It's a shame so few companies want to develop accessories like 'skins' for Apple products. If they did, you could just buy something to cover the screen while it's in your pocket! Oh well.
Incidentally, I see a similar trend in web-surfing. Some guy surfing through interesting/funny/lame sites while a group spectate him or her.
Because it's so much more interesting web-surfing on your own! If people want to see the same lame/funny sites, then doing it in a group seems perfectly logical.
I've also known people who prefer watching others play games, probably because they prefer passive entertainment to active. For some games it even makes sense, when it's the kind of game where you just want to see what happens when you do various things. ("What happens if you set the police car on fire?") It's just like people getting together to do stupid things in real life, but less dangerous. The only time it starts becoming weird is when people are getting together to watch something more repetitive like Tetris or something.
That's actually just a trait of males in general (though more pronounced in those who don't interact with women very frequently). Men are generally far more likely/women are less likely to interpret niceness as sexual interest.
There's a difference between "Volunteer for an organization of your choice for school" and "Volunteer for an organization of your school's choice." If it's a legitimate charity, let them volunteer.
Seriously! The internet should only be for people who are really into computers! That way only intelligent people would be online - you know, people whose activities I consider to be worthwhile. Then I wouldn't have to deal with idiots online! Yeah!
New! From the director who brought you Pearl Harbor and the screenwriter who brought you Catwoman! It's....your childhood being beaten with a baseball bat. Sigh.
Personal responsibility could conceivably be extended to justify murder, with "well, he didn't have a gun and didn't defend himself when I shot him dead, so it's his fault he's dead".
That's the most bizarre twisting of the phrase 'personal responsibility' I have ever heard. Bravo. Most sane people actually use it to mean standing behind your actions, not "you are responsible for everything that happens to you."
I believe that in conversation, people often emphasize the word 'OR' to mean 'XOR'. Most people haven't heard of 'XOR', but when they hear someone say "you can have A OR B" then that means they have to choose one. I suspect this notation/terminology was used in the book precisely because the target demographic wasn't programmers or engineers.
It counts number of divorces in a year versus number of marriages in a year. Thus if less people are getting married these days (as they are) it seems much higher than it should. But "half of all marriages end in divorce" is an easy thing to get stuck in your head;).
I think it'll be really interesting once the next 'big' CD comes out (a la Eminem's last CD). How many people are going to be 'waiting in line' for the Apple music store to be the first ones to download the tracks there?
I believe you can use demo levels and reconstruct a decent approximation of it. And if you're using some of the more comprehensive mods you might not even need any of the original textures and models outside those found in the demo.
I've had a total of 6-7 IBM HD failures over the course of my owning them (mostly the RMA'd drive I get back failing again). My old IBM 8 and 14GB drives are still going strong, but every other IBM drive I've owned has died (I don't put anything I want to keep on those drives, which kinda defeats the purpose of hard drives in the first place, no?)
Only 1 of my 8 Maxtors I've owned has ever died, so I like them now;).
Does 'enhanced' mean that they fixed the jitter in the video sources of Eva? One of my biggest disappointments with the DVDs before was the incredible amount of jitter just before/after scene changes. I found it incredibly distracting, especially on the (large number of) slowly panning scenes.
I played for a long time with trying to make digital copies without the jitter by using various stabilizing plugins for VirtualDub or other software, but to little avail (most were targeted at shaky-handed video camera operators).
If they've fixed the jitter I would really consider picking up this set; I've found Eva to be one of my favorite media ever, and usually try getting anyone who hasn't seen it to watch with me whenever I go through it again.

Last I'd heard it was 76%. Good to hear it's going down!

Probably 'What the Deuce' a la Stewie Griffin on Family Guy.
They don't want you to make "Beatles Radio" and then after one song finishes keep skipping until you hear another Beatles song.

oh wait...
nobody really likes Windows.
But the majority of people here on /. still use it...
Yoda says that about everyone. He said Luke was too old too.
The war of words is (and has been) over. You lost. Get over it.
They 'obfuscate' music you buy from their online store. Not music you already owned and ripped yourself. Big difference.

I've always been of the opinion that I'll trust my life to a Smart Gun as soon as all of law enforcement starts trusting theirs to them as well.

Seems to me that'd be a good reason to get rid of him; I suspect the others wanted X11 to be firmly entrenched in the 21st century ;)
Kinda scary loading up slashdot at work and seeing a headline that sounds like it's scolding you for not working....

Except that buying a new mouse just doesn't work on touchpads. With those you're stuck with just one button.

"You have 144 hours a week, no more, no less."
:P.
Wow, sucks to be you. I've been managing to squeeze about 168 hours of activities (including sleep) out of each of my weeks for most of my life
Oh they'll fail too.
