Though I've always wondered how even the most pro-piracy people could claim 'slew of inferior games' is a justification to pirate...if it sucks, wouldn't you/not/ want to waste time playing it?
Assuming there is no option to try before you buy, I guess the piracy has already occurred as a precaution, prior to discovering aforementioned suckage. Money saved.
That is the justification. Obviously, the bit where they realise the game is good and still don't actually buy it (in most cases, I'd imagine) is the actual contradiction to the idea.
Playing Duke Nukem Forever @ 1900x1200 through the Fusion Render Cloud, occasionally reloading the latest results of the (fully operational)Super Hadron Collider on my Nintendo VR Goggles powered by a free energy device producing negative infinity carbon emissions.
But I thought that article trivialised the whole affair and offered very little evidence for the point, bar a spectacularly presented pie chart. One publisher made money from a game. Not quite the smoking gun.
One thing that is true is that there is a lot of respect and word of mouth thrown the way of a good game with native linux client. That would of course diminish if there weren't so few quality games supporting it, of course.
I also find myself wondering whether this game Lugaru is an opengl game, keeping migration costs down.
I notice on that website their counter for ipv4 addresses still available is far different to that of the one mentioned in TFA. 560 million. Maybe it's just a cheesy flash counter and not based on any facts but it is extremely inaccurate, if so.
Sony's payback comes when Playstation3 programmers learn to fully utilize the Cell architecture.
That statement is fast becoming another hallowed urban myth of gaming.
Techspecs aside, do you really believe the hype when absolutely nothing has come out on ps3 that blows the 360's capabilities away? Haven't they had enough time? Where is the practical proof? Folding at home performance? Not really applicable.
Not to mention the fact that no developer making cross platform games is going to go very much further on a ps3 version. There's just simply no point.
I've long thought that MMOs should try to haul in players outside of the actual game engine. Example, WoW: why do I have to spend 30 minutes in game repairing armor, checking mail, checking auction house prices or guild messages? Why can't I do that through some web browser interface?
Because you'll pay a subscription fee regardless of whether the mechanic to do as you wish you could exists. That type of feature wouldn't overly attract new players, it would simply appease the customer base.
Not to mention the fact that the mechanics of such a service would probably be somewhat difficult to achieve in real time and with impossibly flawless functionality (as the wow userbase demand).
WoW64 (Windows-on-Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows operating system that is capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows -- including Windows 2000 Limited Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, IA-64 and x64 versions of Windows Server 2003 and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
If that works as well as it is touted to, why did they bother releasing a 32 bit Vista? That's the problem. It's an admission of guilt.
I hear what you're saying, I'm not saying that there aren't hard decisions/resolutions to be made but right now I don't read a strategy at all. Just a neglected OS (due to commercial viability) that is there if you want it. If all windows 7 versions were 64 bit and 32 bit capable (ie, together) then manufacturers could start picking and choosing whether they put out a 64 bit client. Think about what they are doing having separate OS's for this. Failing to usher in change.
All the while, applications and the OS eat more ram and anybody who uses professional software that relies on a lot of ram (multimedia people and so forth) are more stifled than ever.
My guess is that much as I dislike Apple, they will have a much more smooth transition.
Rather than wasting our time with a new GUI, I'd like to see Microsoft get the ball rolling on full, proper migration to 64 bit. Perhaps I'm a "power user" but for a sound designer, this 2 gig limit per app/~3.5 max feels more and more like 640 kb all over again.
(Unfortunately, the existence/popularity of 32 bit windows precludes the vendors of software such as Cubase and the likes from actually doing a proper job of putting out 64 bit software).
I don't know if the LHC should be accounted for this year, but if it missed the list, something is not right.
If you start accounting for technology conceived prior to this year, you'll open a black hole in that article that not even light can escape.
(Plus there have been other colliders, smaller, perhaps, but isn't this more of an engineering marvel?)
Solar powered laptops, is something I had been waiting for. Maybe I am day dreaming, but the back of LCD panel could be fully covered with Solar Cells and trickle charge the battery, which might run my laptop for 5-6 hours before needing recharge. I guess solar cells have not become that efficient yet, but, is anybody trying it?
*Yawn* Call me when there is a shade powered laptop
2. Ad revenue. Top 10's are almost always viral marketing. There's always a few WTF? entries. Those are the ones that the whole article is built around to sock-puppet promote.
No kidding. It isn't as if people don't love it, either. You go to the digg frontpage and there always seems to be atleast one half baked list holding strong.
I would categorise any white person who leaves their children in their car whilst they shop as white trash so you know.. maybe not racist.. perhaps just helpfully specific.

This game is so awesome, you'll kill anybody who takes it away from you!
(It's that good).

Twice as heavy! Talk about getting it wrong.
It's only a matter of time before the earth's age is readjusted to 6000 years!
Congratulations to Nielsen on their fully accurate statistical analysis. Particularly obtaining data for predominantly offline consoles.

The new company, "Yrtnesaidem Inc" will be much better.

Bummer, I didn't win. I guess the winner actually gets a link.

No... you work for braaaiiinnnss
You mean likeWOW64?

Think of the children!
Can't. The judge says I've got to atleast think at a barely legal capacity.
I am not familiar with the community at Technocrat or the site itself for that matter. Anyone care to elaborate?
There has been some talk of scripting a live action Jar Jar Binks movie on there.
Sure, but maybe we can answer who watches the NotWatchingButCasuallyObserving(men).
.. but perhaps it should be made clear that the guy being interviewed has no knowledge at all of what happened to TR (nor does he claim this).

White trash have been incubating their kids and dogs in sealed cars in parking lots around the world for years.
Duly noted.
