  2. Re:Was Jesus a liberal? on Biases in Simulation Video Games · · Score: 1

Thats the funny part. The earliest Gospel does not have Jesus claiming to be God. He claims to be son of God, but then he uses family oriented words to refer to God and believers... in other words, all men who believe are sons of God. Their sisters are female believers, etc.

"Christ" also does not mean God. In fact, it is a Greek transliteration of "Messiah", which means "God's annointed". Again, not the same thing as God, and in fact there are other people in the bible referred to as Christ aka Messiah aka God's annointed. Similarly, there are other people in the bible explicitly referred to as the son of God.

Furthermore, Jesus professed to give to the poor, to be kind to minorities (good samaritan), forgiveness, pacifism, and many other things associated with liberals.

Anyway, could somebody please show me where in the synoptic Gospels, i.e. Mark, Matt, and Luke, that Jesus claims to be God? The parent post got it right, the Jesus is God bit is very similar to Mary Magdelen is a whore bit. Its not in the bible and was invented later.

  4. Installing software on Linux is not hard. on A Glimpse at the Linux Desktop of the Future · · Score: 1

Smart Package Manager makes installing, updating, and removing software easy. It subsumes deb, rpm, apt, apt-rpm, yum, etc, and even lets you use multiple application repositories even if they are in different formats (apt-rpm, deb, yum, etc). Really, installing software can be as easy as searching for what you want in Smart's GUI and then selecting what you want to install. Removing an application is similarly easy, and updating is even easier!

Smart also has a commandline _and_ GUI interface, so you can use whatever interface you like best, unlike yum. It also allows for prioritizing package repositories so that you can make use of any repository you want and leave overlaps/conflict resolution up to smart.

I am using it under Fedora Core 4. It is still beta, so it has a few cosmetic bugs, but otherwise it works nicely. If you are using Fedora Core 4 and want to try it out, you can, even if you are already using yum or apt, as Smart can be used alongside other managers.

  7. Just like soft-modding the Xbox on Swapless PSP Exploit Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

I said in the previous PSP Exploit article that it will be just like soft-modding the Xbox (modding without a mod-chip). At first it will only support a few versions of the PSP and it will be very un-userfriendly. But as time goes on, the soft-mod (i.e. "exploit) will improve and eventually support all versions and will be userfriendly. Why is it this way? The Xbox is already at this level, and since it can be found for cheap, it is worth picking up just to hack, run media players on as well as emulators.

The same will be true for the PSP.

  8. Re:Look to the Xbox. on Sony PSP 1.50 Swap Trick · · Score: 1

The UXE Installer is the soft-modding tool. You will need one of a few select games that is exploitable, but you can just rent, borrow, or buy used the game. The EEE Installer is installed ontop of UXE, and it basically lets you toggle between a modded and unmodded state, without the use of the exploitable game used to install UXE. This is useful because you need to be in an unmodded state to go on Xbox Live. You can't find the binaries at those links, but if you poke around starting with those links, you can get the binaries pretty easily.

I am using an older version of UXE called UDE. I can toggle between modded and unmodded, but to go back to modded, I need one of the exploitable games. Since I bought the game used for $15, I don't care to upgrade to a better soft-mod right now. Though eventually I will.

  9. Look to the Xbox. on Sony PSP 1.50 Swap Trick · · Score: 4, Informative

If I learned anything from the Xbox, it is that once there is even the slightest soft-mod, no matter how hacky and contrived it is and even if it just supports one or two versions of the console, as time goes on, it will become less hacky, more user-friendly, and support more versions. There is currently a soft-mod for the Xbox that is in every way as good as a modchip. It supports all versions of the Xbox, it is easy to install, it is easy to uninstall, and it even has a toggle for putting the Xbox into and out of a modded state, so you can go on Xbox Live.

What I am trying to say is that if there is even a tiny little crack that allows for soft-modding a PSP, people will push and push until the mod is so easy to install and so full featured, that your PSP will effectively be able to run any binaries you wish, with no hassle.

It will take allot of time though. A word of wisdom: if the Xbox drops in price to $99 or cheaper, buy at least one. It will be worth it even if there isn't a single official Xbox game you care to play. The homebrew software makes the Xbox a must own, IMO. The media players and emulators alone make it worth $99.

  10. I had a similar experience. on Spy Girl In Game Stores · · Score: 1

I had a similar experience when I went to buy an N-Gage QD at Gamestop. The price had dropped (to $99) on this second revision of the much hated N-Gage. This new revision fixed allot of the issues with the old, and I wanted to get a phone with more than 2 built in games. A little internet research showed that the N-Gage QD could play mp3s and xvid movies off of standard MMC flash cards, and even better, it emulated various gaming systems such as NES, SNES, and Gameboy Color.

So I figured that it was a good upgrade to my current mobile phone, went to Gamestop to buy it, and the clerks there gave me the most crap I have ever gotten FOR TRYING TO BUY SOMETHING FROM THEM! You'd figure somebody would try to make a sale, not discourage a sale. In a disgusted tone, one clerk asked me why the hell I would want an N-Gage. I replied that I just wanted a phone that can play MP3s, movies, and Gameboy games so that it can replace my current ipod, phone, and gameboy.

The guy looked at me as if I were crazy, and asked "what do you mean", in a tone implying that I am technologically illiterate and the N-Gage can't do that. I realize that you can't know everything about all of the products you sell, but if you don't know anything about the product, don't try to tell the customer that they shouldn't buy it and don't treat them like an idiot for doing so.

The GBA and N-Gage have been able to do this for a while now, in addition to being able to emulate other classic consoles. But I guess the PSP still has hype. Eventually people will realize that it doesn't make for a practical portable, the hype will die down, and they will release that if they just play it around the house, then maybe they should just play their full sized console on a full sized TV.
