has pretty much zero affect on a person's successes or happiness. In fact I made a chart about it. I make a lot of charts.
They had a prime time commercial where I live. I saw it, and I could tell it was going to be a bing advert so I paid attention. So my wife paid attention too, and the first thing she said after the commercials was... "Biiiiing". So it was catchy and probably stuck in her head (buy my years of "just use google" still remains).
Yahoo might be worried, but I don't think Google cares... at this point it's a race for second place.
I'll second your argument, and I could be considered an MS fanboy by this crowd's standard. But there is no reason to have an ATM running windows, the most used, most exploited OS on something like an ATM. I wouldn't even use Linux, but probably recommend a custom OS, as you can control the hardware used. Then the attackers have to hack some pretty much unknown system, that can easily be built from the ground up to use software and hardware security measures.
But only because I am sure it would look pretty bad ass on my resume. I am sure with that on there I would be able to get a job somewhere, pretty much forever.
When they all get together to talk about "price fixing" and how they can collectively control the market - it might as well be a monopoly. Look up collusion.
Hopefully your NP is using TechSoup for IT needs. Check it out and see if there is a CRM app on there. You will get it for less than pennies on the dollar. techsoup.org
As far as the "US has never done anything bad with domain names" thing that is bull. The current system basically gives any company with enough money any domain they want
Please tell me how it should work? Should we allocate names based on who the govt _thinks_ should have them? You want a name, register it. Already taken, buy it. Don't have the cash, get a different one. Honestly how is this broken? What moral superiority is going to look at each name and decide who gets it, fairly? What about nissan.com? Does the guy with the last name Nissan get the domain because he got it on a first come first served basis (and he has a reason to want to and rightfully own a trademarked name)? Or should someone step in and give the thing to the big multinational corporation, because that would be "fair"?

Actually I consider myself a libertarian; I just also happen to be a realist.
Oh, I see. A city in Montana... not Montana City. And the first word in the summary should have cleared that up.

Maybe my bank access info?
Keys to my house?
Maybe a beaver shot of my wife?
No. No. Yes, please.
Ewwww, look at you! All trying to live up this "NEWS for Nerds". It's Friday, dammit, let us have our Gossip for Nerds!
Actually if you are in power of a small kingdom, what better way to expand your power than spearheading a campaign to eliminate all other small power and rule as the supreme overlord.
I for one welcome our pink, floating overlord.

can't you just turn the computer upside down and shake it till the button is visible?
Won't that erase the image on the screen!?!? That's what it did on my first laptop.

Or a database... or about anything else where you can structure data, work on the structure or work on the data.
If you post a troll comment to an article tagged troll, do you get insightful mods?
In Soviet Russia, article trolls you!

Please enlighten us to a better system?
I don't want to make excuses for telcos, but do you mean the Japan that is half the size of Texas?
