I was thinking about that myself, and wondering why Dell wouldn't go out of its way to mitigate the risk. It takes no time at all to register "dellhatesoursoldiers.com" or other equally inflammatory domain name, get some cheap web space, and start slinging the corporate napalm. Works even better if you get Digg or Fark to pick up the link.
well it's not registered:P
Why don't your people call my people and we'll get this corporate napalm factory started.
My brother was stationed in Iraq for a very long time. He probably got a $1700 laptop cause he wanted a gaming laptop. When you are going to be stationed overseas it is a pretty good idea to get a nice laptop considering that's your sole form of entertainment and one of the only real luxuries a soldier can have.
When my brother was stationed in Iraq we gave him a nice laptop and an Ipod and trust me he appreciated it.
It disgusts me that a huge company like dell would do this to a soldier. This is pretty much PR suicide. It's extremely weird that the didn't even give him a military discount. Now in' days EVERYONE gives some sort of military discount. Airlines, Movie Theaters, etc.
Shame on you dell. You should be honored to provide a service to our men overseas and instead of making it hard you should be doing your best to make it easier and to try not to tarnish your reputation by pulling this.
It is great that software patents are finally being examined and reformed. Software patents are incredibly stupid as they can be incredibly broad and are for the sole purpose of stifling innovation. Instead of keeping large corporations from stealing and others inventions and making the inventors effort worthless, software patents do the opposite and allow large corporations from patenting broad techniques that almost always have prior art and leeching off other large corporations or hurting the American Consumer by stifling innovation and creating monopolies.
Patents in themselves and Intellectual Property are good at times but when it comes to software patents, all they do is cause abuse. For example many of our largest corporations have had a lot of their money stolen by patent trolls.
Patent law needs to be reformed and the Government needs to something about how large corporations are taking advantage of their resources to prove that they have the right to do techniques such as "webpages", "structured documents", or "contextual advertisements". Such broad things like that really shouldn't be reserved by anyone.
Patents are useful and are necessary in order to reward people and companies for spending R&D money to fund a lab or years of research. But software patents are basically a race for the first patent troll to type up an idea and spend the money to patent it. They don't have any benefit to anyone and they don't encourage anything except for companies to bully others and to squash competition.
This is something new, the citizens wiretapping and spying on the president. I guess we truly will see change with Obama.
lol yep this whole administration is already flipping around. Hopefully this is a sign for things to come. Let the citizens do the wiretapping and let the government do their government stuff.
*CHEERS*
PS: But seriously I'm a big obama fan, he really did make some fantastic nominations so far. Definitely a departure from the cronyism of recent years. Heck Hillary was his enemy and never really endorsed him. I love Hillary but I'm not sure if shes really the best for president but she definitely is a brilliant women who should have a high position in our government and have some power to dictate foreign policy.
I just think its a win win. Especially now that its the winter. It contributes to the heat of your house (which will replace some of the heat from your electric heater) and your contributing to something and not wasting your computer hardware. I mean why not, it's scientific research isn't it?
I mean there is nothing wrong with taking your PS3 which has such an immensely powerful processor that is used for super computers and servers into good use.
I don't see anything wrong with it either. There are many instances of charities doing these kind of partnerships. For example the red cross sells its logo to different companies. In fact Johnson&Johnson is suing the red cross for using the red cross trademark in the same market as they are (bandaids, first aid kits, etc.).
And I'm not a big microsoft fan AT ALL but I do see that you really can't condemn microsoft for bundling IE, WMP, etc. with their OS. It seems rather logical and their really isn't anything wrong with that.
I think the EU is a little too strict and I think that is one field that the United States is right. You should really only go fine a company for anti trust when they are hurting the consumer (eg. price fixing) which bundling something for free really isn't.
I think he is kinda taking it too far. Everything should have moderation and he sounds like he is fuming over Asus adding non free components (which ALL computer companies do) to their linux OS. Just like with a windows PC if you don't like the stupid toolbars and trial crapware than remove them but he should commend them for not forcing people to buy windows.
There is a need for proprietary software and you people have to be realistic. We can't just go all the sudden to 100% free software because that meaning people working for free to make all that software. There are a lot of people who donate to free software and many people who contribute to free software but you can't expect every single programmer to work for free.
Just my 2 cents.
I just believe there is two sides to everything and having radical views are never good.
OMG it all makes sense now....Cheney is behind this and after we begin a war again his competitors lawn signs than he will profit off the immunity his company receives...
it would have worked if it weren't for that meddling author.
Now the first test for the Obama administration is whether or not he can find a solution and a strategy to combat those sign terrorists...and close the loopholes those dating sites are using to cheat their taxes.
Excellent novel...I swear it reminded me of Snow Crash because of the immense detail.
There is some crazy detail in this story and I must give credit to the author. You deserve a shiny metal for an article that long and well written....and excellently researched
You might be the next Neal Stephenson of the spam novel world XD
Any competition is good. Just look at how fancast and hulu have changed up the whole tv game. Since these are legal and now you will have a place to find all of these music videos. A lot of music videos aren't on youtube because they have been taken down and a lot of them...especially the ones which are a little older are horrible quality.
So cheers now lets go back to bashing corporations like usual.:P
All competition is good but really its not really that great. Their internet will be censored and it will only be 300kb/s. It certainly can't hurt but really there is two sides to this story. It really wouldn't be worth the hassle for this somewhat mediocre internet if it causes interference with cell phones.
Well many interstates have 70 mph limits and 80 is typically less than the flow of traffic. most of the time under 10 mph over the speed limit is okay unless u have someone struggling to make quota and it will thrown out in traffic court.
But 80 is definitely a more than acceptable speed for a teenager to be driving on an interstate.

This isn't about copyright anymore this is about our basic privacy and freedom being taken away if we will have our laptops and ipods searched at border crossing or seized. What about if its your corporate with sensitive files that are NDA. But no the bush administration doesn't care about the ramifications of their actions.
And yah...what about the american people. I love how they say "it's not all about you google" when google is standing up for us!
Use gmail hosting. You can either buy the domain from godaddy or direct from google. Its free and you can even use your existing domain. its reliable and it works great. Its basically exactly like gmail and its free. You can even do other nice stuff for your business like calendar, gtalk, homepage, etc.
I like it and it has been my email host since it started a couple years ago.
well...it is a beta...thats typically the problem with betas is that your a guinea pig.
But noone is stopping you from unchecking it and "usage statistics and crash reports" seems pretty standard if you ask me. Last time I checked firefox does that.
I mean the only reason that the TOS says all that crap because its taken straight out of their google eula. Sure its stupid of them to not tweak the eula considering its a application that isn't directly related to google. Obviously its acceptable for them to say for google services since it is their service.
I'm using chrome and I think its a pretty slick browser. Didn't take much getting used to and its fast and minimalist. I have a lightweight ultra portable laptop with a small screen so I prefer minimalism.
Sure it might not be the next super popular browser that overtakes FF. But its competition against IE and goes in a completely different direction than FF.
Thats why though none of us may use opera or safari (opera is pretty nice in its minimalistic sense though) they provide competition.
In the end can't we all agree that any competition to IE is great!
So cheers to google for providing new innovations which can always be food for thought for FF and can make IE seem even weaker.
Well what if its a message from my church or from Wal Greens. I wouldn't mind getting a "your prescription is ready" message and it to be outlawed just because they forget about legitimate usages

probably Uwe Boll's brother.
Thats Americanism at its best!
Oh fellow Heinlein reader. You deserve a hug for working a Heinlein word into a tech article.
But yes, I grok, I don't get what the huhu is with the rev command.

You do understand that only applies to pre recorded messages. Last time I checked you ccan't pank a message.
So look at the positive now all of our telemarketing calls are real people that we can screw with!
