Sorry to nitpick, but too many people think the digital transition was all about HD, when it was in reality nothing to do with HD.
This would have a bit to do with the whole "HD's so good that the government's requiring all stations to switch to it by June 2009 so get your box now" commercials that used to be all over television.
The new class of having one from Apple, silly. Don't you know that everything Apple makes they invent? It doesn't matter if it was made before, it was people from the past using their time machines and looking into the future to rip off of Apple just to be mean to them. Apple is the only inventor that there is, silly.
The real problem is: developers and their customers are no longer free to make independent decisions about what is acceptable and unacceptable trade, and the people who are making the moral decisions were neither elected nor accountable for their actions!
Ah, but you see, the customer is free to make his own independent decision about what is acceptable and unacceptable trade. He is in the same way that he elects those who make the moral decisions. The customer elects by choosing to purchase, or not to purchase. If the customer doesn't purchase, new decisions must be made at apple.
Well, I can definitely tell you that I completely identify with almost everything you've said. Never thought of the smoking excuse. I have taken fictitious urgent phone calls though. For some reason, I always need to go to the bathroom first. Handy being able to set alarms on my phone using my ringtones.
I've noticed that many people here are saying that they hate Songbird, but I found it to be a very useful application. I liked the way that you could customize the interface with extensions. I also liked the fact that it had a web browser built into it. It was very convenient for looking up info about a song without having to launch a separate program. I'm really kinda sad that it never really took off, and I'll really be sad if the Linux version completely disappears. I just figured that I'd say that so that people reading this will know that songbird was not completely hated by all that have used it.
You young people with your mind-numbing spears. Back in my day we had to actually attack and kill our food with our bare hands. It took a bit longer, but we had our pride. You had to actually calculate how you were going to attack the beast and then it was a constant thought process to keep alive. And we liked it.
Now get off my lawn.
GNOME is a pretty decent desktop, but there is one thing that bugs me (and yes, KDE did it right): Backgrounds on multiple monitors. Why does GNOME think that when I plug an external monitor into my laptop I want my background to be stretched. I'd rather have my background be repeated across my screens like KDE and Windows do it. It's seriously annoying. GNOME developers, please get this right. I like your desktop but I want to be able to plug in an external screen and not have my background stretched.
We don't. We just need it for half of the internet (cause most webdevs don't know better).

yes
Presumably the Synaptic package gizmo does the same things, but I am far too cool for GUIs, so I don't know.
So... if you're too cool for GUIs, tell me, why are you using Google Chrome and not lynx or w3m?

Is Slashdot for corporate censorship, or against it. You lost me again.
Against. The GP mainly is pointing out the inconsistency of Apple's censorship.

There's a pdf download link on the right if you'd like to use that.
And yes, using flash to display documentation is pretty frickin' stupid.
Yes... it does. Problem solved, move on.
Somebody with mod points mod parent up! Insightful is currently what I'm thinking.
Interesting how your .sig matches your comment so well.
One of the things I actually love about our system, actually.
Redundant poster is redundant.

If your only computer is a netbook...
You're doin' it wrong!
But you don't need to have your only computer be a netbook if you want to check your balance outside of the house. For that, you still need a netbook.
Somebody set us up the star.
Although not quite in the same style, this idea's already been implemented.

Give me a break an' another cup of shut the fuck up. will'ya?
Okay. Here it is, just as you ordered:
Shut the fuck up AC.
xkcd really hit the nail on the head today.
Strange, one of my friends was hit on the head with a nail yesterday. XKCD IS TEH EBIL!!!
Mod this guy insightful. It's funny, but there is a serious need here.

Buy earbuds from the dollar store and everything will sound like crap. You won't be annoyed because the mp3 was encoded at 128 anymore.
Why do you need a physical hacksaw when there's an app for that?
