I am having a hard time understanding why people are even developing for the iPhone given the restrictions that Apple has put on it. Instead of complaining about it vote with your feet. Put your effort into something that isn't going to censor you.
What Word and other WSYWIG Wordprocessors lack is the ability to put your thoughts on paper without having to worry about what it will look like in the end. I use docbook to write technical papers at work. Each one of my papers has the same look when they are formatted. I am able to get my thoughts on paper without having to click 3 dozen menu items. I am not bothered by suggestions made by assistants that pop up. With Word I found myself more worried that a line might be orphaned or that the image is centered correctly. In other words Word and other Word Processors require too much knowledge from the end user.
Start with a simple language to learn the basics (Loops, variables ect.) Then let them explore. If they are truly interested in programming a new programmer will move to what interests them. I started with Basic went through the academics of Pascal. But I truly learned the most when I taught myself Forth and Smalltalk. Anyone interested in programming will find their own way.
The question should not be a general is linux ready for the desktop but we should ask the question "Is Linux ready for your desktop".
There is an assumption from Both Windows and Mac that it is possible to force a certain way of working on all users. Linux let's you pick and chose.
For me, I do not want to be forced to work a certain way. This makes Linux an ideal fit for me.
At this point does it really matter. For that matter there is no difference between political canidates. They are both just a couple of used car salesment
I never did understand how UAC works. On Linux I need a password to do admin type of work. This protects my box.
However on Vista I can walk up to an unattended box and run a program requiring admin priviledges just by clicking OK.
Oh wait, I get it. People who want to harm a box would never click OK.
Excellent Point,
I find it incredible how much of a good ol boy club the financial industry is. Politicians are members of this club.
America needs to recognize politicians for what they are, Just a bunch of dirty used car salesment.
The government does not like a $2 billion cost overrun and yet it give's $700 billion dollars to a bunch of morons who can't keep their business afloat.
There is a whole new breed of computer users. These are the ones who have realized that you don't need to spend alot to use the internet. These are the consumers that have purchased the gPC, the Asus laptops and the Psystar computers. The only mistake Psystar made was in offering the Apple OS to users. These make a great platform for linux. All I see coming from Microsoft and Apple is more eye candy not better products
This is sad. That kid should be rewarded for showing some intiative instead of being punished for not conforming to the rest of the crowd.
Too often in this M$ dominated standardized testing world the true thinkers are punished. The sheep are rewarded. No wonder we have a C average president
Open Source design - Programmer needs a feature and adds it. Chances are other programmers will need that feature too.
Pay for design - Marketer decides the tool needs Christmas tree lights around the edge. Marketer is not a programmer.
It is sad that the political parties are allowed to run the election process. In Ohio voters who switched parties were threatened with Lawsuits. Michigan and Florida had their primaries invalidated by the political parties. In many states you must declare a political affiliation which means your vote is no longer secret. Voters are assailed by people campaigning in the parking lots of polling places. Is it any wonder why people do not vote in this country
It's sad to see a technical company handed to a used car salesman (Ballmer). Soon M$ will implode from the overwelming ratio of sales people to developers.
The slashdot crowd is getting worse then windows Users. "It's not really a shell, It doesn't work like google", Reminds me of "But it doesn't look like windows". We should be thanking people for sharing their creative ideas with us.
By the way I love goosh
You also need to qualify your claim. What about it failed to work.
One thing I have found about linux and its different window managers is that you will get something that is almost but not completely unlike M$ Windows (Sorry to Douglas Adams).
This is what often appeals to the linux user but leaves the Window user scratching thier head.
"Variety is the spice of life"
Has anyone seen a CTOS system lately. A fully networked micro kernel that I think Unisys killed
I worked for an insurance company once. I have never met a more disgusting and dishonest group of people in my life.
Believe me when I say this if they can find a way to charge you more they will. That camera will be used for just that.

Actually it explains what happens to politician's brains the moment they hit Washington D.C

Don't worry, The insurance companies will just find another way to screw their customers.
Allow or cancel
Whats with that???
There, That should help them get funding. George please take note.

Apple does not want lower class computer users
It's been that way since Windows 1.0
Hmm Spoken like a true sheep. Are you a member of the Republicrate party.
Signed An Independent Vote. Independents think for themself

At one time the net was about free exchange of information. Now it's been preempted by a bunch of slime ball politicians.
BMF and Tesla were both true geniuses who were not afraid to fail. Show me someone today who has that quality.
