Vista isn't even as good as it's prior OS yet. WTF R U ON? I am no Linux guru (though I have used Knopix, red hat, and have used VI on a few occasions) but if you look at Benchmarks both real world & synthetic, XP is the top performer overall.
It's not like XP is DOS or something
Application support? XP is still on top. Server performance? Maybe not... but you get the idea. The "Average Joe" (not the dodgeball team) won't be running servers anytime soon.
When it comes to UI, sure maybe vista is better. It does some neat things that XP could use. The GUI is supposed to work better for High DPI monitors (like my 2048x1536). That is a B*(&% in XP. I could spend all week trying to get my monitor to look right at that resolution in XP. P.S. custom DPI breaks APPS.
Oh, and GAMING. I haven't seen a reputable magazine/website show me that Vista is great for gaming. Infact it's about a 5% decline in almost every test I have seen (about 40)
I can't say I know for sure on any of Vista's Qualities though until I get a copy. That won't happen unless Ultimate is given to me to test for a while. Any MS reps out there need to sell to an applications admin for a semi large corporation send me a message, and a free liscense please.
As for my personal clients that I uh accept suggested donations of $75/hr for (and often get more), well I tell them to stay the eF away from vista unless they want to find another computer guy. Now is not the time, and it looks like a year before it'll be "ready." There just isn't enough support for legacy apps and hardware yet. Sure, my usb key will work, but what about that old scanner? What about the Dazzle that grandma uses to convert her VHS home movies to YouTube? What about the children?
After all that I think maybe you were trying to be funny?
O.K. if you take the WoW perspective on that it takes 300 Nagas to get 1 Naga Claw. When you get thirty claws, you take them to the elder in Sha laka ah, and he gives you a quest to get 10 Naga Hides. The drop rate for Naga hides is about 1 in 1000, but they come quick if you drop a skill and trade up skinning!
Converting from highschool to today where my job requires me to be in one place all day, and I have little time outside of working on my house for strenuous exercise. I don't need half the callories I did before, but the habbit of eating till I am >Full is well established.
You are so right, that it's a shame you posted anonymous. I can see why you did though. The fat people will be irate.
It's mentally difficult to regulate your food intake. Humans were designed to constantly seek out nurishment. We can consume resources like locusts. Poeple need to eat to live, but the actual calorie requirement for most people is way 2000 cal/day. IIRC for a programer not taking caffeine pills, who goes home to watch T.V. and work in the yard for an hour it's something like ~ 1400.
The hard part is converting from highschool where you worked out in PE, go to class, go to practice (football 2 a days anyone?) go home, and do it all again. For instance when I was in Highschool, I could eat 2 Whoppers (the burger not the computer...) a day for lunch, have bacon and eggs for breakfast, slurp down a LG milkshake, and have a 12" steak sandwich w/ fries for dinner, and actually loose weight on that diet.
But I was also running no 3 mi' day (like when I was sick...) and cycling / running to most places I went. (work, school, practice, GF's).
That is so true from my expierience, people w/ an A+, and virtually no computer expierience, NOT vaiable technicians. They are ticking TIME BOMBS. Trust me on this one.
True. It's just unfortunate that they filter by +6 (population is brainwashed)
I would like to see record companies moderate at -1, release at 3.
"Actually, I think I just thought of a new peer 2 peer scheme UBER money making scheme! Register users who could get free music if they trial & rate bands for promotion on a 1-5 scale. Then, all bands who get say 10,000 votes & have a 3 or better, get cut to CD and released. " ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
"The commercial should never have been aired in the first place, it shows so much bad judgment that it is sickening."
Really? what's are the bad judgements? did it teach kids to steal? to lie? It's a commercial. Red Bull should go too, god forbid someone actually thinks that they are going to Grow some wings. Thats got to be a moral problem right there, where are the christians complaining that you can bypass hell and earn your wings by buying a red-bull?
Besides you don't let your kids watch T.V. until they are old enough anyway right? I mean sure, muppets, and Disney channel, or what not, but this add doesn't exactly fit the car buying demographic of a telletubby...
Is why I don't work up north. I have had friends who offered to get me in at several Seattle Tech companies, and I would rather make 25$ / hr right here, 5 mi from home than make 30/hr, and spend 20x longer comuting, loose income to fuel, loose time with my family & friends, just to work with the only real perk being software discounts that I would no longer have time to use.
I did work in redmond about 9 years ago (it was really bad then, I can't imagine the drive now) doing some contract work when I was a kid. I basically abandoned it due to the commute, and I was just south of auburn at the time.
If they build a base in Dupont, I am on it like white on rice though... 8')
I had the same install of xp on a mb raid 0 install for 2 years.
The only problem I ever had with the HDD controller was when I left my pc plugged in during a large windstorm that flipped power on / off / out for a weekend. I was away from home and my PC was set to Boot on AC restore.
"I felt that one hit my balls."
ME too!
I don't eve use linux on any sort of regular basis.
Damn it! I burned my mod points yesterday...
That was the funiest thing on slashdot today!

WTF? It's a right click on the drive. Not a damn reg edit.
For Canadians like Terrance & Phillip...
"For an english audience, breaking wind on cue will sell millions."
I just about spit milk out my nose. That was the funiest thing I have read all day!
You get a +2 funny for saying that & having the handle HAMBURGER LADY!

Starbucks died? No more Latte? This can't be...
was stealth coating for fighter jets
I am working on an Arc/Fire/Ice build. I have enough of everything to get clearcasting / pom, Pyroblast, etc.., and a substantial shatter.
Suck that down in pvp!

Lol!
Are you supposed to "pound the pavement" while swimming?
Maybe that's my problem, I am not diving deep enough!
That is unless you are from Kenya. They are designed to run for 1.2 eternities.
I live in Western Washington.
'Nuff said, but I'll explain further.
Yesterday (yes March 1st) It was freakin SNOWING.

that study stems from information that is >10 years old.
