OK, Steve, either you're a) lying, and don't work for Escient, b) mis- or uninformed about the restrictions this places on developers and users alike, or c) stupid.
Since I have no reason to believe you don't work for who you say you do I'll have to discount a.
Since it's obvious that Escient wants to have their database as the exclusive source of CD information on the net, and should have gone to great pains to educate their employees as to their intentions before turning this loose on the world, and you would have had to fail to read the relevant portions of the license extracted here before you posted you reply, I will have to discount b as well.
Which leaves c.
Now, I doubt you're really an imbecile, since I haven't seen you at our meetings.
Please re-read the license, or at least the relevant portions that are here. We want to have the option of choice, the new license removes that from us. That's what we're all pissed off about.

With IBM behind Linux the FUD of "no support" has finally died a deserved horrible flaming death.
Good news for me, as Linux will now be taken seriously as an OS on the ol' resume. Bad news for my employer (the foolish NT heads), as my worth to them just shot past what they're willing to pay.
Linux has arrived, when my commitment is up, I am leaving.
And the worest part, the serial number makes it much easier to stop pirating.
So what you're saying is that Intel believes that the people who buy it's chips are pirates?
As a user of GPL'ed (and BSD, Artistic, etc) software, I strongly resent the accusation that I'm stealing copyrighted works. If I were to buy a PIII, that accusation would be present every time I used the computer. The serial number is still present whether that "feature" is turned off or not.
Can't get it here. We (NM) were on the list of planned rollouts until the day rollout arrived.
NM was removed and hasn't been on the list since.
Of course, they still don't seem to able to deploy ISDN in the state's second largest city, so why should they be any more competent when it comes to any other service.
The saddest part of all is that in the areas of the state served by GTE, xDSL is available and has been for some time.
I ignored Mr. Lewis' article at first, I figured it was just more FUD for the heap. Reading Kragen's reply caused me to read the "article" in question.
Mr. Lewis, it seems, it not as much interested in researching facts as he is in promoting his book. His inattention to detail is obvious. Misdirection, assumption, and outright misrepresentation are no way to present an analysis of anything. Mr. Lewis has just destroyed whatever credibility he may have had.
Oh great, another member of the thought police, telling someone else how they should act.
Rob's put a lot of time into/., trying to attract an audience with which to share the things he enjoys or thinks are important, and this is your response?
Some people just have no respect for someone else's work.
I had no formal training in any aspect of unix systems when I got my present job. I worked witht the guy who was doing the job and beat the heck out of Linux at home. When the incumbent left, I got the job, I later found out, because the guy they wanted to hire was only willing to work part time. That was August of '97.
Now I've gained a hell of a lot of experience with AIX and IRIX, and am moving into Solaris and Oracle. Both have been dropped on me in the last few months and I'm expected to maintain them anyways.
Bottom line, even if you think you you don't have a very good shot at an Admin job, apply! The worst that can happen is they say no.
Update: 03/08 01:15 by CT: Please stop sending resumes!
Hmmm... Why not start (yet another) resume and job opening listing service?
"Slashjobs, Jobs for Nerds, Pay that Matters"
Nevermind.

We're Escient, and we've purchased this wonderful user supported database of CD contents and other info and well...
We'd like to kill it.
We mean really rip it's heart out and leave it quivering on the floor as it gives out its death rasp.
If you would like to help us, just agree to our new license.

The latest version (0.50.3) is GNOME aware.

Video Xpression +
Note the + at the end, very different from the ATI Video Xpression, which is listed as working.
This particular baby chokes, pukes, and dies with the Mach64 server. IF it weren't for the SVGA server I'd have no X at all.
(I could use VGA16, but why?)

To sum it up, for NM, US Waste blows goats.
When there is no news, they'll have have to make some.
Can't wait for the IBM ads for Linux...

(Two guys sitting next to each other in cubes)
Guy one: (Shocked look) Blue screen, again?!
Guy two: (smiling) Bummer, my new desktop hasn't crashed since it came in.
Guy one: You got some kind of crash protector loaded on there?
Guy two: Oh, yeah. It's called Linux. (Walks off smiling)
(Cue standard IBM commercial piano music.)

Should get people's attention.
True, but knives are much quieter.
When will these be available to consumers?
I'm getting real tired of the neighbor's car stereo pumping after midnight. >:)

Pity the poor 'doze user, trying to defrag one of those monsters. :)
They forgot the banner that reads "Abandon all Hope, Ye Who Enter Here".
Pentium III, evil inside.
Not until they port SMIT and LVM over.
"Quick, I need a disk space fix! AAHHHHH! LVM."
