    It depends on the problem. Sometimes, modularizing a performance critical part of a real time software just does not make sense, especially if that function will never be used anywhere else.

    That is if there is a real person to reach out for. What if everyone you know ignore you because you were poor, ugly, have never been taught to smile, and in a materialistic culture that value people based on their salary? That when you tried to ask for a bread, they give you a stone?

    There is no point in only understanding on person, and live a sheltered life with only the one person you can understand. Nevertheless, it is equally pointless to understand the world but lose yourself. Neither women nor men are universal, they are connected but are diverse. Reality is only what you perceive, so understanding "women" is only imaginative.

    Hating someone (which doesn't really affect anyone but yourself) and inciting hate (where one act upon the hate to jeopardize another person's life) is different, just like people who thought of murdering and actually murdering someone is different.

    Surely, you have freedom to think whatever you want, but idea have consequences, and thus you need to take responsibility of idea you vocalized/published. But certainly, there need to be a balance.

    Indeed. There is no guarantee that any upgrade/update won't kill a system, which is why Windows is so broken because it is a great risk to left it outdated.

    MacOS and Linux don't have that many problems using software that are 3 years old. I have Ubuntu Dapper installed on my aunt's laptop 3 years ago and it is running well (although I just upgraded it a few days ago since I am on vacation and have nothing to do).

    Yet, science is created on faith. We accept scientific model not because it can be proven to be 100% truth, but because no other feasible model is developed. If every scientific theory is created based on raw data alone, science will not exist.

    Even if we are trying to be objectivity by creating procedures and checklists, the process itself is not without bias; we have not taken into account what we do not know.

    If China isn't capitalistic, no place on earth is. Money is everything in China, you can bribe and do almost anything things with money.

    For example, with money, you can dig up all the earth around a household you don't like, force people to work in hazard environments, dump toxic waste to your neighbour, and have people cut off their arms and legs, etc... just because you have money!

    Pure capitalism to its finest.

    There maybe some irrational people with irrational principles, but that should be mean anyone who disagree with you must be irrational.

    It is kind of interesting seeing all the fuss gay people make about non-gay people or vice-versa. Why the dichomtomy? If I didn't know better, I would have thought they are some kind of religion.

    Actually, it is possible to have GUI that replace most of the command line interfaces, but it certainly wouldn't be the WIMP interface we are used to. It probably requires other form of input device, mouse will not cut it.

    There are so many useful UI inovations that never get to see daylights.

    Doesn't console have GUI? GUI doesn't equal WIMP, a ncurses menu that let you install nvidia driver is also GUI.

    I don't have a netbook, but I don't recall ever editing any config files just to have program appears in different tab under KDE4. It is just drag-and-drop, and you can lock if you don't like this function. On the other hand, changing language is just a few clicks in KDE4 in system settings. Maybe Asus just want to be different or something?

    It is only an issue if the person doing the installation is too ignorant to have CPU scaling, idle_timer, and other powersaving features disabled.
