    Isn't redundance key to fault tolerance. Even if parts of the DNA were broken and reinserted, you increase chances of it being the good stuff instead of random junk

    Good deduction. However this works for the first wave of communicators (that is, the ones that have not held conversation/correspondence before and their first experience is the email/cell communication).

    This fails to explain why someone from the "old" world would appear stupid when seen in conjunction with a cell phone.

    Lawmakers are at the end of the adoption curve (as they should be). The early stages are for innovators, followed by early adopters, the masses and then lagging behind them, the lawmakers.

    If you believe that lawmakers should get involved in nebulous areas or at least have a strategy for handling them, then *tell* them. And get your peers/voter populace to think along these lines. I take your post along these lines.

    Looks to me the authors could have been named in alphabetical order.

    The article on Yahoo does convey that S did most of the work and was involved with J and K when in Columbia.

    Probably he is closely involved in getting the news to the world ... anybody have other insight (the counterpane page is also mum about the actual contributions to the paper)

    still a must-read for anyone who is interested in CS and/or art and/or music.

    I would not go as far as that. It is a must read for any interested in CS and/OR cognitive research/science.

    At least that is what DRH says he aimed for in the preface to the 20th anniversary edition.
