Its about time they got some real anime out there. First thing is Yu Yu Hakusho, now there is an anime that should have been out here long ago, instead we got Pokemon and Dragonballz >=P Outlaw Star is ok, but clearly its a ripoff of Cowboy Bebop which is excellent and could never be as good. I think Yu Yu will be the first real taste of some classically funny Japanese anime in all of its gag-filled glory. The next thing that needs to happen is to start importing subbed anime. It sounds soo much better when you can hear the voices of these actors in Japanese. The voices are so much more animated (no pun intended), and also help one learn a new language =p Ok, well thats it for now, i am happy about the new 4 hour block, i was up watching for 3 hours straight, i missed yu yu, cuz i didnt know about it till last night as i was channel surfing. hehe
Yes, Microsoft did confuse the two concepts of GPL and open source. Care to take a guess why? Because they know the average listener is not going to know the difference. And like any good political campaigner, Microsoft is not going after the truth here. They are going for perception and sometimes that's all you need.
Ahhh yes I came to the same conclusion too. Its nice to know that the Linux community is becoming more aware that MS is not as dumb as they thought. I feel a little more secure knowing that MS won't pull the wool over the eyes of the Linux community. Kudos to you all, errr well except to those dipsticks who still think MS people are a bunch of idiots.
"It's very clever of them," said Eric Raymond, president of the Open Source Initiative. "Instead of attacking the entire open-source movement they've singled out the one license that is in a sense politically controversial."
Good point, this is a simple divide and conquer technique. All I can say is solidarity is going to be important in the open-source/free software community in the coming years as MS will try to drive a wedge between the two.
What happened, look what we did, we reduced him to this! -to writing articles about some lame ass books! Its all your guys's fault!! Err and a lil me too ^^; hehe
I'm so sad *sniff* *sniff* Katz come back we won't make fun of you no more!!;_____________;
*fingers crossed behind his back*
Word to that my brotha. Jaron Lanier has the skills of a 6 year old visionary. I don't know how the hell he got on the Edge. Ah well, I do admit this though, he's got more visionary skills then most people on Slashdot, Jon Katz included. Oh well. If you want to see a true visonary, take a look at my website. Peace in the MiddleEast... heh
Yes I have been thinking about this problem for a while now and have managed to find simple solution. Sorry, I probably should have mentioned that I think that the patent system should stay in place for the Bio industry, but not because there is a fundamental flaw in my thinking that ideas should not be owned, but because the costs to get into the Bio-space game are so financially prohibative for Joe Scientist alone that getting rid of the patents to help Joe Scientist would be moot. This is not and has never been the case for the software industry, except for maybe in the mainframe days.
See in the software industry patents don't make sense because the little guy can compete with the big guy for very little cost. Any little guy can come up with the next killer app and make money, albeit indirectly in an IP-less world, but nevertheless make money (more on this on another occasion). But Joe Scientist stands no chance in hell of making a drug with just a couple of thousand dollars, much less make money off of it. You and I know that he needs a lab to even get off the ground floor. So because getting rid of patents in the Bio industry wouldn't help Joe Scientist to compete with the big bio companies anyway, there is no immediate benefit to getting rid of it in this industry. But let me stress this is only for the time being
What needs to be done is get rid of patents in phases according to how easy it is for the little guy to compete with the big guys in the industry.
Until it is as cheap for a scientist to create a drug as it is for a programmer to create a program, then I don't see any immediate need to get rid of patents in the Bio-industry. But that day will come and when it does we should get rid of patents in this industry as well.
Whether intentionally or not, I will own your mind because its my Manifest Destiny to do so under the corporate system. In other words, even if i come up with an idea you had last year, I can lay claims to it, because in my opinion you are not entitled to your own thoughts as long as I have more money than you, and I don't give a fuck if you think your mind should be free or not. Giving you your rights wouldn't make my wallet any fatter. As long as its legal for me to strip you of your thoughts, thinking for myself would only be half-assed and should not be supported.
Think about it this way, cloning should be allowed only if you are willing to live in a world, where besides for good things, cloned humans will be used for slavery (sexual, physical, mental), body parts and experimentation. I think the world is becoming more and more like Gibson's cyberpunk world. I could survive in such a world, but can you?
Whether intentionally or not, this scheme only serves to further legitimize the patent system. In other words, the more people find prior art, the more they are indirectly supporting the system of patents, which in my opinion is fundamentally flawed not because there aren't enough patent officers to search for prior art, but because all ideas should be free and they are not. BountyQuest doesnt do anything to address the latter. They're measures to fight patents is
half-assed and should not be supported.
As long as we have P2P the we don't need to worry that the internet can be controlled by "a few large corporations." I don't think the "masses" choose AOL because they want to, they do because they are not literate. Perhaps we need an education campaign to get people to venture outside these "walled gardens". Alghough, whether we have one or not won't matter in the end because all people venture out of the garden sooner or later.
I wouldn't trust companies claiming to advocate open source when their coffers are full of patents and trademarks. Thats not to say that all of them are, but the big ones are sure to be like IBM, Hewllett Packard etc. etc.,
First of all what you call racism is what I call elitism and it exists everywhere, its all over slashdot how ironic that you frequent this place. Most people who come from 3rd world countries had to work a hell of a lot harder than you did you moron, oh poor baby you lived in the ghetto, well there's tons of people from 3rd world countries that had to give their life savings to get a shot to live in the ghetto, YOU'RE already ahead... and not only that but these people have to put their faith on criminals to get them over here illegally in squalid conditions in cargo ships. Illegals sometimes are sold into prostitution and can't do a damn thing about it.. remember they can't even speak the language, YOUR ahead on this too. Once here you'll be lucky if you will find a job cleaning chicken entrails in Bumfuck, Delaware. Thats not the case for you, YOU can get something called a minimum wage they cant! Open your eyes man... your living in the land of opportunity, yeah maybe whites have it better, but do you think thats whats on the minds of foreigners, they don't give a rats ass about the white man, they just want it better than what they have, they WANT to live in YOUR ghetto.
Laws can be used for upholding justice, but they can also be used to royally screw people/companies over too. Microsoft has done its share of screwing people/companies over using the legal system and now theyre getting screwed by others using the same system... man thats a whole lot of screwing.
Hello McFlyyyy
The answer is, because the costs of distribution by the record labels has been reduced to zero because of the internet. I mean up to now music labels have been recording this stuff and shipping these cds out to us at music stores and there is a cost involved in that. Now cuz of the internet that cost is zero, they don't have to do any work. The system is now infinitely efficient because of technology.
someones homepage and then go look up books about the subject then start an x-part series and pull quotes from those books to seem like this is where you got your ideas from so you don't have to give credit to some rinky dink webpage where you would lose your credibility. Works nice for you, but what about the ones you really steal from... Oh did i say steal, hehe, oops, i didnt mean to say that.. I must be kidding or crazy anyway, this could never happen, a respectable writer wouldn't stoop to these lows.
If they hired you to teach him technology fine.. do whatever, but if you can teach him other stuff then I suggest you do that. Technology is useless without a vision. Teach him history and the theories behind capitalism, communism. Also teach him about war and what events led to the great wars. Teach him about the major religions Chirstianity, Muslim and Eastern religion. Give him your views on these subjects but let him know that you may be completely wrong and the only one who can decide which one is right is himself and then encourage him to do research to reach his own conclusions. With this foundation he could make a great man. Don't teach him technology that would be such a waste right now. I would teach him technology only after he has decided what his values are and what he would like to do about it. I think at that time you can suggest to him which technological fields would be best suited for reaching his goals
Either these guys want to track who is "interested" in these bug reports or they are just trying to siphon off bugtraqs users back to their sites. I condone what bugtraq is doing.
is because they are protected by the government. If trademarks were not protected by the law, each company could take on a variety of names instead of just one. Yes this may cause confusion at first becuase scumbag spammer types would use names that have nothing to do with the trademark but at the same time we would be making people more aware of the fact that this kind of thing may happen, and we could start an internet based blacklisting of individuals who are squatting or using names that are clearly meant to deceive the people.
Basically what I am saying is that we the people should be our own regulators. We don't need the government reulating what is legit or not, we the people are smart enough to do this thing on our own. Free intellectual property. Let the people decide what is a legitimate source of binary data over what is not. We are not kids anymore dammit, the government should give us this right. To not give us this right is an offense to our intelligence not to mention to the progress of the democratic world.
Granted that Im drunk right now, I still say that this is a load of shit. These guys are basically saying that you have no right to identify yourself a certain way because there was a lot of money invested in creating a certain brand name or a certain business like association to a name. Well fuck that, if these guys think that they can tell me what is a legitimate business over what is not, i say fuck that. We the people should be the ones who decide what is acceptable or not. We should have votes on who gets what name. If only a small sect of people are deciding for us, then what you really have is an ogilopoly, fuck that. Its for this reason, I urge people to start the Peer to Peer internet.. Thats the only way to secure our freedom and to create our own domain name system. Fight the power. oVer and Out bitch

I've been known to cuss when i speak with salespeople.
In my posts way back when, i predicted that MS would use Jackson's big blabber mouth against him and I was right. haha, What a fool, I pity him not.
- Its too damn slow
- Its bloated
- Moderation systems blow
- Ugly UI
Thats about it =)Maybe the justice department should look into this in their case against Microsoft.
