I agree, I'm as paranoid and cynical as the next slashdotter but griping about this seems a little extreme. It was a stolen car for crying out loud....and the point of the OnStar system IS to track your car. So, if you don't want bank robbers to be tracked in your stolen car...then don't get the OnStar system installed.:)
I agree...I've used RH, SUSE and even Slack and I'm sticking with Mandrake. Sometimes you just want things to work and not have to hand configure every friggin thing. That's what is great about Linux...you can choose what distro suits your needs. Too bad some elitists don't seem to see that.
I'll make this simple for you and the dozens of others that can't seem to grasp the concept. This has nothing to do with the technical aspect of auto-updating. This has to do with the wording of MS's EULA. That's all. Period. Get it?
Or do what I did and go into services and disable the automatic update service. Sure, you have to manually install updates but at least it gives you the illusion of control.
Sorry to poke holes in your example but, unless I'm mistaken, the Saudi's don't have an equivalent to our 1st admendment, so your example means nothing. In the U.S. we are supposed to have free speech, so excuse us when we feel that right is being infringed.
I don't have a problem with them issuing warnings about new viruses AS LONG as it is professional and more importantly...ACCURATE. This latest "warning" is neither.
What do I call it? I call it the media company's problem. If they want to copy-prevent their stuff...let them try, but it is not the responsibility of the goverment or the tech industry to do it for them.

Considering why the pyramids were built, shouldn't that be an afterlife-time warranty?
And you honestly don't think it could happen/happens now?
Nothing. Didn't you know that copy prevention isn't there to stop pirates, it's there to annoy legit users :)

Also, have you noticed that a lot of samples on Amazon seem to pick the worst possible section of the song?
A car from 1983 is pretty beat up? News to me...mine seems to work fine.
Might want to run a spell checker yourself.
If we in the U.S.A. would do the same right now. Given most people's willing blindness to what's going on with the goverment, I doubt it.
But aren't the bulbs in those projectors only rated for so many hours of use? And if I remember correctly, they aren't exactly cheap to replace.
But Microsoft isn't stopping anyone from running Win95 on new hardware if they so choose.

How about to play games from Japan? Or maybe you don't want to scratch up your original copies so use a cd-r copy to play.
I don't care how cool it looks...I'm not supporting any device that has DRM support.
"I bet when Gates suggested this scheme to her, Rosen creamed in her undies."
*shudder* That's an image that would haunt me the rest of my days.
Note that I didn't say it was ok...I said it was not comprable to shoplifting. Try reading for a change ok?
Poor analogy. No physical item is being stolen..therefore it is not comprable to shoplifting.

Sheesh...doesn't anyone grok sarcasm anymore?
Or if you have a Palm go here - http://www.ateliersoftware.com/palm/scc.html
Or just a money order or personal check. Which are the only forms of payment I accept.

Wait until the BSA wins over the Jehovah's Witnesses.
