Guys, computers aren't new virgin territory anymore! We just want to get work done, not spend all of our time relearning your latest reimagining of the OS. It is beyond that now, it is all about the apps.
That's exactly the problem. Microsoft sells operating systems, but with the market having matured there just isn't that much innovation left in the desktop model. What bold new features are they adding along with Metro? "Windows to Go" and Live integration (or whatever they're calling it these days). Sounds like a LiveUSB with Gnome Online Accounts.
I can't quite remember the quote from Tron: Legacy, but early on the Encom CEO is asked what changed in the most recent version of their OS. His reply? "We made the number bigger", or something to that effect.
And that's a really that bad a thing, being constantly connected? Now I can understand someone not liking it if they wanted to play Diablo on a laptop without an internet connection...but gee I wouldn't want to play it with a trackpad anyway.
Not all service providers are created equal. My friend is stuck with Clearwire, which has ridiculous amounts of latency.
Native Linux ports would be greate, but not everyone is going to create a Linux port. Stardock doesn't plan on it (I asked about an hour ago).
I don't want two Steam clients; I'd appreciate it if the client is smart enough to download and run the Windows version if a port isn't available.
...if DNT is unenforceable, wouldn't "DNT by default" give certain entities an excuse to ignore the DNT flag by default?
Yes, but a certain competitor has a tendency to take the high road in these matters (or at least appear to do so). If Google honors DNT, then they lose out on data that their core business depends on. If they don't honor DNT, then +1 propaganda point for Microsoft.
Back when Firefox 4 was still in beta, I was on an ancient Dell laptop (10 GB HDD, 300ish Mhz). Chromium ran... well, it was a bit more sluggish than my desktop but it was still perfectly reasonable for such a weak machine. Firefox, on the other hand, took a solid few seconds of lag to do anything, from opening menus to clicking links to changing tabs.
They're selling the stuff on the Internet. It has no nationality and thus no laws - and thus no crime can be committed.
Like ScentCone said, the Internet is merely the way they receive an order. Would it be any different if the customer ordered by phone? Fax? Mail Order?
The court really does appear to have held that "liking" a post isn't speech with sufficient content to even count as speech in the first place...
They better fix this in the next election ballot then.

It's easy to tell the difference between 15, 25, 30, 60 fps in video games.
Hmm. I upgraded my graphics card a few months ago, upped all the Graphics options in StarCraft II, and that was that. Only just today did I notice that the FPS counter had jumped from 20 fps to 60 fps.
Versions count against your storage, trash counts against your storage, Google Docs files do not, shared files do not.
Strangely enough, revisions and Trash files still count against my physical drive's capacity, too.
It's not like they magically stop taking up space the instant they're no longer the "current" version, so I can't fault a service for continuing to count it against you.
No right-click menu in the desktop client...
Odd. There's a context menu in the web app.
No ability to name the Google Drive folder, only choose its location (the same as dropbox, but a lot of people were hoping for "pick any folder anywhere").
Bakeries across the state would have a problem. At least the ones that make cake...
It isn't Apple's real product. Microsoft makes Windows to sell Windows. Apple makes OSX to sell Macs.

Close enough that I've explained the Linux repository model to my gaming friends as "All your software on Steam"

"For only $7.99 a month."
Really? That's interesting to read, considering I was able to try out Cinnamon by adding the LMDE repo to my Debian machine and install it just fine.
So... it can't upgrade itself, but it is binary compatible with an upstream project. o_O
And so is the Diablo 3 digital distribution.

Debian testing's iceweasel is on...hold on one sec... 10.
10?! That can't be right. How many versions of Firef...oh, 12.
Ubuntu LTS to LTS is typically a longer life cycle than Debian Stable to Debian Stable. And both are derived from Debian Testing.
Actually, Ubuntu draws from unstable. And then they add their own stuff, such as Unity.
Good election to vote for that ficus on Slashdot's poll 4 years ago.

I wonder if Valve can include Wine integration; allow the Linux client to download the Windows-only games and launch them through Wine.

Meh. Shortcuts and ls should fill the gap.
Android and iOS apps - no Blackberry app yet.
Or Linux.
But as usual with Greenpeace, it's 99% bullshit believed by no one except the Greenpeace faithful.
No one? I doubt that. I'm fairly certain I could convince many people I know.
But I'm also pretty sure none of them would care.

I concur; no need to be inhumane about this. But we can't overlook the grave nature of his crime. I recommend a year of POTS, with chance of parole.
