Are there no honest companies left out there who just want to make their money by selling a good product, and not by trying to exploit their customers in some underhanded way?
Yes, there are. The reasons you haven't heard from them are because they're usually gone within the year. But hey, feel free to start your own company.
I don't use text messages because AT&T only let you send messages to other AT&T customers and email. What's the point? But I see my friends in Norway sending messages back and forth to everybody, and I would love to do something similar (instead of calling, just type something like "meet me at Joe's @ 10") The receiver can read anytime, and I don't have to wait to they get free to get my message.
What is the problem with Maildir? I mean if you're going to store email, might as well use reisterfs. I don't have any problems with big mail boxes, and the extra integrity of the email messages, are worth the (non-noticable) dealy.
Used to get the mbox corrupted once in a while. Never had problems with Maildir.
Thesolo wrote that Microsoft should never have released Outlook with that many security bugs.
All mail on the internet, sooner or later will hit a sendmail server. Sendmail (with BIND) has been shown to be among the ten worse security applications on the 'net. If the Sendmail people had not released their product until it had been properly secure (and considering, they're still finding security bugs), then email as we know it today probably wouldn't exist. So, if the sendmail people had waited until they had a secure server, then that worm would never have been sent and arrived at someone's email box, because the server inbetween wouldn't be up.
Of course, throw in BIND, and you wouldn't have an internet either (do you know Slashdot's IP address without looking it up? Doesn't the root servers run on BIND?)
But if these guys had never released their product with gaping security holes, we would never have discovered Outlook's security holes in the first place.
Actually Linux is getting OEM pre-installs. The local Fry's Electronics (here in Silicon Valley) are advertising Linux system preinstalled for $299 (WinXP is an optional extra). For those in the Bayarea, check out the Fry's ad spread (in the Metro, Mercury etc).

Why are everybody so dead set on beating down a dead horse? Last year, this time, it was all about the new economy, how everything was supposed to be a service, profit didn't matter, old companies were on their way out. And don't tell me it was just CNN-Money that gave that line. Remember a certain gun-toting 'leader', some VA stocks, and a lot of chest beating?
Hmmm... does anyone still use Potato. I thought most people move to testing/woody?

The US Constitution might have been clear and concise, but it has never in the country's history, been followed. The founders had slaves. Women and people of wrong class and color couldn't vote. There are probably several more examples, but I'm too bored to check it out.
Record something else in that timeslot.
That's my experience too. Bought the Dave Matthews Band CD after downloading some of their songs from Napster.
The thing is, most of the songs on Napster are so poorly encoded, I rather just buy the CD and reencode it myself.
But since I lost my highspeed connection (moved), I haven't been able to download any songs, so I haven't bought any CDs
Why dial the 7 numbers? Just put her in the phone book on your cell.
Isn't that what ESR recommends? Releases often and early?

God I miss Norway (going back in three weeks)

For some reason I read it as Random Love Unites Linux...
Courier IMAP uses an enhanced Maildir format (original Maildir didn't support subfolders)

Well, let me connec the dots.

Really? And what will happen if you throw enough planes in the air? Will Linux be able to handle it or will we start seeing kernel panicks?
And Linux does crash. Had one last week on the server here (Linux 2.4.17)
and when did he say that? Was it not, oh, back in Dec 2000?
Microsoft could collapse in 6 months
Will ESR talk about how M$ will collapse within six months again?

Yes, there is a sigh and a smiley here somewhere
No comparisons can be unbias unless the reviewer comes down and admit that GNU/Linux is great, and kiss Linus' butt.
Remember, we're independent and proud. Just tell us what to think.

Just glad I never worked for those companies.
Hmmm... this really got me thinking, maybe a poll question?
What do you use Linux/*BSD for?
I have a firewall/file/mp3/mail server running Debian Linux (Woody), and a desktop system running Win2K and Debian Linux (dualboot).
