Slashdot's main DB has over four months of uptime at this point. Livejournal serves 18 million dynamic pages a day from MySQL. Its very possible to run major sites with MySQL.
Same with MicroSoft. I know from teaching at the University of Washington that the adult students who are coming in on the Windows side are using MySQL on that platform. Its easy to install and obviously a lot cheaper then install SQL server. MS has a long term problem with MySQL on their platform and I am sure that they realize this.
I think that most people would have just used the process based support and not bothered with threads till they need it. Adoption rate would have been a lot faster.
There is now a mod_layout port to Apache 2.0, the thing is I have yet to get any feedback from people using it. So, I continue to put effort into the 1.3 version not the 2.0 version.
Untill mod_perl is ported I won't be actually using it myself.
PHP, mod_perl, any of the Java servlet modules. These are are third-party (basically the server doesn't ship with them even if they are other ASF projects). Anyone running anything other then a flat HTML site needs at least one of these or something similar.
I saw one of these at Linux World. I own a 5500 and like it (it works for me, not sure about for others, but then this was for me). The 3000 would remove all of the reasons why I like mine. No CF means no wireless and I love the keyboard. The keyboard makes mine very useful for me. This looks like a step backwards to me.
But how seriously did Hubbard take it? It was a bet between him and Heinlein and he won (CAW never did have that many members).

How difficult did you find it to setup and run? Did you try multiple probes?
From reading up on the site you mentioned, it looks like they solved the problem using the serial port, while the guy this article is written about used the parrelel port (which gave him the ability to do many probes at once).
Perhaps you just load up your software on a populor website and wait for bug reports? You know if your audience is addicted enough to the site this just might work.
Can Slashdot use Apache 2.0 as the web server for images? Sure, no problem. Could we run the core of Slashdot on it? No. The problem is that Apache by itself is pretty much worthless in today's web environment by itself. You need other modules like mod_perl, PHP, and such to really make any use of it. Till they are stable and are in production form Apache 2.0 is pretty much useless from my perspective. Perspective is completly needs related and should not be considered a sweeping statement about said product nor should it be seen as an endorsement nor as a warning. Supply your own batteries to said opinion and do not feed after midnight.
I like livejournal a lot. Their big problem is that everything in the site is generated from the database. If more of their pages were pushed out as static pages then their database loads would probably become a lot more reasonable. I think with time they will work out the kinks.
I have not updated that list in sometime. It is probably less then a third of the sites that I have posted and quite a few of them that are on the list are dead.
I suspect if you grab TVguides copyrighted information that they will go after you:)
You could probably resell the data though.
I don't get it everyday anymore. I have already seen all of the original series and what FX is playing now is editted down versions of the original (they are cut to add more comercials).
Right, and they are in a perfect position to sell you a subscription to their service. They could easily make a nice XML interface to their data that you would never have to screw around with to make sure you got the right data.
Think about your mother sitting at home though. Is she going to do this? How upset will she be when they change their HTML and the script fails and she misses her favorite program?
The data is the value.
Put it this way, I don't want to miss my weekly Buffy fix.

Doesn't the latest ROM updates break this feature though?

Hardly....

What sort of doll are we talking about?

This is just a test

You are so totally offbase. Pudge is mac bigot, the fellow maitains Mac Perl. :)
Hell, he develops Slash on a Mac

Actually pudge is a real Mac bigot :)
The last time I checked the computer sitting next to my Linux box is a G4 with OSX. Of course, I am a UNIX bigot, not a Linux bigot.
Did you try bsd.slashdot.org?

Sure, you can build a custom PVR system, but where are you going to get the data from to run it?
My Tivo's value is in the service, not in the device.
Random kernel crashes, forgets about disks... just about every kind of error that I have seen.
Seeing how I am the guy who maintains the databases I would assume my word is enough :)
Probaby could have a couple of sysadmins come in and offer their opinion since they have to stay up too.
