Google created this call for submissions to engage Google users and the global community in a discussion about
how to change the world. Participants are invited to submit proposals about how best to improve our world in a variety of
key areas. Users are asked to vote on their favorite proposal. The most popular ideas will be put before a panel of experts
to be considered for implementation by Google.
1. Participation: Google will post instructions, restrictions and guidelines for this call for submissions on the Project
10100 website. You agree to adhere to these materials. Google reserves the right to reject your proposal or terminate your
participation should you not adhere to these materials or the Terms. Google will email you if your idea is chosen as a finalist.
2. Intellectual property rights: You warrant and represent that any content you submit is your original creation and does
not infringe any third party rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, privacy, and
publicity, and that the content is not otherwise illegal or made or submitted in violation of any contractual obligation
you might have with a third party.
As between you and Google, you retain ownership of any intellectual and industrial property rights (including moral rights)
you have in and to your submission.
As a condition of participation, you grant Google, its subsidiaries, agents and partner companies, a perpetual, irrevocable,
worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, distribute, publicly perform,
create a derivative work from, and publicly display your submission and the proposal provided therein (1) for the purposes
of allowing Google, the advisory panel and users to evaluate your idea for purposes of the call for submissions, (2) in connection
with advertising and promotion via communication to the public or other groups, including, but not limited to, the right
to make screenshots, animations and video clips available for promotional purposes and (3) for the purposes of putting your
submitted proposal into effect.
You agree that Google has final authority regarding this call for submission and the selection of the ideas to be considered
for implementation. You acknowledge that your submission might be similar to ideas submitted by other participants and/or
proposals independently developed by Google, and that Google does not need to recognize your submission should your idea
not be the source of the proposal or proposals ultimately implemented. You further acknowledge that even if your proposal
is selected by Google, Google is not compelled to implement your proposal in its entirety, or at all. Google reserves the
right in its sole discretion to incorporate your proposal or any other ideas into the project or projects finally selected
for implementation
3. Privacy: You agree that personal data you disclose as part of this call for submissions, including name, phone number,
and email address, may be processed, stored, shared and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the call
Ever taken a math class... generally you can't skip the first half (fundamentals) and pass the second half (more advanced stuff). And while that might not motivate students to "be your best!", if the student is smart enough to pull that off... well I guess being smart does have benefits!
"And she said one teacher she knows already worries about how awkward it will look when a student correctly answers three of 10 questions on a math quiz -- and gets a 50 percent."
That's just preparation to work in the American financial sector.
BTW, a decent idle story??? Idle still sucks and quote tag doesn't work???
Take it one step higher. Burger King and McD's both have a business license in your city to sell the same product right? What if NYC decided to facilitate better controls over the meat industry to prevent mad-cow disease? In the process they denied Burger King's business licenses because it provides the same functionality, but only increases the amount of work on their part. Neither of our analogies are any good, BTW.
ipods don't have mindshare? People don't know they are made by apple? Seriously, the thought that the average user doesn't know there is another OS is crap. they may not know linux, but they know about apple/mac.
Awesome new business idea for someone out there. Now you need to pay $30 before buying a used computer to see if it was in any "air economizers" before the jerks sold it. Nobody wants a computer that's been beat to crap for 3-5 years.
So true! Anyone with a background in unairconditioned manufacturing plants can tell you that new computers do just fine in rough conditions, but after a few years you will get power supply failure rates out the ass! Give them DC power inputs, standardized, please (but you KNOW intel won't do that - they don't even use standardized front panel connectors) and you might see the failure rate reduced even further.
You must be new here. There are no small guys... especially on/. We all run data centers with 3000 servers and program on apps with 10+ million LOC. We also all built something better than a 3d solar cell in the 5th grade.
I also, thankfully, have not had my beliefs tested at any extreme level (Child with downs syndrome, or due to rape, or had a loved one murdered and the suspect caught). I am very thankful for that. So while I do not know if I'm strong enough to hold to my convictions, I hope that I never have to face them, but if I do, that I remain true to my beliefs.
Exactly. You haven't been tested, and even you, a seemingly (in words, if nothing else) staunch pro-lifer, can't be sure that when ACTUALLY faced with such a decision that you would stand by what you are attempting to force upon others. That is, if you are one who thinks it should be illegal. You might just have an opinion, and are fine with letting others do what they want - in which case, I love you - but my past experience with pro-lifers leads me to believe you would like to see it outlawed.
Trust me, there are VERY FEW people that really want to take/prevent a life, but when you have to actually make a decision that will affect many lives other than just that one, you begin to understand the other side of the debate.
That is called profiling, and it has been proven to be an effective tool to whittle down the possibilities of who did, or might commit a specific crime. Cops use it daily.
You can argue the right/wrong of profiling, but it doesn't really erode down to racism.
Anecdotal: When I was 16 we were going to egg somebody's house and car. We went to the store and tried to buy 6 dozen eggs - they called the cops. Good thing too, because we would have done it. Now should that same action have occurred if Granny went to buy 6 dozen eggs... or was she just making a bunch of cake?
I don't agree that racial bias is a natural part of anything. If you dropped two people without any knowledge of how the world currently works in a room together and let them do whatever it is they're going to do, the last thing on their minds would be their skin color.
That might be true, but we weren't just dropped here, now were we? We have thousands of years of history, good and bad, and we have evolved highly complex societies.
What the OP was perhaps trying to say is that it is 100% human nature to help out your "own kind", whatever that might be. Short people stick up for other short people. Americans stick up for Americans. Christians stick up for Christians. Atheist stick up for Atheist. This goes all the way down to family and friends. It is no doubt that color/nationality/ethnicity would be a natural extension of this desire to help those like you.
Everyone I know has been talking about it (those i talk politics with). Here's how I see it (in bad formatting)
--- her message -- reality ---
change in wash -- ethics probe
abstinance only -- pregnant kid
family values -- DUI
more change -- pork barrel
If you want informative, you search the web. If you want to learn about new products and get teasers, you watch TV commercials. Informative ads suck. Nobody wants to sit through the reading of a white paper. Also they are also currently running the mojave ads, which are a little more informative. And really, where is the informative mac ad?
I hear ya on the fanboy comment, but I think google really was a revolutionary company. Were they saviours? Nah, but they did make the geek's life easier. And, they made the non-geek's life even easier, which in turn made the geek's life easier. I really don't use any of their services (gmail is my junk mail), but they are head and shoulders above the rest as far as searching and for that they deserve much credit. As for treatment of employees, I am pretty sure I would accept a position at google if they offered, wouldn't you?
Well, what other term should I use? Since I recently moved to consulting, I don't own them and I don't work for the companies that do. And I don't change the toner, peon employees like you do that. Anyways, you're still a douchebag.
Right... because the "weather computer models" that the local weather man uses are SOOOOOO acurate that they can't tell me if it will really rain this weekend (it's thursday). I can only imagine how horrible your "climate computer models" are at extrapolating that out a few thousand years.
Yearly changes are meaningless when talking about long range trends.
Then I guess this single day occourance (even if it took a few years to accomplish) is meaningless? Seriously, you just proved my point.
Bullshit. Companies are a group of people working together to get things done and make a profit. If I have to hire every moron becuase there is a scientific reason why they are a moron we are all in trouble. I read "what to expect when your expecting" for obvious reasons... the author says something about how pregnant women face discrimination when employers wonder "will she be able to perform" or "will she come back after". She said that was wrong. But 2 pages later she talks about how if you can't handle all your responsibilities, just ask for help from others. And she makes it seem like you very well will not be as productive at work (she even says not to volunteer for things). So bitch about how it isn't fair, but then give me all the reasons why I SHOULD feel that way. IF YOU SUCK AT SOMETHING, YOU DON"T HAVE A "RIGHT" TO DO IT!!!!!! Especially just because science can explain it. Damn you, I lost a mod point for this!
agreed. I currently am in charge of about 60 printers. Mostly HP. Ranging from LaserJet 1xxx up to 4350. We still have several 2100's running strong at almost 200,000 pages.
But about the worst printer ever was a few HP multifunctions. I also hate HP computers, drivers, software, and their website. If it were not for quality printers I wouldn't ever buy an HP anything. I also feel their quality has gone down, but for the price I can't find a better product.
I just now realized that my second para pretty much makes me sure I don't want HP trying to take the lead for linux adoption.
Don't know about the word processor, but we have several wang computers left. We don't want to trash'em, but nobody is really interested in buying them (much less paying shipping). And I am sure that someone who was a wang expert (I hear you chuckling) could get our stuff up and running - it was about 8 years ago.
You must be new here.
Everyone knows the articles are crap... the discussion that follows is what makes this site worth visiting.

100/2 = 45?
Of course you are for this, you just got your first 0% score.

"The Fiesta ECOnetic runs on diesel."
Down here in the south about half of the F-250's are diesel powered. The only difference is they only get 18 mpg.

Not that hectares is much better. Why not use furlongs... or dog miles (that's 1/7th of a mile)?
This must be obscure measurements day.
That is the perfect example of "what the market will bear". Thanks.
