They were the most popular online service although there may have been one or two others. If you had a Commodore 64, an Apple IIe, or any of the various computers of the day, and you had a modem, you were good to go. It was expensive though, and relatively few people were on it, but it was pretty cool at the time.
He actually WANTS high energy prices (including gasoline). The videos are out there and his energy secretary told Congress as recently as yesterday that they are NOT interested in lower gas prices for us peasants.
Imagine being sued for writing something similar to what someone else wrote say, 1000, 4000, or 10,000 years ago. Pick your timeframe, it doesn't matter. It would be impossible for anyone to do enough research to make sure their work hasn't already, at some point in history, been done by someone else. As Soloman said, "Nothing is truly new under the sun."
Exactly what I was thinking. To say the the article is lacking in detail is an understatment. All transistors have 3 parts: base, emitter, collector (or source, gate, and drain with FETs, etc). Clearly, this cannot be accomplished with ONE ATOM.
Also, transistors don't store anything (as in binary 1 for on (charged) and 0 for off (discharged)). That would be a capacitor. Transistors can be used to charge or discharge capacitors, but they do not store energy.
Only problem with your argument is that rural areas ARE well-served. I can't recall the last time my phone registered "no signal", even in the most desolate of places. I know two people who are on SS disability and both have a cell phone. Hell, who DOESN'T have a cell phone nowadays?
Same here. Been using Hotmail since 1998 and I've noticed the spam has decreased quite a bit over the years. Nowadays I might get 1 or 2 a day and they're almost always in the bulk mail folder.
Perhaps they can use that money to build out their infrastructure. Build it to the point where they can actually deliver on unlimited smartphone data plans and watch the customer count soar as people flee other carriers that can't keep up. Seems like a smart business decision to me.
If the currently allocated bandwidth has proven to cause interference to other services, pick a different band of frequencies to use. They'll have to modify their equipment and I'm sure that will be expensive but if they have the capital to do it, I wouldn't rule them dead just yet.
Do you ever watch Fox News? They do actually present both sides of political arguments. All the others: ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and most newspapers are heavily biased to the left and they always have been. Liberals hate Fox because they actually DO give voice to conservative views.
Most/. readers are liberals too. This post will likely be modded down to 0, if not -1, proving my point.
Exactly. This whole meme of "OMG, FB is selling your info!!!" nonsense is getting old.
Facebook shares ONLY WHAT YOU INSTRUCT THEM TO SHARE. What you want to be kept private (or semi-private, as between you and your friends) is kept private.
The above reference about the post office can also be made about the phone company. Connect home phone service and guess what? Your name, address, and phone # are published in a BOOK (called a telephone directory) that gets sent to tTHOUSANDS of people. OMG!!
The pretense behind this study seems rather shallow. "Social media" is really nothing more than a way for people to keep in touch with friends and family. I can go to ONE website and see how my daughter, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends are doing. It's very convenient. And yes, I check it throughout the day. If that's an "addiction", it's a pretty good one to have.
An advertising medium that reaches 10% of the world's population? (People who have money, mind you. At least enough to connect to the internet). I can't think of any other company (except Google) that has that kind of reach. I believe their IPO was $75/share.
There are far more scientists who say there is no such thing as man-made global warming than there are who say there is. The indisputable fact remains: Earth has warmed in the past, it has also cooled. It's natural. The Sahara desert was once teaming with wildlife and forests. Climates change. It's normal and there's nothing we can do one way or the other to affect it.
The article doesn't say, but I suspect the computer is Raspberry Pi. Throw in a cellphone-based modem, camera, and microphone and you've got yourself a spy.

Is it impossible to code a flash-compatible player that can run on iDevices?
"They are presidents. Not dictators able to rule by decree."
Tell that to Obama. He didn't get the memo.
I could have really gone for something like this about 20 years ago.

And Apple will sue them for it.

15 TONS of crank turned up last week in what may be the largest bust ever.

As a side note, Adderall is HIGHLY over-prescribed. Most kids are hyper and have short attention spans - it's part of being a kid.

As recently discussed here on /., AT&T is about to cash in big by shedding un-needed real estate.

Not just your computer, but any appliance big brother doesn't think you should have on.
Wow! That's like, FIVE WHOLE CENTS A DAY!
Tell Google to get bent. When they're offering $25/mo, we'll talk.
Jury sends Doyle packing!

He signed it months ago, as a matter of fact. Before all the publicity surrounding SOPA and PIPA.
He's been doing a lot of that lately, ignoring the Constitution.

Then maybe you need to either:
1. partner with the schools to make sure they are producing students who do have the skillsets you demand
or
2. hire people who can be trained in your particular field and then go ahead and train them.
If neither of the above work for you, then you're SOL.
