Essentially, as I understand it, with longitudinal recording the poles of the bits are pointed flat on the surface. Imagine a bar magnet. Put the long flat end of the bar on the platter. That's longitudinal recording.
With perpendicular recording the bar magnet would be standing on it's end.
Some people just like to be first in line. Yesterday, I saw a news clip on TV (I think it was NBC Nightly News) that was on this guy who tries to be first in line at different events even if he has no idea who he is standing in line for. He's there to catch a little of the media limelight.

That and "dual processors" and "cd burning capabilities" why shouldnt we the owners be let in at some point.
I think you've been reading too many rumor sites. The "dual processors" in an iPod is a myth. Dunno where you got the "cd burning capabilities" idea from.

You're talking about multilayer recording, not perpendicular recording. Multilayer recording is used in magneto-optical stuff.
