I know this is slightly offtopic, but who else noticed that it reads "WIndows 7" instead of "Windows 7" in the headline? (At the time I am writing this)
I want to know this because I suspect I might have a superpower.
Stay in the UK. Its YOUR fucking country, damn it.
It is not. It is a random place on earth where he was born. He didn't choose to be there, he doesn't have any obligation to stay there and no obligation to the people who want to make his life miserable. By choosing to move to a better country with more freedoms, being a productive member of a free society and contributing to the prosperity of a better country, he supports freedom.
And listen to music. It amazes me that I, a linux user with 6 years of experience, cannot find a decent music player for linux that is as simple and straightforward as foobar2000 for windows. There are dozens of MPD frontends, iTunes clones and too many winamp clones, but they are all either complicated or crashy or bloated
Technically, you're right. Practically, cars waste such vast amounts of energy that the energy drain for this thing (about equivalent to driving over a small bump) probably couldn't even be measured.
Why is this rated funny? Like it or not, flash still is the best plugin that works consistently on most browsers and platforms, and allows for playing video.
I know there was streaming video before, and there still is - RealPlayer, WMF and half a dozen other alternatives, with better quality and performance. But guess what - they either don't work or they are a nightmare to install and use.
They also lack some of the features that flash offers, like creating a shiny, easily recognizable interface and some interactive content for the video.
If there was something better, youtube would have switched already.
Adaptations of Philip K Dick books are notorious for being put in development hell. Scanner Darkly, IIRC, went through several attempted treatments before we got the rotoscoped version. And there's been attempts off and on to bring us Ubik on the big screen, though the last I heard of that was a few years ago and it was just being written.
Dick even wrote the screenplay for Ubik himself - though it probably won't be used.
Dizzy: My mother always told me that violence doesn't solve anything. Jean Rasczak: Really? I wonder what the city founders of Hiroshima would have to say about that. [to Carmen] Jean Rasczak: You. Carmen: They wouldn't say anything. Hiroshima was destroyed. Jean Rasczak: Correct. Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst.
This article says that the average user is costing google about a dollar a day. Now I don't know if the article and the numbers are correct, but they don't seem that far fetched.
For the truely heinous stuff like that shake a baby to death iPhone app that was in the news lately, existing laws should be brought to bear if applicable.
fuck it.
Damn it first link should be this one.
Nice to see that PETA is already all over this.

They even have their own vision of insect disposal.
I wonder if they target antibacterial soap and penicillin next...
Indeed. Globalisation makes source material cheaper for companies and end-products more expensive for consumers
You are very wrong.

Vote with your feet.
HTML5 is the new graphics toolkit.

Yeah I know I should write one myself...
Would mod you insightful if I had points. Instead I provide the link to the article you quote
FTA:
I'm sending [Google Book Search] my fruit-basket today. How about you?
I think you're full of shit.
Technically, you're right. Practically, cars waste such vast amounts of energy that the energy drain for this thing (about equivalent to driving over a small bump) probably couldn't even be measured.
Not only can it be measured, it can be harvested.
Use both. I used Fortran to create some python modules at my last job, and it was dead easy. Take a look at this.
This. Blame someone or something else.
Also smile often and be friendly (doesn't come up here often)
... I thought they were the interweb socialism?
I wonder how North Korean Slashdot readers would respond to that.
Oh, wait..
I keep hearing this as if it was an oft-tested and consensus-supported theory rather than speculation / topic land-grab / brainfart by Dennett.
I think you mean Penrose rather than Dennett .
I wouldn't do that. No matter how much you want to help, it's probably not a good idea to steal or damage other peoples property.
Flash players eliminate the local cache
What is the growing red bar that appears on youtube when I hit pause? A thermometer?

I tried this once and never came very far - can you give me a few 'pointers' on where to find resources and websites that explain these techniques?
No Google toolbar and some other important plug ins.
*Every* toolbar in chrome is a google toolbar
Reminds me of this:

To gp: Yes.
