Ummm...wouldn't it be eaiser to set the WEP to be 64(40)bit hex and use that as the SSID? I know that I have a WAP with an SSID that's 12 long. Or if you wanted a short SSID, just use WEP with ASCII. I'd think that most people could figure out that something with an SSID of "usethiskey128" could figure out that it was a 128bit key of "usethiskey".
I've had my 1GHz 15" PowerBook for around six months now. I work for a wireless ISP and I have to climb towers and houses and all sorts of odd things that people shouldn't ever have to climb. My PowerBook has come on every trip with me and to date, the only thing that's wrong is that she has a small crack next to one of the screen supports. And for that she had to be dropped about four feet off an environmental enclosure onto the floor of a water tower. These things are tough as hell.
I've been running Panther 7B74 for about two weeks now and it's almost painful to use Jaguar anymore. You'll fall in love with Expose. Not having used Jaguar before, you probably won't notice most of the changes, but you'll appreciate them.
I was a BSD/linux guy before I got my Mac and I love OSX. I can't imagine having a different laptop.
Also, I swear that I'm not on the take from Apple. But I would be for free gear. Anyone from Apple listening?
Wait a second. You're saying that because you can't get a modern game that was designed to run on a damn near infinite number of hardware configurations plus a wide variety of software configurations and have that game always run perfectly every time that the programmers are sloppy?
You can't expect that programmers predict every condition of every system that their software might run on. It would take decades for a new package to be released and even then it would be huge.
How can you compare a Super Nintendo where all that games written for it are within very strict guidelines to a PC game where the programmer knows next to nothing about the systems that the game is going to be run on? The PC programmer can only try their best to quash the bugs that they can find. And there is no way that they can stop them all. I don't think that this is due to laziness on their part, it's more due to the fact that they're being expected to ship the product on time. If consumers would tolerate longer development schedules and higher program costs, then I think that software would get more stable. But everyone wants newer, faster, better *now*. Oh, and cheap too.
The only way you could have complete software stability is to ensure that every system is exactly the same, down to the RAM manufacturer and the library versions. And you're never going to get that. Not everyone wants the same computer as Bob next door.
If you're not too stuck on the 802.11 idea, but think the wireless shot is the cool bit, try Redline gear. 72Mbit, up to 80 km, NLOS (in theory). Runs at 5.8GHZ. Cool stuff.

Most people think "Well, I could make my own dinner, but then I'd have to go to the store, buy the ingredients (which probably cost about $20), and then go home after work and make it. Or I could just pull through a drive-through and pay $4 for food that's already made and I'll I have to do is unwrap it."
When you're thinking on a meal-to-meal basis, fast food seems cheaper. But when you stop to think about it (which you seen to have), fast food is much more expensive. But most people don't think about meal planning. They just think about eating.
It did that for me as well. After the second killing spree, I decided to let it do it's thing. After checking back on it, I think that it converts your message stores to a new format. It doesn't appear all that different from the old, it just takes a couple minutes to the change.
That said, I really like the new version. It feels cleaner than the old. Good job, Ximian.

Don't really care. Most states do have lemon cars that were drafted before computers got 'cool'. They only apply to cars as far as I've ever heard. Why should car laws apply to computers? Maybe when having a mission-critical computer at home is essential to the majority of the population, we'll have lemon laws that apply to computers. Or you could use that facilities that are already in place for this kind of thing intead of asking for new useless laws. BBB is you're friend.
And afterall, what else could a normal company based in PC servers or Unix systems put on a mainframe that might make economic sense?
Looks to me like you could put *anything* that could be done with Linux on one of these things. Replace 50+ server with one of these and you start breaking even on TCO. If you have more than 50 servers you would save on space and operating costs. Plus, you would have need for less personel taking care of your servers. Looks like a decent idea to me if you are a large corp. But then, that's just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

I've had IBM SCSI and IDE fail. WD, Fujitsu, Quantum, Maxtor and Seagate have all failed on my watch. I declare everything sucks.
