iAd makes ads easy, prettier, "less" intrusive. All justifications for a developer to stick them in, even if it's a paid app.

Hmm, I was under the impression that you would "enjoy" full screen adds with this software, and the ability to be taken directly to the product web page inside the application. Definitively not "less intrusive" in my book.

Maybe they couldn't. But its even more strange because spotify is in direct competition to itunes. You can buy songs in DRM free mp3 or just have the regular subscription and listen to whatever you want (even offline on the phone) without having to buy individual songs :)

You can install unsigned applications on Android as well.
But to install a rootkit (as described in TFA), first you need to find a telephone that is rooted and has a custom rom that has a custom kernel that enabled the loading of kernel modules. Then you need to get the user to actually install the trojan and click "yes" to the "do you want this to run as root". A person with a phone in that configuration is unlikely to click yes for a game or something like that anyway.

iPhone's is not perfect either, but at least it WORKS with multiple accounts properly and has an ability to move messages from folder to folder, among other things, and does not have a huge stupid "DELETE" button in the middle of the screen that deletes messages without confirmation, with no way to undelete it.

I think you must have been dreaming about this or something, because none of this is on my phone. I have a pop and imap account running, an exchange account and i can easily choose which account i am using. The delete button in on the options next to the move button and i get a confirmation dialog (and i can undelete it by moving it from the trash folder).

Apple is brilliant at honing user interfaces.

I have to disagree here. OS X lacks any kind of consistent UI and HIG. Or maybe they do have one but every single app seems to have its own interface. And sadly, it is the applications that come with OS X that are the worst offenders. They also seem very poor at placing "suicide" buttons like delete far away from the regular use buttons.
