During coffee season most of the coffee is sold to trucks that go around and generally end up at some large processing plant. my grandfather typically would leave a smole portion for home use. the process is as follows.
1.)
the coffee would be placed in a mortor with water and 'chumed' basically squished around until the fleshy part of the fruit has been removed. (The fruit is actually quite sweet)
2.)
the coffee is then layed out on large concrete surfaces to dry for a few days. after drying it is then 'tharshed' in the wind to blow away the dried of particles leaving only the bean which has a brownish grayish color. This is then stored as it keep pretty well
3.)
every now and again my grandfather would then 'parch' (roast) the coffee in a big cast iron pot looking almost like a coldron stiring it with a ladel. For coffee lovers this is about as close as you come to heaven.
4.)
the parched coffee is then ground usually to avery powdery concistence.
5.)
now keep in mind in jamaica your nto rich and in the case of my grandfather there was no electricity at thier house. so he had a tall metal thrumos of sorts which he would put the grounds in then he would pure boiling hot water on top then cover it. after all the ground settled then the coffee was poured off the top to a big old waiting 'mug' which was basically an enamel coffee cup.
But in my office I can only get them to buy folgers and or yuban. Every now and again when someone comes from Jamaica they bring me some of teh good stuff. The point here isnt' the most espensive cup of coffee but just a good cup of coffee. If that was the case jsut go down to Starbucks or your local java joinr.
Dont forget the huuuuuuuuuge deficit due to war time spending. War time spending which is not generating jobs, but in fact reducing them. Public agencies accross the country are actually laynig people of. Social Service programs being cut. Just so Bush can say saddam is hiding in a Rat hole. When Benladen(sp) is still sending out tapes on a monthly basis.
I recall there being a Holiday Inn off the 91 freeway in hartford CT. During Christmas they woudl place lights in the windows to form christmas trees and other simple graphics. I even remember once when the Patriots were to move to hartford I drove by and it spelled out NFL. i'm sure ofcourse it's all l manually done but cool none the less.
How many times have technologies, Ideas, Concepts been introduced with the premis that it will not be used in ways other than those stated. Then boom new party, new legislation and new use. Example the Homeland Security Act. I think municipalites should be liable for incorrect use of intended resourses. E-ZPass systems are intended for electronic Toll Booths therefore that is what it should be used for anything else should be deemed as abuse !!
According to his map he flew right over one of our offices (Inglewood). It does seem enticing to stick an antenna out on the terrace and see what comes up. Especially since VPN traffic seems to be eating up mos of our T-1 these days.
on a side note I recently enquired at a major computer store. one which right now is advertising free set up. And talkign to the tech he assured me that all I had to do to set up a wireless network was plug it in. Now with things like nimda, Cade Red and such with the advent of everyoen goign wireless at home and not either encryting there connections or passwording it off. hackers/script kiddies will have a field day with this. I jus tpull up to some pure schmucks house log in launch and attack then drive off and the feds would never find me.
Did anyone else in the LA area start drooling. I'm sure if I put an antenna out on my terrace, i'm sorry 3'x5' deck I can probable get some free bandwidth. I just wish he included a signal map that way I know which way to point the damn thing.
Talk about flash back..... remembering the days of logging on to my colleges VAX with my old 2400 baud modem and using kermit to download files. then I also remember swtching to Zmodem which was alot better. no more of that ASCII crap.
after driving through utah I woudl say it's abotu the onl place desolate enough and rid of any disturbance be it microwave or otherwise. My cell phone was dead for about 2/3 of the drive. I think it's teh I80 or I70 or I76 no exits no trees no cars nothing just rocks.
with all due respect, the childrens mom worked in social services for many years dealing with abused children. my friend if you had any idea the lenths a pedifile will go to, to talk to and get to know your minor yo uwould be surprised. Me well i've been using the net since the days or prodigy bulliten boards. I know the trash that is out there. In this case I am not being nieve i'm being knowledgable. If I wont allow my children to tal to strangers on the street how is the internet any differnt.
At first read I found this laughable but after a bit of thought I see a rekindling of an already occurring problem. Children will always be children, they will always be immature, they will always be impressionable. The problem herein is parents. I have a 10yo, and 11yo. They do not go on the internet without permission and they conduct themselves as we dictate. No chat rooms, no e-mails from anyone we dont already know. The parents of all there friends form a network with us via e-mail and the children are aware of this. They also respect it understanding the inherent dangers of the internet. Using yahoo parental controls anyone sending them e-mails with profanities or pre flagged words gets reported to us. If the account they are using is linked to a parental account reporting it to the parent is easy. So before someone starts blaming the internet look to the Parents.
I work for an architecture firm that handles airport noise mitigation projects. and I'ved worked with several municipalities with regards to differnt programs accross the country. The majority of these programs are federally funded. I recently saw a job opening for a program director assistant type position paying over 80k a year. For someone not knowing the real requirments of the Job it may sound intence but the job is so easy and so useless. It blows my mind to see how over paid public servants are in the US it is crazy. Not only that but how many uneccessary jobs are created in adminitrative positions. Another area is State education systems and the amount of money paid to administrative professionals when teachers are in short supply and classrooms are under equipped.
The Telcos own all the fiber in the ground anyways. Just instead of charging them for voice it will all be Data. But you bring up a good point. I wouldn't be surprise if telcos start lobbying for tarrifs on VoIP. like they did when the interenet started getting popular.
Unless you can touch, feel, smell the interet this will never happen. The mall is a place where people meet, relax window shop. THough I agree the person who knows what he or she wants will purchase stuff on the web. The teenager who wants a new set of capris will always liek teh option of trying them on seeing how they look and being critiqued by there friend and the cute guy who works there.
like pretty much all new linux users i started with Redhat Box Set then later switched to SuSE because their hardware support was much better. I tought myself on SuSE and have thus reccommended it's use on all our servers and firewalls at work. We buy our packages outright and we dont pay any extra for the update service. Though Redhat has become the benchmark I don't believe it is the best product out there.
I think they said the same thing about Hubble after it's little mishap. But after the first in focus images came back I don't belive there was a single critic who voiced a negitive opinion. Truth is space is deemed an accumplishment by man. We all by instinct are driven to survive and procreate. However Space exploration is like that one accumplishment that has a mesure of honor about it. and yes I know about the starving children in africa.... when was the last time yo made a donation.
``the continued degradation'' of the environmental monitoring and health maintenance systems and exercise equipment vital to the astronauts' well being."
Does this mean they are getting bald spots on there tread mills ?
At first glance I didn't really think much of this.... but ooooo wouldn' I love to put a tag on those little buggers new airwalks so next time they skip school or are late on their kerphew(sp) I can zero in on there ass.
I see no difference between this and your fingerprint. It's your personal identity based on your unique physiological characteristics. When I received a passport/drivers license it went on record. Also to my knowledge when has the military ever respected service men/women?s rights. My friend has been out of the navy for over a year and they still have the right to recall his ass.
In many sences your correct but I disagree. In many third world coutries the cost of living is a fraction of that of the US. Here we have $30,000 cars, we pay $1,800 a month for rent. In the Sudan.. you can live on that $1800 a month in lavish. I grew up in Jamaica and compared to now my expenditure is a fraction of what it is now. No I dont think everyone should have a nice car and expensive houses. Health insurance yes, education yes. But in the US what we spend the big bucks for is wants and not needs.
ode to teh anal retentive personalities. Anyone who has had a one and one with his VP, will realize the guy doesn't give a flying f*** about dotting your "I"s and crossing your "T"s. Every project has a budget, and your job as a project manager is to complete this project on time and within budget. I program but my profession is a Job Captain in an architecture firm. I'm good at what I do because I dont waste time arguing ethics. I figure out what the best job I can do with the time frame I have then I do it. If I feel that the time frame or budget is unreasonable I explain this. However there will always be someone else who will take the project and make it work. So the moral of the story.... get the job done just document everything and get yoru boss's signiture that way when the shit hits the fan yoru ass is covered
there are quite a few laws governing any sort of braodcast, but there is no one to police it. and If you did get cought a US $50 would paysomeone off. I know this sounds bad but it's true. Most third world contries dont have the ifrastructure to manage stuff like this. So why do they make such laws to gouge anyone who tries to do something that woudl better the community.
I think the point with hypersonic bombers as opposed to ICBMs is 1.) they are reusable... ICBM's are not, and if I'm not mistaken these are the type that skim the atmosphere to get oxygen then benefits from no resistance of space thus making them more fuel efficient

ok my grandfather used to be a coffee farmer in jamaica so i'm an expert.
The ultimate cup of coffee recipe
Blend a nice dark Roast like Yuban with the light flavor of something like Folgers or my favorite Jamaican blue mountain.
use two filters as the slower straining process allows more flavor.
use one very very big heaping spoon for each cup.
remove the glass thingy (carraffe) and allow the coffee brew to almost fill the part of the coffee machine with the coffee grounds.
Take your mug and put it in place of the carraffe and let the liquid mana fil your cup.
add a pinch of salt, then sweeten to your preference.
put the carraffe back so everyone else can enjoy.
