Furthermore, Apple is a terrible company to include in this kind of survey. A very large percentage of their customers are Mac enthusiasts.

Trust me, speaking as a Mac user and friend of Mac enthusiasts, you haven't heard *anybody* bitch and complain about Apple worse than ardent Mac enthusiasts. If Apple does anything that doesn't match what's come before (e.g. no spring-loaded folders in OS X), the enthusiast will climb to the top of the nearest mountain, put a soap box down, climb on top of that, pull out his bullhorn, and call Apple the worst names you've ever heard. All because something is different. That was the irony of the Think Different campaign: hardcore Mac users are the most reactionary, conservative folks when it comes to "their" operating system.

Having said that, I'll stop using my Mac when they pry the translucent keyboard from my cold, dead hands. ;)

Let me guess, George Lucas betrayed the original spirit of Star Wars and was probably a racist, too, right? At least he can keep track of which Episode a particular scene is in. If you're going to be whatever the opposite of Fanboy is, at least get your carbon-copy opinion straight.

What is the opposite of Fanboy? Flameboy? Fangboy? Phanboy?

Back on topic, why not just wait? Is 10 seconds extra too long to wait for the FBI and Interpol to tell you it's illegal to watch the DVD? Dang.

Hey, you made a cool portmanteau! Eloquent + elegant = elequent. :)

Scene 3: Jar Jar sees Anakin diving out of the air car and stands up in his own car to watch... leaning too far over, of course, briefly catching his foot in the seat belt, then plummeting several hundred feet to become a vaguely Gungan-shaped, somewhat star-patterned hole in the street.

Scene 4: The other ambassador from Naboo, irate and distraught, pushes Jar Jar over the side of their floating senate car when the latter proposes Chancellor Palpatine be given emergency powers. Jar Jar lands, breaking his back, on top of the Wookie delegation, which proceed to break the rest of him. Half of him (Jar) winds up next to the ET cameo. The other half (the other Jar) is shipped to the Geonosian arena for immediate consumption by the reek, acklay, and nexu.

    One can but dream.

It's a bad analogy if I don't agree with you, eh? Political zealotry and aesthetics don't mix, period. You can convolute the whole thing all you want, but it doesn't change that fact.

If one wants to protest the MPAA by not going to see movies, fine. But comparing something/somebody (Beier? Hollywood? MPAA? Editors?) to a mass-murderer, calling the editors hypocrites, and generally laying into people for not agreeing with the AC is zealotry, pure and simple. And no matter how righteous the cause, I won't buy into zealots that can't separate politics and aesthetics, who substitute intolerance for rationality.

You said yourself that you can appreciate a good visual effect, but that because you don't agree with the MPAA you won't go to movies. You have successfully made the separation. The editors have successfully made the separation. The AC cannot and won't tolerate anyone making the separation. In fact, he makes a call to people "with any concern for freedom." Freedom, of course, as long as one doesn't disagree with him. This is absolutism as its worst.

Political thought is a continuum, not a spectrum; the far left and the far right meet at totalitarianism and use the same methods to kill dissent. The AC uses the same extreme, Draconian thought that he decries. Is he justified? No.
