My biggest problem with outsourcing is that it is the product of a system which is skewed in favour of corporates, and screws the little guy. The problem as I see it is that one of the reasons why wage costs are so high in developed nations is because our cost of living is equally high. And one of the reasons for the cost of living being so high is because people cost too much to hire. But the problem we are getting now is that companies don't want to hire expensive people so they outsource. But the prices don't go down to reflect this. So as a labour force we still can't compete because our cost of living remains too high.

If you can derive lossy or exact duplicates of it, then you should be allowed to, as the essence of what you have got is the same. although not limited to china just invading tawain, I recently finished reading Dragon Fire by Humphrey Hawksley, which puts forward a scenario in which a surgical strike is carried out against taiwanese leadership when they attempt to declare independence. The background of it is the power struggle between india and china to become the dominant nation in asia, with tibet and kashmir both involved.

Something that came out of it which I thought was interesting was the question of will. There is a difference between saying that the US would respond to any attack by China on Taiwan, and actually carrying out that response. If China demonstrate a willingness to use nuclear weapons by firing on, say, Delhi, then how willing is the US going to be to risk an attack on a US city just because a few strategically placed missiles have been launched against Taiwan?

Anyway, I am by no means an expert on any of this, but the book is definitely well worth checking out

in the meantime Peter Jackson has to live in the real world, and satisfy the various people who have a financial interest in making the movies, rather than an artistic one. Frankly I think that a superb job has been done of balancing what are often quite conflicting points of view - almost certainly due to the strength of the original source material, and the strength of Peter Jackson's (and that of his team) vision.

Frankly I think there are far more worrying things in the diebold case than someone having a (slightly warped?) sense of humour in the company.

Dead people is dead people, and frankly it sucks (I am not trying to lessen the scale of the tragedy, merely pointing out that innocents being killed is all in the same ball park)

Second, I am curious to know wtf pampered teenagers have to do with anything? If your implication is that I am a pampered teenager, fraid you are a few years too late ...

Also is it sacrificing their lives for the ideals of freedom, or sacrificing them to save the lives of others. (ie if you are refering to the sacrifice made by those passengers, then I would argue it was more the latter). In case you were wondering what the difference was:

    - The ideals of freedom are subjective, and to a certain extent are based on the ideals of the society which you are brought up in. Personally speaking I don't necessarily agree with the all the ideals of the society I have been brought up, in spite of it being considered one of the more free, but I have work to do, so I am not going to go into that now.
    - sacrificing your life for others is a moral decision, one which I like to think I would be willing to do , but will not until (if) I am put in that situation.
