According to your comment, sounds like the Japan-only stuff is priced about the same as the localized versions of Western stuff, and some do import the lower-price non-localized versions of the Western stuff.
Incidentally, CDs are in the same language [albeit with different bonus material], but if translation is involved, I suppose some might already know the language and some would want entertaining immersion in the language.

I'm reminded of one reading about English teacher who used English-language Magic the Gathering cards, for instance.

Me too - cheap games, and still run (heck, run well) on my old machine.
I just use the CD's natively on Windows though.

Since one gets a lot of gameplay out of the classic AAA titles, not much need to have a huge library - a few main games to switch between. For example, I was playing a lot of Age Of Empires a few weeks ago, now I'm playing a lot of Starcraft.

I wonder what the correlation/causation is between the best teachers and those with the subject-matter degree (or experience in the field) in addition to the education stuff.

By the way, I found it amusing that one such teacher, one of my favorites in a non-science field, has the subject degree form Yale and the education degree from a state school, even though I'm not hung up on college status.
