In the short term, meaning next 20 years, this money would be much better spent repairing antiquated and unsafe bridges, damns, levies and sewage systems than it would be sending anyone to the moon or mars.

Significantly more people will benefit through lives saved and catastrophes averted by wisely spending money instead of wasting it in a time when what we have to gain from space exploration by humans is very little in comparison

Tivo has tried to come out with some nice additions, like renting movies on demand. The stupid aspect of this offering is that you have to provide a credit card to another company such as Amazon. Why Tivo does not handle the charging transaction themselves is beyond me since they already have my CC number for the recurring monthly charges. So due to this I will not be renting any movies on demand from Tivo.

If the answer to the first two are yes and the second no; why waste your money? Personally I have a HS education and have had several great paying jobs in IT. Since I didn't spend a crapload to get a degree, I am way ahead of my counterparts that did. How did I do it? Well I discovered I had an aptitude for coding and more importantly problem solving and then I worked my ass off for a number of years. I just ate it up, couldn't get enough, HTML, DHTML, then Perl, C, Java, Shell, etc.

I padded my self education with some formal education in Unix and C programming at the university level, and even more importantly, I found a brilliant person who was able to serve as a mentor of sorts.
I am not saying my way is the right way for you or anyone; but it was for me and so I thought I'd share it. So good luck in whatever you choose!
