    I think it's viable if properly implemented( ie not politically of economically motivated ala challenger launch).

    a.) The farms would have to distributed to allow redundancy.

    b.) This would be an excellent application for nano tube super conductors. It would also require significant shielding.

    c.) It would also have to be on a computer controlled redundant grid.

    I keep thinking of the power lines in the matrix.

    we're essentially saying the same thing ie earthquakes release tension in the system. In this case the damn may have been a catalyst. In one sense it may have allowed the tension to be released as opposed to continuing to build up and have a catastrophic earthquake 100 years from now.

    If I understand correctly you are better of with many small earthquakes, as opposed to one huge one.

    true, yes the damn may have caused the earthquake, but the proper way to look at it is the earthquake brought the geology back to a neutral point. so technically they should be in a good place.

    plus the fact the damn did not fail, says it was built properly.

    fact is apple needs a successor. Steve may not be dead, but he is ill and I'm sure tired. Apple will fail again unless it either changes it's culture and assumes a new product strategy.

    or b.) they find someone as intuitive, and charismatic as Steve. This will take time and Steve's illness has reminded everyone he isn't a god, and a time will come where he is no longer willing or able to rule.

    I think many unmanned planes have a reprogrammed which I would assume is flay to way point a.) capture surveillance, prioritize targets and await further instructions. If no instruction proceed to way point two .. wash and repeat.

    Then when a list of targets are inquired central command forwards a revised target list and firing solution. so latency may not be as much of a problem as one would think.

    why bring back the risk of meltdown/contamination. This can be achieved using solar and wind. same distributed concept. Just instead of a power cell you have a house covered with solar panels or a wind generator.

    Yes this wont' work everywhere but it is viable in many high demand locations ergo Southern California.

    actually the sub doesn't have to go that low. It just needs to drop a magnetic resonance listening device next to the cable. They have been doing it this way for quite some time. Of course this doesn't work with Fiber..

    much of the beaches in Dubai are artificial. More in the sense that they have dredgers which constantly infuse new sand on the beaches to stop beach erosion. My main concern with Dubai desire to be the playground of the rich and famous is what they plan to do when terrorist realize there are infidels partying in their neck of the woods.

    I've never heard Dubai speak of how they plan to handle potential hostility from extremists. It wont be long before what happened in India finds its way to Dubai

    One thing I have learned is never under estimate the Chinese, this is a country that has had a incredible GDP since the days of the silk road. One could have said the same about IBM and the computer. we all know how that went. It's not hard to reverse engineer and improve upon an existing design. The only hard part is consumer confidence and brand recognition. US Automaker have done such a good job of killing consumer confidence that most Americans no longer care where it's made cept the fact of the economy

    sarcasm is cultural.... I grew up in Jamaica, after moving to the US I had a very hard time understanding sarcasm which is very common here. In my experience growing up in Jamaica sarcasm wasn't common at all.

    Always enjoyed programming teh old TI-85 calculators. Not sure if yrou still required to use them in school, it allows simple graphical stuff, plus it is mobile which woudl appeal to a kid.

    many places require a contractors license or business license but it's a matter of corruption and greed. Someone walks up to you with salvaged copper and claims they pulled it from a ware house on there property what will you do. Plus it's not hard to melt the copper down and sell it in block form.
