We did this all the time in our CAD labs and Structural Systems lab class. Where ever you were on campus we could log into our vax acount then intern log unto IRC, or e-mail. One teacher had a system of walking around the classroom then reading peoples e-mail out loud. It was pretty funny when one girls crush became public as she desperately tried turning off her monitor.
First of all know one completely understands a gene strand. ok lets say we have our cool glowing fish soon to be the next pet must have. first of all in new enviroonments they will evolve. in a natrual environment they will evolve even more. Who says these things wont develope stingers. What happens when kids start releasing these things into the ocean and they start growing and adapting. People need to learn that implimentation and experiementation are two completely different things. pretty soon we will have the pet version of three mild island.
first off, why has someone no looked into revamping the system by which we organize the net. Quite frankly with the emphaisis on internet business a domain or address is more important than realestate. Internet real estate should be treated and documented with the same ferver and detail as real estate.
I worked for a 4 man tech support crew once.. you heard me 4 man, well two women included. The company was an international sign and graphics firm. we were averaging about 30 calls resolved a day with a call queue that went up to 200 at some points. well we griped moaned complained. I even had a chance to talk one on one with some VP's. The result.... the manager installed a scrolling counter that showed who was taking the most calls. the result instead of taking the time to answer custumer questions you woudl tell them to reboo then call back. I've long since left the company and am quite happy in my new job. my cronies who I once plotted with are still working watching the score board. My advice is find a new job, there are many companies out there that will treat you like gold.
model as in a concept. not a physical model. ie if you're submitting an idea for say a clock for a patent you cant' just say. a device that tells time. you should have a model/concept/theory that shows how that device will tell time. and yes I believe it should be technically sound.
I'm an aspiring inventor. I've thought up some fairly useful ideas some having a market share so large the potential is inconceivable. However I have enough of a hard time taking care of my family much less hiring a patent lawyer. I've taken advice from everyone in the book including several/. articles in the past. So it really infuriates me to see people abusing the system. The idea that someone can patent a hypothetical concept infuriates me. I say if you do not have the technical capability to show a working model of sound theory in detail there should be no patent award. I remember doing research on patents done in the 17 hundreds and was impressed with how many models, and drawings there are. On the flip side I recently saw the patent for the guy who claims he invented online auctions. The patents basically stated a system to use computers to manage a bidding process. Thatâ(TM)s it. I say if you cant' at least come up with a flowchart showing the details of your concept you should not waist peoples type making the patent office a glutinous waste of paper.
Try maintaining a satilite uplink while there is a sand storm going on and your com base is somewhere in norfolk virginia, and 500 miles out to sea. Not only that try following network cabling from a bunker to satilite uplink stations.
I still can't get over them refering them as chat rooms. Shouldnt' it be Armed Forces Comm Relay Applettes or something. Chat rooms seem so yesterday

I'm sure they must have covered this in a few episodes. I saw a show on TLC about racing riding lawn mowers at speeds up to 50 mph.
Whenever I look at the entries for this competition I can't help but wonder why they all have this sci fi look to them. ie something out of start trek. I always have this image of some guy of a err more feminine persuasion flailing his hands and going " it justht doesnt look spathy enough.... more spathy people...."
Is anyone else a bit dissappointed that the focus on games seems to be the rendering engine and the color depth and frame rates. Doom/Quake sorta started all the emphasis on 3d graphics. I miss the old days of plain old gameplay. Games such as Zelda, Everquest, civilization really are the pinnacle of gaming for me. I like everyone else used to stay at work late so we could have a lan party playing doom, and quake CTF and download the latest patches and maps. However the concept has not changed since day one. shoot everything that moves. make a team and shoot everyone that moves. I think it's time the game concept and story line be updated.
Well, fairly simple. Many applications are married to Windows. In a typical small firm it is wise to use all the same apps. Doesnt' make sence to have your graphic guys on OSX, your engineers on UNIX (yea i know OSX is unix) and your cad guys on MS. MS is really the only unifying OS. Prior you could use ALPHA processours but MS no longer supports that. So what do we do now.
I dont think home users make a good example of users. I consult primarily with engineering, architectural and graphics firms. Programs like AutoCAD, Revit, 3DStudio, Photoshop and a bunch of number crunching engineering apps i've never heard of. All of which are dying to use 64 bit systems. not only that more and more applications are using a more complex and demanding UI. Have you used word or excell lately ?
Once I used my clout as tech support rep, and software tester to test a game. I think it was called MAX something. it was a real time stratagy game. They required 4 hours game play every day, then you had to submit a journal daily. On top of that you had to log unto a chat room to share with the developers. I got cut after about the forth revision. There was so much compition to impress the developers with your input. It is actually much like slashdot and trying to earn karma.
We just purchased 6 Dell Latitudes where I work for field work (architectural). We chose them after much research on durability, continuity, stability. So far they are doing a very good job. It would be nice to see this display adopted into the Latitude series. For someone who does graphics, animation, CAD, etc this would serve as excellent work at home or field systems. Funny enough the reason we didn't choose an I book. was because you said it lack of compatbility with existing apps. AutoCAD, 3D Studio, Revit, etc.
Am I the only one wondering why there was no redundancy. As in effective. One would think something as important as airtraffic control should have several layers of complete redundancy. As in if a control tower has say a catastrophic failure there is another a.) civilian b.) military control center able to hand off instructions. which would include all flight information. including passengers, cargo flight log, flight plan everything.
I'm the admin at an architecture firm who utalizes Allegiences services. In all three of our offices they drop a T1 which is split phone and Data. 6 lines, and 500K both ways 16 IP's for about $600 US per office per month. No other company comes even close to this deal. Including our local phone company. I am sure we are not alone on this but companies like Allegience have provided small bussinesses with an excellent communications life line with regards to voice and data. Until Baby bells gear up and start providing T1 type services for competitive costs the FCC I hope really shouldn't choke off smaller companies.
Growing up in jamaica TV wasn't a commodity as it is today in the US. I remember spending weekend at our grand parents who didn't have electricity and all they had was an old radio. On sunday nights we would all listen to an english drama called the 'clithero kid' a sort of dennis the menice type deal. Not ony that they had day time radio drama's much like soap operas. That I must admit were very interesting. When I see shallow kids show's such as mighty morphing power rangers and well pick any big boob cop, warrior princess show they lack the depth of story that radio dramas have. All you need is a expressive actor and an old organ in teh back ground.

Well since it's slashdotted let me describe it for everyone. it looks like the picture they took from the moon only

For a second I thought this meant all my friends with dialers would start calling me long distance. I hated that every five minutes.
please insert more money
hang on dude (holding dialer to hand set)
waiting as dialer mimics the sound of one quarter at a time

Though not intentional but shouldn't the 'war of the worlds' radio broad cast by orson wells be listed ?
Historically speaking this makes it an upgrade
Damn kick them while they are down. First a DoS from script kiddies, then the slashdot effect.

I got suckered in like you it lasted two months until I got tired of getting hit on by old house wifes.
Though the worst experience i've heard was being shipped across the country to sell books door to door.
