Proving that the port can be done isn't the issue. It's the economics. Anything can be ported to Linux, it's the ROI that matters. And right now, the Linux gaming market is way too small. It's smaller than the Mac gaming market and companies are banging on the door to port to the Mac.
I noticed on all recent ODSL press releases, it says:
About the Open Source Development Lab
OSDL - home to Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux -...
For some reason I find this funny. Do they have Linus stuffed in some rack unit there? Maybe Finland should change it's name to "Finland - Linus Torvalds was born here".
Delay is far better as long as the delay isn't too long (see Duke Nukem). If you delay the game, but then come out with a smash hit, nobody will remember that it was delayed a few months. However, if you publish too soon and get slammed in the reviews for not working, you're toast and will never make up the good will. You don't see many "Game v1.1" reviews out there.
If I recall correctly that was about one intelligence officer who brought his own powerbook, and showed it off.
If the standard equipment were toughbooks, as noted here by someone, I know who is smiling after even a small sandstorm.
And why would one want to process 'massive satellite images' on a laptop? Even a mobile hq has shelters with workstations. It's not like these images make it to the front-line.
I'm sure the PowerBook survived just fine for the very reason that you said... shelters with workstations. The guy is an intelligence officer. He's mostly likely behind the lines in some air conditioned/filtered shelter (gotta protect all that communications equipment, you know) where the PowerBook will be just fine in any sandstorm.
I've seen something similar on TV. One of those cop shows had video tape of a woman dressed as an ATM security company security guard take an ATM out of a convience store. Said that the machine needed "maintenance". She chatted away with the store owner and customers as her accomplice posing as a maintenance person hauled the ATM out the door.
The original poster was comparing AMD processors, but okay... Itanium 2 is faster at specFP. However, where can you get a dual-processor 1.5Ghz Itanium 2 unit for $3000?
People covering their short positions may also be buying in addition to day traders like somebody mentioned. There's always somebody who buys some stock, even soon to be bankrupt companies.
Unfortunately, the damage is probably already done. Months from now when HL2 is released, somebody will probably pop up with "I'm not going to buy that because it has Product Activation. I read it on/."
Ripping the processors out? To do what with them? You can't just stuff them into any old motherboard.
OS X is already competitive with Windows.
How did this get moderated Insightful/Interesting? The moderators are nuts. I hope the meta-moderators correct this. This is a Troll/Flamebait all the way.
Labeling SuSE as evil because of it's association with UnitedLinux is as wrong as labeling TrollTech as evil because it's association with Canopy Group.
Yeah, of course old non-adware versions of the divX codec will still be available for a while, but the point is that there won't be any new non-adware versions except the ones you have to buy.
I don't see any statement that supports that. Where did you get this information from?
True. I was reading too fast and made the conclusion that the parent poster was saying that Graeme's arrival at Ensemble would mean Ensemble's games would be ported to the Mac. I was pointing out that Ensemble's already do exist.
Almost all of Rutan's designs look different than "normal" planes. Check the Projects gallery and you'll see that WK and SS1 has the same design features as many of his other designs.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
It's the single-track purchasing that makes iTMS enticing.
They probably are also auditing the entire codebase to make sure no code was inserted. Can you say Trojan Horse?

Initial impressions make all the difference.

#15 - Dungeon Siege
3.23.58 was just released.
You have that backwards. Vivendi will soon be part of the NBC empire. Vivendi is selling out to NBC.
Usually when a new version of MAME is released (happened just a couple of days ago), somebody posts every ROM that MAME is able to play.

The PowerPC 970 is based on the Power4. You need to check your facts. (Hint: visit the IBM website)

You don't need to imagine. The price has already been fixed by the Russians for $20 million.

emacs is part of the base BSD layer, I believe. It's definately not part of the Developer's Tools install.
You also realize that IBM is a partner with UnitedLinux?

The jump is due to the analyst report, not Apple shipping G5s. You need to read the article you sited.
Apple has won quite a few awards for their design of boxes alone. It's those small attentions to detail that make their boxes stand out.

Age of Mythology is being ported to the Mac by Westlake Interactive. MacSoft already released AOEII way back when and is publishing Age of Mythology, too.
