  1. It's the "we change anything in this contract" on TELUS Forcing Customers Off Unlimited Plans · · Score: 5, Insightful

You agree that, to maintain or improve the service, or for other business reasons, TELUS can in its sole discretion, suspend, restrict, modify or terminate all or any part of the service or make changes to the network and other facilities without notice to you.

And that is why "agreements" like this are worthless. They should just say "Here's what you are required to do... we can do as we damn well please." But honestly, is there any point in signing a contract when one party retains all rights to completely change the contract without allowing you the ability to opt-out of the contract? Is this even legal? Probably... can we change it?

I am not real big on "consumer protections" but this type of stuff just seems ridiculous. At some point we have to realize that cell phones and internet access are pretty much not a privilege any more. All of us should have access to these shared resources (the tubes).

IT WORKS PEOPLE. I did exactly that (but since I didn't want to mess with sending voice, I just used the XP fax utility). Setup my GF's laptop next to the phone and plugged in the modem (first time in AGES). Every 15 minutes the scheduled task fired a "fax" to the annoying company. After they called multiple times each day for weeks, they quit calling me the day I implemented Marketing Faxor(TM).

ps. Can't remember if I used a vbscript - probably, I use it for most everything on windows. But if the fax util accepts command line args, you might be able to avoid the vbscript. And I am sure there is a way to do it in Linux... someone else chime in with that info.

I hear this quite a bit on the internet. It seems people that work in large environments don't realize how many people work with small computer networks. Half of the US work force works for a company with under 500 employees. You can check that here Census info. Since there are more small companies, and fewer large companies, there is a higher percentage of the total small/medium (under 500) workers that will be in a decision making position. It is also very likely that these smaller companies are the kind of business that can have all their systems shut down for a weekend a couple times a year.

My anectodal evedence is that I current provide IT services for 3 places. All in that under 500. 1 is 24/6, the others are M-F 8-8. However, they are all manufacturers in some way. So that may also have something to do with it.

So if you count the whole country... not the same (too big a change in pop). If you don't count barely inhabited regions, the country is about 1/10 the size of the US. None of this is scientific, but I don't think US to Canada comparisons (for this purpose) are worth even mentioning.
