You asked, " how many subsistence hunters do you think there are in Bavaria?"

Well assuming it meant "annually" where the article said "50,000 boars hunted", I'd say there are around 25,000 boar hunters.

Each one gets an average of 2 boars per year, yielding 80 lbs of meat. Since the article said, "In Austria, authorities say that eating the unlikely amount of 2 pounds of contaminated boar meat that is 10 times above the legal cesium limit would amount to two-thirds of an adult's normal annual radiation intake by food." We can conclude that around 500 people might get a contaminated boar each year, and they might get 13 years worth of normal annual radiation in a short period of time, for each boar. If you catch 5 boars in one year, you have a 10% chance. As a hunter, I don't like those odds.

"Bavarian hunters don't usually need to live off their wild boar," I don't know how it works with hunters you know, but the ones I know eat the animals they kill.

"In Austria, authorities say that eating the unlikely amount of 2 pounds of contaminated boar meat that is 10 times above the legal cesium limit would amount to two-thirds of an adult's normal annual radiation intake by food." You said, "So, in reality, in Bavaria people panic lots it seems. You would have to eat boar meat every day for months and months to be affected by this. There ain't that many animals left in ALL of Germany! There is only a problem if you plan on actually farming certain crops in soils that received lots of cesium fallout." Well, if you are a solo hunter and you get a contaminated boar, it would be very easy to eat a lot of boar meat. You might get 40lbs of meat or more for a large boar. You might eat that much in 6 months. So, as you said, eating boar meat for months and months, is quite likely if you are a subsistence hunter. Just saying... it's not like you get a boar burger once in a while. You kill a boar and you get a whole bunch of meat all at once.
