Yeah, it's modern times. Anyway... when I read news I try to get both alternative and mainstream sources covered. I reckon, as the quote goes... truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Having said that, I read a lot recently about fukushima reactor #4. Here's a snippet:
The troubled Reactor 4 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is at the centre of this potential catastrophe.
Reactor 4 -- and to a lesser extent Reactor 3 -- still hold large quantities of cooling waters surrounding spent nuclear fuel, all bound by a fragile concrete pool located 30 metres above the ground, and exposed to the elements.
A magnitude 7 or 7.5 earthquake would likely fracture that pool, and disaster would ensue, says Arnie Gundersen, a nuclear engineer with Fairewinds Energy Education who has visited the site.
The 1,535 spent fuel rods would become exposed to the air and would likely catch fire, with the most-recently added fuel rods igniting first.
The incredible heat generated from that blaze, Gundersen said, could then ignite the older fuel in the cooling pool, causing a massive oxygen-eating radiological fire that could not be extinguished with water.
Ok, parental advisory ahead. Might be modded as troll, because people here really piss me off with their ignorance and fucking opinions that are nothing more then text-book propaganda, and I'm reading it every god damn day, and keeping silent about it.
Yeah. Civil wars because "your" Government wants it, and initiates such things through NED and other organizations in foreign states. I'm Serbian btw, you did same here (in Yugoslavia). Your government (with a blessing of its people) systematically destroyed lives of countless generations in just one state. Now go to google and search for all the wars you initiated, then think of all those people living in those states, that have done nothing wrong in their life. Fuck you if you say it's collateral damage, because everything is not black and white and if you can't figure that out on yourself, then I won't bother wasting my time explaining and discussing anything with people like you.
Every fucking war in last whatever years has been initiated in some way by western powers, for their own interests / or when the banana state stops obeying your governments or when corporate interests are there, and many other reasons.
And you're clueless about such things. Which is why you're country is constantly at war with someone, and killing off people of some country (when you kill people it's in the name of "democracy" and "freedom " - fucking hypocritical lying fascist bastards).
You should all be ashamed of yourself for letting these thing happen. But you'll run away and stick your head into the sand and behave like nothing is happening (again), because you either don't care or you're too dumb to "figure it out". You'll come here to comment about it, and then in few months/years go vote for next war mongering overlord which is gonna continue killing people in the name of above mentioned freedom and democracy.
Ordinary people(those that don't care much about anything else other then networking/connecting or whatever the term is) use FB, since it's easy and at this point, everyone has it. FB seems to be specifically made for them.
I use it to be in touch with them ordinary people (like my dad, sister, few friends not using computers at all except fb and such)./. Crowd can bash FB as much as they like, but the truth is for some of us, if we didn't use FB, we wouldn't be able to communicate with certain people, and to me that's more important then 'OH BUT YOUR FB IS USING YOUR PRIVATE DATA' paranoia everyone's into right now. What private data ? What I have to say, I say out loud, and they can use it I don't mind. I also use irc, msn, icq, gtalk, and other tools, and use them all for communication with certain people using the same technologies. Discrediting one of them is foolish.
If you feel threatened in some way by question, then you apparently are not suited for that specific job, imho. Reason being - everything in life we decide to do (follow some religion, or life philosophy, music, movies, humor, etc.) affect our personality, and the way we deal with things. Other things, like nationality, also influence to some extent (depending on some other factors, like culture where the person grew up).
So if I interview you, you answer my questions, I'll know what kind of person you are, and if you suited for the specific job. For some positions I don't care about your personality, for some others, I do. Although there are traits in every person that can override the 'problematic' parts. Person hiring need to be aware of that, and not blindly discard someone just because he _failed_ at one question.
On the other side, if the employer is just an racist ahole, then again you win.. you wouldn't want to affiliate yourself with that kind anyway. This is the thing you can't prevent, you can't prevent people to be shallow judgmental barely conscious creatures, some of them. You can make everything illegal, the morons will still be out there, and will influence our lives in a bad way.
I watch you american people; I work for US $, I watch your shows, your movies, I'm communicating 10 hours a day on English (not native speaker), and I grew up doing the same thing, and as an example...since I'm not American, having and outside (but still... somewhat inside) perspective I can say that you people generally share some traits on a nation scale. And that's normal, it's called culture. If for what I want, people from your culture doesn't fit, then I won't hire you, and vice versa.
In capitalism and fascism, the powerful betrays the consumers/subjects. And exploits them. They only bullshitted you, when they, between the lines, said something like: you have a choice.
It reminds me of a George Carlin bit called, you have no rights, you have owners.
Evidence is out on the open for a long long time now. It's the lack of awareness and abundance of apathy, that's why they get away with this stuff, and they'll continue to get away with blackmail, murder, theft, etc. for a long time.
I don't get you people. You don't have to be hard core fanatics to be skeptical. Judging from recent politics posts here on slashdot, it seems to me that skepticism in you people is long dead.
There certainly could be political motivation in bin laden conspiracy theories. I mean, it's highly probable. If you keep it all secret for 10 years, without explaining some evidence flaws and there ARE many, etc. I'm not gonna be giving references because I'm not trying to take sides and 'fight' for one side or another, i'm pointing out the mindless labeling, stereotyping, and two dimensional thinking in general that somehow started to be considered as "normal" and "balanced" way of thinking.
That's why you have brain, so you don't buy/get stuff you don't need. However, It seems that people stopped using that brain since 24/7 news channels.
I don't have any masks, and liquid whatever soaps, nothing, and neither does anyone I ever knew in my life. EVER. All generations, and we're all alive and kickin'. In fact, I can with certainty say that we here from Balkan are healthier then people with all this high tech soaps and masks and the rest of it. You know why ? Because we don't go to hospitals for every meaningless symptom and don't panic, in fact, don't think about that stuff at all. If I die I die. Fuck it. I'm not gonna live my life buying gas masks and walking around with one. I for my self, can say, I know without news propaganda/sensationalism/whatever when and what to do, and if I'm mistaken, I don't care. I'm gonna die anyway. I abandoned the notion that I'm important so important. In the grand scheme of things, only thing that matters is my relationships with people in the now.
Regarding this nuclear disaster topic, or whatever you want to label it as, same rule applies. Common sense and thinking is all everyone need. Spend a month learning, informing yourself if you think it's important for your situation (where you live etc) to know. Read 50 different media sources, including the conspiracy theorists, why not ? Are you closed minded skeptic or open minded skeptic ? After you do all that, you'll know what to do. Relying on media to care for you is retarded. Think and act for yourself, stop being a pussy.
I'm not in animal rights or whatever, but this reminds me of star trek episode where the picard is data's lawyer. The science behind this will probably be/is great, and people should probably master it, but I see people discussing this as these things would serve as an entertainment for us, and no one mentioned is it moral/ethical to bio-engineer extinct species so we can put it in zoo and take our kids to see it.
After all, if this succeeds, those mammoths will be living things.
.If you think the guy's doing this for financial interest ?
I mean.. what he's doing and how, requires money anyway. If he gets the documents and spends whole lot of cash in the process of living that way and doing what he does, of course he needs money. It's how the system works. He isn't stupid.
And that is.. controlling people. When things start getting out of hand, they start enforcing and censoring stuff. Like they want to do with internet now, because internet is biggest threat to them. Internet is communication freedom.
Authority never liked that, because it undermines their power to do what they want. Religion... Governments, no difference there. All they want is power. And if people don't rise up now, and let their voices be heard, whatever the cost, we and future generations are properly screwed, because this now is our best chance, and if we miss it, the whole point of internet will be lost soon, and we'll go back to getting tailored info from our masters which suits their interests, not the truth.
I'd rather have anarchy then this dictatorship masked as democracy/freedom shit.
The Soviets wisely stopped fighting in Afghanistan when they realized it's hopeless to civilize that mountain country, and we should too. We'd save a LOT of lives.
Offtopic and possibly flame bait, but someones gotta say this.
As someone who had his country 'invaded' by US gov, I gotta say... we don't want you to 'civilize' us. And don't give me that bs crap about terrorism, what, are you so dumbed down that you really think we, less developed countries, suicide bomb or whatever you're country because we're jealous you live so good ? Yeah, right. We don't give a f about you, until you start meddling in our business, which you do because of you're gov own self interests, not because us gov is some kind of peace keepers or whatever propaganda they shove down you're throat so you support this kind of bs.
And regarding this wikileaks stuff, if you, the American people, don't do something about you're government (and no, electing so called 'democrats' won't help) nothing will happen. This will get buried eventually. And for all those deaths and all injustice you're gov did, using you're (taxpayers) money, no one will be judged - "because you aren't waging war, you're CIVILIZING us".
I don't know if this happened to many other people, but when I was reading through the leaks, I thought: It's good that my government knows all this stuff and keeps track of it. I think I've grown so used to thinking of the USA as being run by fools that it was actually a bit comforting to see that they actually do research and know stuff. Too bad that doesn't stop them acting foolishly!
I seen this kind of comments here already. From my viewpoint it seems you're Government knows what they're doing when it comes to foreign 'relationships', which I suppose is because that's all it matters to them.
They already got American people by the balls, so why care for them.
... There are theories around that he probably didn't read, because of scientific prejudice towards the material.. I read a few, that are considered by scientific community as garbage, without them reading it and keeping an open mind / being skeptical.
The book is called My Big Toe, a physicist. Written by Thomas Campbell. So if someone is interested in this kind of stuff, I suggest you read it, not because of my recommendation, but because you would have one more concept/idea to keep an eye for, and try to prove or disprove what is written there, therefore help the 'movement' evolve.. make room for new ideas and concepts that will push us forward.
Being closed minded and full of prejudice doesn't help, never did.
The blind faith many people seem to put in Assange confuses the hell out of me. He pissed off the United States, so any and all allegations against him are automatically baseless? By those standards, all anti-US terrorists in US history are automatically innocent.
1. He 'should' be innocent until proven guilty. But we all know this is just BS. 2. As someone here pointed out before, it doesn't make sense to 'try to rape' someone or molest, if you do what Assange does. It doesn't mean he's innocent ofc, but rule 1. should especially apply in this case, because it can easily be smear campaign. That is... the probability of this being smear campaign by US Gov is high.
And probabilities is the only thing you can count on, until you get objective facts. Well... at least it is from my perspective, since I'm not American, and I tasted the injustice of US Gov on my own skin many times.
The 'experience of time' exists, which is enough, because it fulfils it's purpose that way. Without time/illusion of time, there is nothing. No evolution, no nothing, so you wouldn't sit there writing this, if time didn't exist (at least as an illusion).
Using your logic, nothing exists. Prove me wrong. It's 'possible' that you'll wake up one day, in completley different 'reality frame' and see that all 'this' was just a dream or something similliar. Even now, while you dream, you (usually) don't know you'r dreaming, maybe this so called life, is only another 'type' of dream ?
I installed Linux to few of my windows users friends.. in the beginning there where a few questions, but after a month or so, they happily adapted to it. The only problem is if users need some software that isn't available on Linux.. but that's different issue. Since then, I'm happier also. No more virus/malware related calls.
I've got 750 kbps, and everything works just fine. Facebook loads quickly (matter of seconds), youtube isn't buffering (except maybe when watching HD), 700mb movie downloads in 3 hrs.
Where's the rush ?
IMHO.. you don't need more then 3mbps today. And that 3mbps, to download a movie, and to watch youtube simult.
First of all... for corporate/business stuff, you should use your corporate/business mail servers and other services, that are dedicated to that business. Using public services for business doesn't make much sense.
Private stuff.. well, don't use public services for stuff that you consider sensitive. I mean.. I chat with my gf via gtalk.. even if they read it, i don't care. They could as well sit next to me in a coffee shop and hear what we talk about. I certainly won't disclose anything 'sensitive' in public, and using public services like gtalk/gmail.
For some sensitive stuff, I tend to use my own services, which aren't that hard to install and customize. There are some basic mail server softwares, dynamic dns, etc. So in about max 2 hours, you can set up your own system for communication, and possibly configure SSL for all those services.
Gmail/Gtalk has it's purpose, but using them for business and or sensitive private stuff, is insane to me, so this question doesn't make much sense also.
To all who says 'well it's an open protocol': So, why did they keep windows/macosx client then ? Dropping (already existing) linux client, implies something specific. Implies 'priorities'. Obviously, there's no room for Linux desktop users.
Google contributes to OS, but not as much as would be nice to do, especially because the amount of staff and money they have, and their whole business is based on OS and Linux. How much they have, million servers ? I presume all on Open Source (Linux). How many of their apps run on Linux ? One (afaik).. Google Earth. How much would they pay to run Windows on that amount of servers ? Or Solaris.. or whatever ?
They can't spare $200(even a million would be a small amount)K a year to support a platform that enabled them to earn as much as they do ? It's not just "well the userbase of linux is to small" it's about giving support to Linux... and even if the userbase is small... so what ? If Mozilla, iTunes, Opera, nvidia, ati, can make apps for linux, why can't google then ? Especially because this platform enabled them to earn money for 11 years for free.
It's not a requirement, as someone above said.. it doesn't state in GPL licence that you need to contribute, but look at it this way. In law, there's isnt a statement that you need to say "thanks" if someone do something nice to you, but you do anyway. Because it's nice thing to do, and it's (according to my moral/ethical/whatever values) right thing to do. And based on that value system of mine, i build an opinion about people who just take, and don't show any gratitude. Greed.
[possible flame part of the post] Google can at least make a freakin' linux client for their apps. But you know what ? If there was a lot of money in that course of action, they would. Because google, as everyone else is doing all they do because of money. It ain't because they love Open Source, Linux or you. That's how those PR, Marketing, CEOs and other thinks. It's their money in your pocket, and they will provide you with enough to keep you satisfied. Since Linux userbase is small... they don't give a shit about your satisfaction. [/possible flame part of the post]
Yeah they give back, with Goo and python and whatever, but the ratio of giving:taking is disgraceful for a company such as google.
The difference between MS business model and Googles business model is only different by the ability of google to mask theirs motivation. MS tells openly.. we care only about money and thats it. Google says, we care about open source, and you.. and you all think that's true, because they said so.
And you'll probably mutilate this post, and turn all of this text against me, and I don't care what you do. You can protect google as long as you like, I see them as another business who is interested only in money and expanding their empire. Like Carlin said. The power is only interested in expanding its power.
(And for you pathetic people who'll look at they way I speak english, and try to bash me personally, I'm not english and it aint my native language, so spare me of your insightful comments about how dumb I am, I read it once before already.)
4) US Government attack they own country on 9/11 to induce fear and to get approval of citizens to attack other country's, so that they can conquest, steal, build pipelines from caspian sea, kill hundreds of innocent children by cluster bombs, drop off humanitarian packets together with mentioned bombs, which looks exactly alike, so they can blow up in "parts" little hungry children.
Bush is not convicted of anything, of one murder... he commited thousands of murders, genocide... Obama, war on terror ? Yeah, right. You gotta be stupider then George Bush to believe that shit. Now you have war in afghanistan. The same politics is continuing. Your entire government should be publicly hanged for the horrors and masacres they commited, and YOU people, are so ignorant of these things, that you say ohh.. great, im an american, stupid communists and shit, i live in a land of FREEDOM. You still believe that ? Ok, think about that again every half year. It's measurable - how much "freedom" you have, and it's going downhill. Just thought on censorship and repression in your country. Every few days there's a news here about that.
You started exchanging your freedom for false sense of security after 9/11, that was the point of it. For you to give away your freedom and your opinions, and to let "them sort it out".
This is not a flamebait, but these fucking bastards that are shitting on other country's all the time and regimes, and thinking that they are free and that they live in "democracy" and stupid ignorant facts like that, are going on my nerves already, and someone needs to say this, cuz cnn certainly won't, and neither are any of you, because you are so bullshitted that you can't (apparently) see whats in front of your nose anymore.
There's two sites that I manage, one is my own porn site, the second one is independent media site, where I only maintain their servers.
According to stats, Firefox is winning big already. Don't have the exact figures here right now but 60 % of users are comming from firefox, on both sites. One is in Serbian, the other is American, stationed in NY.
Maybe something like linking three-four laptops and configuring them so they 'share' cpu power (openmosix or something that is maintained), disks with drbd/GFS2 |& NFS ? External USB/Firewire disks for a lot of capacity..
You can even hook them up to a small motorcycle baterry, I guess it won't last much longer but there you go.
I mean, this is not a very 'professional' solution, obviously, but I think something like this is your best bet.
Yeah, it's modern times. Anyway... when I read news I try to get both alternative and mainstream sources covered. I reckon, as the quote goes... truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Having said that, I read a lot recently about fukushima reactor #4. Here's a snippet:

So what happened until now I guess shouldn't be the focus of media attention, but rather how to deal with reactor #4 - of course, if these statements are true.

Prove me wrong.
I installed Linux to few of my windows users friends.. in the beginning there where a few questions, but after a month or so, they happily adapted to it. The only problem is if users need some software that isn't available on Linux.. but that's different issue.
Since then, I'm happier also. No more virus/malware related calls.
And yeah, Ubuntu is a way to go.
To all who says 'well it's an open protocol':
So, why did they keep windows/macosx client then ?
Greed.
[possible flame part of the post]
Google can at least make a freakin' linux client for their apps.
Look at what your Government do:

Next is IE then Opera, then Safari.
Maybe something like linking three-four laptops and configuring them so they 'share' cpu power (openmosix or something that is maintained), disks with drbd/GFS2 |& NFS ? ..
External USB/Firewire disks for a lot of capacity
You can even hook them up to a small motorcycle baterry, I guess it won't last much longer but there you go.
I mean, this is not a very 'professional' solution, obviously, but I think something like this is your best bet.
Good luck.
